Tyler was there because he was the obsessed type that sought to explain away every minute detail of the chef’s craft leaving no mystery or wonder. . Taking away the sheer innocent enjoyment of it. Chef said it himself. “You are the reason the mystery has been drained from our art.”

Yes, and Tyler is also the kind of "fan", that knows everything about the art theoretically. Has all the tools and toys and whatever, but probably has not used any single one of them ever in his life.
It's like the people who have all the most expensive professional tools in their shed, know all about different techniques, but could not hammer a nail into a wall if their life depended on it. Literally. Or "artists" who have a huge collection of brushes and paint and all the best canvases, who can talk without end about color theory and whatnot, but have never actually done a single stroke.

The way his face subtly lights up at "a cheeseburger." Chef found his passion again; and so, she lives.
I love this movie, so hard. A brilliantly dark statement on the pretense of fine dining, both of the restaurant and its patrons.

    • @Tomas_France_
      @Tomas_France_ Год назад

Not really about fine dining. It’s message is clear. Fienne’s character was simple, wanted the fame, yet saw how unfulfilled he was. You have Tyler, a wannabe (American), stupid, thinks he knows best, yet can’t do anything. He reflects the morons that post on instant gram, and the Chef saw he knew nothing. Then you have the older couple. They ate there numerous times, yet couldn’t even remember the ingredients. Chef saw they dined there for the experience, so yes, that one was fine dining. The actors. They were just playing a role for his upcoming show. Then the Wall Street people. They were the stereotypical rich, and owned Chef’s restaurant, so they expected to be treated as gods. The reviewer was just a look back at how she destroyed small business in terms of finer dining, so again, there it is. The Chef was just a simple cook who lost his joy cooking for people who don’t care about their food. Pretty bland movie. ATJ and Fiennes saved it from being complete garbage

Actually, I think she dies at the end. If you listened to Elsa explain what happens to the beef at the slaughter house, she said that the beef will kill you if you don't eat it before it's expiration date and that it's basically now. Margot takes her second bite after the restaurant blows up. As she wipes her mouth with the menu, she looks at it after and most likely noticed that there is no beef on the menu. You can see the realization in her eyes that she's going to die as the music starts to swell, she takes another "screw it" bite and then the movie cuts off. That's also why Chef "let her go" letting her think that she"won". He said that "everyone", including her, is dying in the end. It was her choice to die with the "givers" or the "takers". She was just the last 😂😂😂

I also went into this movie expecting the secret ingredient to be people. It just felt obvious that everyone would be killed and served up. Or people would be getting picked off one after the other until only one was left. I'm glad it didn't go that route. This movie was a lot more subtle than I expected, but I think it helped make it stand out. This is most definitely a weird movie, but something about the tone of it is just so interesting. I've seen it a few times and I still think it's sort of like the cheeseburger at the end of the movie. A new bar and grill opened in my small town about 4 or 5 years ago. For a limited time as part of their opening they offered a burger with a homemade aioli. That might have been the best burger I've ever had, and made me a customer for life, I had to go home that day and look up what aioli is (it's a garlic mayonnaise). My go-to order now is their spicy burger, which has a spicy sauce, pickles and jalapenos.
As others have pointed out, the pictures in Chef's house are a good clue, the one time he's actually smiling. "I'm good at making kickass burgers, I like making kickass burgers, and I enjoy serving said burgers to people who enjoy kickass burgers, and are grateful." No elitism, no song and dance, no pretentiousness.

A couple notes. Leguizano based his character on Steven Seagal. Also, i think the Chef included the Actor because he had abandoned his art to do the film just for the money.
It was Anya's idea that her back be to the kitchen forcing her to turn around. She said it was worth the neck pain.
All the cast were on set every day so they would mime and ad lib in the background for other people's scenes.
In the end, Erin provided an experience of a good customer for the Chef.
There is also a theory that Erin might not have gotten away as the beef in the burgers coukd be a day old as Elsa described at the beginning.

The term 'amuse bouche' is French for mouth amuser. These are complementary little bites that chefs send to diners at the start of their dining experience and can range from just one dish to as many as six or seven. They are different to Canapés and other hors d'oeuvres in that they are not ordered from a menu but are served free and according to the chef's selection alone.

Supposedly this is the recipe for the Double Cheeseburger from the movie
    2 lbs. 80/20 ground beef
    2 tsp. kosher salt, divided
    1 tsp. black pepper, divided
1 small (4 oz.) yellow onion, thinly sliced (about 1 cup)
    8 American cheese slices
4 sesame seed hamburger buns, toasted
    Dill pickle chips and ketchup
    1. Divide and roll ground beef evenly into 8 (4-ounce) meatballs. Do not overwork.
    2. Heat a large cast-iron skillet over medium high. Place meatballs, 2 at a time, in hot skillet. Place 1 square of parchment paper over each meatball. Using a large spatula, flatten each ball into a 5-inch round patty. Remove and discard parchment.
    3. Sprinkle top of each patty with ⅛ teaspoon of the salt and a pinch of the pepper. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of the sliced onions on each patty. Cook until bottoms are crisp and deep brown, 1½ to 2 minutes. Flip patties; sprinkle each with ⅛ teaspoon salt and a pinch of pepper, and top with 1 slice of cheese. Cook until bottoms are deep brown and cheese is melted, 1½ to 2 minutes. Repeat with remaining meatballs, salt, pepper, onions and cheese.
    4. Put pickle chips on bottom of each bun, top with 2 patties, and cover burgers with top bun halves. Serve with ketchup and/or your desired toppings and sauces.
    Serves: 4
    Active time: 20 minutes
    Total time: 20 minutes

I've only seen the movie once, but I've watched a few reactions and this is the first time I noticed that Richard switches seats when he sees Margot enter so that he's not sitting facing her direction...SUPER guilty conscience right there
I had NO idea what to expect going in to this movie, I just knew that Ralph Fiennes was in it and it was billed as "horror comedy", and it ended up being one of my favourite dark comedies in a long time

This movie was nothing what I expected and I think that is why there are a lot of haters on it. It was advertised as more of a campy almost slasher type movie (I was really surprised it didn't go cannibal) when it is more of a concept piece about food as art, obsession, and toxic people that ruin good things. In my opinion, it is a fantastically weird and great movie.

The film follows a foodie and his date traveling to a remote island to eat at an exclusive restaurant where the chef has prepared a lavish menu but reveals shocking surprises throughout the menu.
