40:04 Someone commented on this scene that she's rediscovering the art of her own craft. Prostitution (of any name) isn't always just sex or inflating someone's ego, it's about actually making the customer feel good about themselves, playing the role you know they want without them asking for it. She tried flattering him and it didn't work, so instead she challenged him. She didn't just blindly agree with everything he said, she took what she know about him and what he'd said and guided him back to his love of cooking by calling him out and giving him the challenge she knew he'd respond to.

I feel like The Menu is a movie, not just about the service industry and servers vs. customers, but about art in general, and the artists' relationship with the consumers. How an artist can put their heart and soul into what they create, and all just in the service of people who, in one form or another, fail to appreciate it. And also how a consumer can obsess with art, with critiquing it, with idolizing it, with using it for status, and it doesn't actually enrich them in any real way. A lot of rich people are like that, they demand and take the best just for the sake of having it, and nothing else. That's why Margot, the everyman, gets to survive. Because she's the only one who still remembers that at the end of the day, food is food. And as long as it tastes good and fills you up, that's all that matters. It's a very densely themed movie, is what I'm saying. There's a lot of ways to interpret it, this is just mine. It's good, I like it a lot.

I wasn't 100% convinced it was sexual between the older guy and Erin, though that was most likely. I wondered if she was an escort providing all social services, including non-sexual ones, like pretending to be his daughter who had passed away - but in an indulgent grief process, rather than an incestuous one.

My boyfriend has some close friends that live up in the woods in this fabulous house and I’m always invited over for dinner and wine. Whenever I go over, the way they talk about the food and wine is literally like the way some of the guests and the chef talk about food in this film. It comes off overly pretentious and literally takes the joy away from eating and drinking. I really appreciated this film poking fun at the elitism of fine dining. I felt so seen as Margot not giving a single fuck hahaha.
The reason why Chef wanted to kill everyone in the restaurant, is because they represented everything he hated about himself. The reason why he didn't kill Margo, is because she gave him the only happiness he ever had in his life. Just working at a fast food restaurant, making cheeseburgers.
i watched The Menu for the 1st time a couple days ago and have been obsessed with it since then. It reminds me that people who are idolized are also struggling to maintain. If someone/society continues to shit on you, no matter how great you are/ or seem to be you'll break eventually. It brought back the cast of despicable people who deserve to die instead of just random victims. Thank you for this review, Alanda
this movie was so good it was one of my favorites from last year. "you'll eat less than you desire and more than you deserve" made me SCREAM it was iconic
@@MidnightBard Don't worry, Jewish law says that all restrictions may be broken in life or death situations. I could definitely have a cheeseburger if it would save my life.
I can’t explain how satisfying it was to see Tyler get what he deserved. - also was the theme getting what you deserve or coming to terms with what you deserve?
I am glad he got humiliated before he died. Also what kind of weirdo would come to something where you are told everybody is going to die? I only wish he'd suffered more but IF you believe in any of the major religions, since he committed suicide he is worse off than the people who got murdered. Still I think burning is a much worse death than hanging so I thought he got off lite.
@@jacquelinecallejas1390 Well if he got burnt then he'll be happy to die at the hands of his idol just after getting the experience of arriving at the restaurant he always wanted to while savouring the courses prepared by him. He went there knowing he would die, he would've been the happiest person in that room. Getting humiliated by the very person he looked upto to the point he had to take his own life due to the sheer embarrassment was truly satisfying.
When I saw the poster, I thought it was a comedy drama film about a food critic and his girlfriend try to oust a world class Chef for being a fraud. Then I learned it's a dark comedy horror film. I was even surprised to learn it got snubbed at this year's Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, etc.
I know, right?! Not a single nomination in any category! You'd think it'd at least get nominated for Best Cinematography or Best Production Design for the food. I mean, _Everything Everywhere All at Once_ is gonna win Best Picture for sure, but I still think _The Menu_ deserved a nod.
All that tells me is the people in control of nominations fits the description of the greedy takers who needed to be s'mored. Clearly, they were butt hurt about it.
I loved this so much I made my mom watch it with me the next day. Thank you for laughing, so many people don't get dark comedy. "It's a tortilla." I rewound that part like 5x bc I was laughing so hard! Elsa was my fave.
