interesting you mention divergent in vid early on cause its also the sign and fire that started the decline of YA book to movies. the last book was changed to be direct to video only which all the main actors left cause if do those thjen thats instant death of their career on big screen (either way most werent seen again) and that caused chain reaction. other producers decided to cut back or leave from ya films to i think mortal engines was the last nail on the coffin with also covid lockdown coming up at the time.

12:20 "reminds me of squid game" lol with kids you got your gonna regonize the battle royale genre almost 24/7 if they play it and/or know of it.
the first mainstream battle royale game was literally the name itself battle royale from japan which was a manga then got a live action adaptation in early 2000s. basic premise is troublemaker kids taken to island to kill each other and survivor walks free and ppl watch it as entertainment. so side reminder: remember ro parents that read this, fortnite and hunger games roots is about kids encouraged to become killers and be celebrities :)
i may get auto deleted for going into this part: i would not be surprised either america, japan or whoever will make a manga/comic, show or movie of taking mass shooter attempters/threatners and even hoaxers in a battle royale situation. let them attempt to kill one another, bonus the hosts with twisted views shove in citizens not viable to society (no skills, not paying taxes, or heck the parents themselves) in there as bonus points to the person if they kill them and get supplies dropped in.
interestingly that will trigger varies ppl, one be the parents but what really triggers them is idea is punishing the parents by forcing them into that ring and get killed by those shooters with one of them is their own child. even further if parent beg saying its not their fault their kid is like that to twist that blade even more. if a book/film like that was made for sure its gonna cause ALOT of drama and talking about it depending on the subject, who it spotlights and how they make those ppl act in it.

So the people rebelling after Rues death (apart that it was not in the books) was not so much about Rue dying (like you said happens every year), it’s that Katniss showed empathy for her. Panem works by keeping the districts divided, cutting communications between them and in the games, having them as enemies. So it’s Katniss having respect for Rue that tipped them off.
    I think

Actually, the author Suzanne Collins said she was inspired to write the books when she saw the juxtaposition of people living normal lives on tv/reality shows and then she’d change the channel to see horrors of the war in Iraq. That’s why you see that stark contrast between the suffering of the districts vs the lavish lives of the wealthy in the Capitol. And that’s why the sequels explore the themes of war, propaganda and rebellion.

When Jen asked at the beginning if there will only be one winner, should have just said yes. The Hunger Games is only supposed to have one winner. Kind of opens up the viewer to the idea they can both win when you are supposed to think there's no chance until Seneca changes the rules.

Regarding getting picked, the year you turn 12 you get your name put in once. Second year it's two and so on. In addition you can trade rations for having your name added once per person (a year I believe). That's how Gale had his name in 42 times, 27 times because of his age, and the rest was rations for his family (mentioned in the book but not the movie).

It also becomes a very important moment in leading up to many of the events that happen in the sequels because it’s really the first time that someone in Katniss and Peeta’s position has publicly stood up to the Capital by refusing to play by the Capital’s rules and won.

So at the end with the berries. What Peeta and katniss were doing by threatening suicide by nightlock berry is that they were committing an act of rebellion. They were exploiting the fact that the Games and the government always need a victor and using it against them. It was all on camera in front of all the districts showing everyone that its possible to fight the capitol and win. The fall out of showing that to the citizens of Panem is coming in the sequels.

That was one partial loop hole that was always at the back of my mind, I can't imagine in 74 hunger games that there was always a victor, I mean when two people are killing each other even if one is able to finish off the other they can quite easily be mortally wounded and die anyway in the exchange.

Katniss definitely the epitome of a strong female heroine. Yes she’s got grit and survival skills and she can handle a bow and arrow but what makes her amazing is her heart. Most people especially from the first districts see the hunger games as a mark of honor others like those from district 12 see it as a civic duty you dread. Katniss willingly steps up to save her sister. As the game goes on she not only survives even by killing others it shows she doesn’t enjoy doing it. And Rue Katniss showing compassion and mourning her death shows that as vile as the games are she doesn’t lose herself to it.

The sponsorship idea was a stroke a genius. It creates a situation where any tribute that wants a legitimate chance of surviving, they HAVE to play along during the lead-up to the games. Not only do you have to win in the arena, but you also have to win this weird game of self-promotion/marketing beforehand. It turned what potentially could have been an uninteresting section of the movie, waiting for the games to begin, into some of my favorite stuff in the whole film.

If you take only your bag the others have to secure their own bags first before they start hunting you, so you have a much better chance of getting away.