Yess as much as this movie is trying to comment on elitism and how everyone’s a critic nowadays, it’s also a movie that doesn’t take itself so seriously. Everyone in the movie is a caricature of real people except for Margot/Erin and it’s hilarious!

Great recommendation! The hand that rocks the cradle was a movie I watched over and over as a kid. My mom loved that movie. I would be so happy if you watch it with us, Alanda!
@@ciarau12 Right! Such a good movie. I might watch it now haha let's hope Alanda sees these comments. If she hasn't seen it already, I think she would love it!
This move was giving me so many reference with the "We don't burn anything unless by design" Hannibal "This is my design" saying and the Midsummer vibe at the end, and the whole restaurant in an isolated place gave me American Horror Story Apocalypse season.
Alanda's one liners were on point! Triangle of Sadness (2022, Ruben Östlund, 3 Oscar noms) and Infinity Pool (2023, Brandon Cronenberg, Mia Goth, Alex Skarsgard) are also worth checking out.
The Cheeseburger scene was so intense for the cast because it's actually the first time that someone actually ate real food and not inedible prop food. John Leguizamo ended up ordering burgers and fries for the cast. And I'm not going to lie: I ended up having a huge cheeseburger craving that I had to go to the store and get everything I needed to fix my own, even cooking the onions like he did. And it was So. GOOD.
"Where did you go to school?' "Brown..." "Student loans?" "No." "I'm sorry, you're dying." I laughed so damn hard! The actress for Margot/Erin was supposed to cry when she found out Tyler brought her to die, but she refused to the director and said "No, I'd get mad." and physically attacks instead. "My eyes were bigger than my stomach." I laughed a bit at that, as her eyes are quite large. XD THANK you. A bunch of other reactors don't understand why she is spared, because she lets Slowik rediscover his love of cooking. You're sharp! I really loved this movie. Was worried it would be a cannibal film or something, but was so much better than I thought.

You had me cracking up every which way for like 20 minutes straight. This movie was such a great time when I watched. Glad I got to see your reaction. Can't wait to see what you watch next!
I think this film is all about satisfaction and appreciation. The reason Aaron got to live is because she was grateful and satisfied with the Burger that chef cooked for her. For all the other guests emphasize the theme of greed and were unappreciative. They all in their own little ways cheated people, were greedy, or used their privilege recklessly.
This was one of my favorite movies over the past 5 years at least. After watching it I went and made the best cheeseburger of my life. I've watched this movie about 5 or 6 times and I watched almost every youtube reactor watch it. I REALLY enjoyed this movie.

I enjoyed seeing how quickly Alanda picked up on the deathly cues coming for our diners, and then shifting to the driving plot question for the rest of the film: Can Margot somehow escape? I couldn't help but notice another recent film swimming in the same waters with The Menu. "Knives Out: Glass Onion" shares many tenuous, but curious connections here. Both films summon their participants together for uniquely personal reasons by a commandeering, murderous zealot with an inflated sense of purpose -- and most importantly, living one big lie at the plot's center. Also both protagonists are women who "shouldn't be there" and must solve their own murders(potential) before the megalomaniac completes his plan. I really enjoyed how both of these films skirted the "wrong guy in the wrong place" trope and just allowed Margot (and Janelle Monae's Helen) to carefully reveal themselves so each could walk away with her integrity intact. The sets employed preposterous prop designs and on-the-nose theatrics to skewer attendees while dazzling our eyes and palette. Now, I did use "tenuous" to describe the films' parallels, so obviously the stakes rise to gory, bloody levels in The Menu as it flirts with horror; nonetheless, a big fireball engulfs all the plot machinery, pomposity, pretension and deceit of both films -- leaving viewers with closeups of both leading ladies, embattled and tired but still managing a cryptic smile to end the movie.
I think the point of the girl that went to Brown without needing any loans is referring back to the fact that she was stealing money from her boss even though she clearly came from a very wealthy family. I don't think it's just about being rich, but that she was greedy when she probably had enough money and then some. And even if they had expanded on her story and maybe she was cut off from the family money or something, but again, if that was some unwritten backstory she still chose to steal and lie rather than make up with her family. Idk. Either way she was a thief and a liar. Maybe more innocent than some of the others, but not innocent by any means.
I absolutely love your videos!! And how you always switch up your hairstyles. ❣️ I’m currently trying to do more natural styles and you have made it so much easier to start this journey. 💕💕
This was such an enjoyable experience in theaters. I've rewatched it several times and have enjoyed the courses over and over again. I saw this movie in the theater and wasn't really knowing what to expect. I HAD seen previews for it. But they mostly played them before movies in the theater and not on television.
As a fan of cheeseburgers, I’m glad it saved the day 😂
You want to hear something sad? I'm not allowed to eat cheeseburgers. I only eat kosher, and mixing meat and cheese is a big no-no. 😟
@@ZukoHalliwell maybe you could ask for a grilled cheese sandwich and still live 😢
@@MidnightBard Oh, I love grilled cheese sandwiches! 🤤
@@MidnightBard Don't worry, Jewish law says that all restrictions may be broken in life or death situations. I could definitely have a cheeseburger if it would save my life.
@@ZukoHalliwell I feel so bad for you! But I admire your dedication to your faith friend.
I can’t explain how satisfying it was to see Tyler get what he deserved.
- also was the theme getting what you deserve or coming to terms with what you deserve?
I wanted him to get something so much worse lol but to him it probably was the worst possible thing that could've happened
Both
I am glad he got humiliated before he died.
Yes she is the best reactor as she gets that it is a comedy, and fun as hell
Yess as much as this movie is trying to comment on elitism and how everyone’s a critic nowadays, it’s also a movie that doesn’t take itself so seriously. Everyone in the movie is a caricature of real people except for Margot/Erin and it’s hilarious!
This just made my day. Lost my job last week and have a new one and going to orientation today!. God is good!. This just made my day even better. Luv ya girl!.
Good luck with your new gig!
So excited to watch this! I totally recommend watching the Hand That Rocks the Cradle! It's a fun 90s thriller and I think you'd love it Alanda! Have a great week!
Great recommendation! The hand that rocks the cradle was a movie I watched over and over as a kid. My mom loved that movie. I would be so happy if you watch it with us, Alanda!
@@DesireandLoss92 me too!! I lived in genuine fear that the nanny would come and seduce my dad 🤣 it's such a good movie!!
@@ciarau12 Right! Such a good movie. I might watch it now haha let's hope Alanda sees these comments. If she hasn't seen it already, I think she would love it!
oh yeah that movie is scary!
Yes I would also recommend The Hand that rocks the Cradle!
This move was giving me so many reference with the "We don't burn anything unless by design" Hannibal "This is my design" saying and the Midsummer vibe at the end, and the whole restaurant in an isolated place gave me American Horror Story Apocalypse season.
The squeal I let out when I saw you uploaded 😆 your reactions are everything and this movie is so good!
This is one of my favorites from 2022. Anya served in this role! So happy you did a reaction to it.
It was an absolute JOY watching you react to this one. You’re a blast!!
"Is he looking at me?"
Nicolas Hoult being awestruck by prestigious men looking in his direction is always funny to me.
Mad Max: Fury Road for more 😉
The VVitch references killed me everytime 🤣🤣🤣🤣👏🏽❤️
The Queen has delivered! And Alanda is low-key giving Dominique Deveraux with that hair! We love to see it
Alanda's one liners were on point!
GOOD.
The chicken coop scene just about killed me, I was laughing so hard.
"Where did you go to school?'
"Brown..."
"Student loans?"
"No."
"I'm sorry, you're dying." I laughed so damn hard!
The actress for Margot/Erin was supposed to cry when she found out Tyler brought her to die, but she refused to the director and said "No, I'd get mad." and physically attacks instead.
"My eyes were bigger than my stomach." I laughed a bit at that, as her eyes are quite large. XD
THANK you. A bunch of other reactors don't understand why she is spared, because she lets Slowik rediscover his love of cooking. You're sharp!
I really loved this movie. Was worried it would be a cannibal film or something, but was so much better than I thought.
Girl your reaction was amazing! The first half of your reaction was rather calming, and then the second half happened and the quips were unleashed.
Hong Chau is the star of every movie she’s in ✨
Agree completely!
Ooh girl the way I jumped when I saw the notification lol
This was one of my favorite movies over the past 5 years at least. After watching it I went and made the best cheeseburger of my life. I've watched this movie about 5 or 6 times and I watched almost every youtube reactor watch it. I REALLY enjoyed this movie.
Im back a year later watching this again. Gosh I love this movie.
I'm back again smh
Saw this in theaters ! Gurl same Elsa was my favorite character 😂😂 I could not stop laughing at everything she did. She was the star for me in this film .✨️⭐️🌟
It's our bih @Alanda Parker! First I want to say your are a true beauty, & the hair is giving final girl in the film "Ready Or Not" in the bloody torn wedding dress! I can't wait to see your reaction on this one, because this is arguably movie of the year! Okay have a great, & productive day, I'll see you in the next one, but before I go I have a question: Can you do stream when you drop the videos so we can chat with you live, because I can go on record saying we all love you, & want to talk to you even more about the film(s) for that hour.
The fact that you wanted a cheeseburger after watching the movie... everyone I've talked to said the same thing lol
Ooh the hair is giving!! But the menu had me cackling and in suspense. So good! Chef is the BEST anti-hero ever 😂
I've watched a lot of reactions to this movie,
I had so much fun watching this with you.
I think it's because almost everything you said
was my inner commentary when I watched the
movie for the 1st time 😂😂
Thanks for sharing your reaction.
On a side note, yes Sis your hair is giving all
of the things! 🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️
Thank you love 🥰
Hi Alanda, just want to say thank you for your videos! They mean a lot to me, your voice is very nice and calming and together with your room ambience it gives a very cozy feeling :) Watching your videos is always relaxing for me (even though the theme of the movies is the opposite lol, I could never watch these by myself). I've been having a couple of rough months and your videos are part of the few things that manage to keep me from breaking down. I'm so happy I found your channel :)
I love your reactions but I don't watch a lot of horror so I feel like i can't watch many of your videos. However I saw The Menu last night and loved it, probably the funniest film i've seen in years. So pleased I could laugh along with you on this one!
I got so excited when i saw the notification
I just want to thank you for being you
You're Amazing!!!
I have have severe depression etc and have no friends because of it so your videos make me feel like im watching with a friend
Thank you love
oh im so excited to see ur reaction!! i literally feel such a comfort feeling whenever watching alanda :c its like having a warming friend meeting and just spending a sweet time together, tysm for being such an angel, alanda ♡♡
So excited for this reaction. Now I get to kick back and relax after a long day of work to one of my favorite channels.
The hair is giving!!!!
She’s an icon and she is the moment! 💅🏻🥰❤️
Watching the smile slowly leave your face as he described what artistry is was so devastating lol
I absolutely love your videos!! And how you always switch up your hairstyles. ❣️ I’m currently trying to do more natural styles and you have made it so much easier to start this journey. 💕💕
Love your hair girl looking good and shining as always. So happy you did a reaction to this such a great crazy ass movie I'm watching now ✌️💜
Alanda's laughter is infectious. I love every second of it💕💕
Tysm for covering this one! As soon as I got the notification I LITERALLY dropped what I was doing to press play 😂
the HAIR is everything !! love u rocking ur natural 😌💕
Alanda’s videos lift the spirit so much thank god for her!!! ❤
This was such an enjoyable experience in theaters. I've rewatched it several times and have enjoyed the courses over and over again.
There's no way in hell I could have been one of the chefs in the kitchen. I would have been busting out laughing trying to keep a serious face while yelling we love you chef and so on
Alanda quote of the day: "I'm longing for a taco and regretting coming to this bitch"
Woohoo! This movie was a surprisingly favorite film of the year. I'm so happy to see your always-entertaining reaction!
I can't get over your glorious locks! OMG! I'm envious. lol. I am so happy to see you react to this movie. It was insanity, but I loved it.
I swear, my day is instantly brighter the moment I see that hair and smile on my screen and feel her radiant energy. I'd bet any amount of money that NOBODY can be in anything BUT a wonderful mood while watching an Alanda reaction.
not alanda realizing margot's plot twist at the beginning of te movie lol i love your brain, mine doesn't work as fast
I can’t tell you how many times I watched The Menu and it gets better and better every time. Masterpiece 🙌🏾
The first tim i watched the menu, i felt anxiety, tensions and did laugh a little a bit.
With Allada's reaction, i laught so much more than i thought, i didn't know the meny was pure comedy gold lol.
I saw this movie in the theater and wasn't really knowing what to expect. I HAD seen previews for it. But they mostly played them before movies in the theater and not on television. I was expecting it to be about cannibalism from the previews! Lol! And I sat and watched it and I wasn't quite sure what I had watched but I sure had enjoyed it! And I think Elsa was my favorite character. When you said "Elsa, let it go" , I died laughing! Also, when the credits rolled in the theater, I was very surprised to see that Will Ferrell was one of the producers of this movie!
I was genuinely impressed that they didn't go the easy route and make this movie about cannibalism.
I've been anticipating you doing this review!!! 💗💗💗💗💗I love seeing your reviews, we seem to have the same taste and responses to movies. Thank you!!!
I’ve been waiting for this one!!!!! I still refuse to watch the movie myself, but I’ll watch the reactions. 😂
One of my favorite movies of 2022 👌.
I would love to see your reactions to other dark comedies like Fargo, The Hangover, American Psycho, Pulp Fiction, Dr Strangelove, Burn After Reading, Me And Myself And Irene and recent one Cocaine Bear 🐻.
Great reaction Alanda and take care and stay safe 👍.
Love this movie, was SO hoping Id see it on this channel and girl you never disappoint.
Love this movie to death. I thought it was interesting that you concluded that that one couple’s daughter offed herself. I didn’t think that was the case but yeah that husband was a certified CREEP.
This is the first video where I wasn't paying as much attention to the commentary as usual because how could I with that hair on screen?!?!?! The hair is giving everything it was born to give 😍😍😍😍😍!!!
Love how much laughter this movie brought you. It’s a wonderful gem of a horror/comedy/satire. Your vids always brighten my day ❤️
As soon as I saw you had watched this movie I had to watch you. I couldn't wait to see your reaction to the fake gun lighting the candle nor how Margot found her freedom in the end. Great as always.
41:42 Plus the woman who commented that she looked a bit like her daughter (as we later gathered from what Margot said) gave her a nod like she was telling her to go.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought The Mess was going to be Jeremy shitting on those sheets on the ground
Oh my god this HAIR. I love your channel so much. You're SUCH A GOOD reactor and so thoughtful and REAL. I've unfollowed so many reactors bc you're so much better I can't stand them anymore
I've been waiting for you to watch this! I love your commentaries and this movie is so good!!
I loved this movie! So happy you got to it sooner than later, loved the reaction!
"Yo can I work in the kitchen with Alanda?! I've binged chopped, this ain't got shit on a mystery basket"
"Please chef just avada kedavra me damn"
I'm so glad you finally watched this!! I loved it and didn't expect it to be a satire when I went to see it in theaters, but was pleasantly surprised!
My poor little brain is so saturated by all the horror movies I've seen over the years that i find most quite boring. And the so called elevated horror puts me to sleep BUT since discovering your reactions, Alanda, as well as Zzavid's, I'm reinvigorated 😁 i love your reactions; they're hilarious. You bring back much needed mirth into my life. Don't forget to check out 30 Days of Night and The Unborn. You kinda promised 😁 and when are you going to rewatch Aliens with us? 🙏 and let's not forget Terminator Judgement Day 🙏 i better stop here or you'll get an endless list🤭 oh wait, there's the comedy: Noises Off
Loooove your reactions always 🥳🥳🥳
Noises Off! Hilarious movie.
It is always such a joy watching videos with you. I hope this new year is treating you well!!
I swear if I went to a movie with you, I'd be laughing the entire time. You are hilarious, and i love your hair too.
35:54 “I'm sorry you had to VA-VITCH, but it was her or you!" I can't
"sorry you had to VVitch" lol I'm dead asf 💀