The whole love triangle thing is much more fleshed out in the books. Katniss and Gale are best friends. He is in love with her and protects her and her sister, but she does not have romantic feelings for him, but considers marrying him for stability. She pretends to love Peeta for the Games, but eventually does come to love him in her way.The author initially planned for Gale to be Katniss's cousin though, and the publishers pushed for the love triangle to appeal to the YA audience. Katniss does not have romantic feelings for either Peeta or Gale. Peeta has a deep crush on Katniss but he really openly confesses his feelings for her just to help create a public image of making Katniss desirable in front of the vain Capitol people coz he understands how to play the common people of the Capitol. Which is why Katniss gets the gifts in the arena, from the sponsors who Haymitch gathers to send help to Katniss. Peeta genuinely did not believe he could make it out of the arena and instead worked out the romance angle with Haymitch to help her. Gale on the other hand is also in love with Katniss but Gale is only seen as a brother by Katniss because they grew up together.

Also, you're correct that Katniss and Peeta aren't killers by nature, so they usually try to do things in an indirect manner, such as blowing up the food and supplies the Career Pack were hording. As for why the Career Pack survived the tracker jackers, I think it's safe to assume that in that huge pile of supplies they secured, there might have been some sort of antivenom or medicine against the tracker jacker venom. We've seen how the medicine in this setting is advanced enough to heal wounds overnight, so it makes perfect sense.

Katniss loves Gale (Liam Hemsworth) but not necessarily in a romantic way. He loves her, which they hint at every time it shows him looking all sad and dejected every time he's watching the games while Katniss and Peeta are having a romantic moment. He's been her best friend forever and helps her take care of her family. He is incredibly important to her. At the end of this you're left wondering if her feelings for Peeta are real, or if it was just fake and she was playing it up for the "show" so they could get sponsors/more gifts.

This is one of the few series where the second one is better than the first. I've read all books and seen all the movies. The first two are fantastic translations with some things I wish they would've included or explained better. The last two are really good as well just not as good as the first two but definitely don't stray away too far. I really really enjoy watching all the series at once and hope you guys keep watching

The story has a lot of influences in greek and roman culture. The 24 children being reminicent of the story of the Minotaur where 24 children were sacrificed to it each year. The capitol, Panem is a reference to the phrase Panem et Circenses or Bread and Circuses. The Romans effectively believed that all you needed to keep a population under control was food and entertainment,

‼️‼️There’s always been a THEORY about if the mutts (beast dogs) are the fallen tributes or not. In the books Katniss recalls how each mutt has the eyes of different tributes, and she recognizes Rue immediately. It seems like they put the mutts (beast dogs) in to not only physically harm them but mentally too. Some people also think that they took the tributes DNA and used it to make the mutts and its why they resemble the tributes/humans so much and have their eyes. But it’s never rlly been confirmed it’s just been speculation.‼️‼️

Every time I give this channel a chance your takes never fail to disappoint. Not everything has to be on screen & spoon-fed & over explained.
The story is in first person, it's not following the other tributes to show what random stuff they got. There is zero reason to develop all the characters that are going to die, there's just too many. They also showed everyone getting a chance at a final item they all needed at the end anyway. Not knowing where the enemy is & what advantage they have is part of the horror of the games & the audience gets to experience that alongside Katniss.
You totally missed the whole point of Haymitch schmoozing with people - its a main part of how sponsors work. He can try & get people to give more donations, request specific things, & he is the one that sends them and gives strategy advice. They aren't going to let every Cato or Rue fan for instance send them all the things they need. 1) the gifts are expensive even if small 2) the game makers do not want them to get too much help. That doesn't harm the structure at all.
As for Gale, the feelings are one sided & neither has actually talked about it because most of their lives has been 1 thing - don't starve. Hence why it doesn't feel that way at the beginning - because it's not supposed to. You are just meant to get the sense they are best friends & the only people besides immediate family each other has. It's after playing a romantic part in the games Katniss realizes how Gale is looking at her in the way Peeta does and it shows she is beginning to realize. That will play a huge part going forward & it's not just about who wins the loce triangle but if you really know yourself & what you stand for in life because that will determine who you share your life with.
Katniss is doesn't have many friends & they mentioned her basically not being likeable several times. This is why she is so nervous to be on stage with Caesar PLUS she is in a fancy expensive provocative dress (and she is still a very young girl) with heeled shoes that all probably cost more than her entire district takes home in a year, getting turned into FIRE. So yeah she isn't just twirling gracefully like a ballerina. She is awkward & doesn't like being the center of attention.
The amount of times you both couldn't understand why so many of the kids didn't just magically start killing people was disturbing.

I mean the wasps things make sense because in real life different people have different tolerance to stuff like some get stung by a bee and are just fine some people are deathly allergic to bee stings and can die so they can get away with and they said ( in some cases death) so it wasn't sure thing it would kill them

    • @stupacm5300
      @stupacm5300 6 дней назад +2

But those aren’t normal wasps. Tracker jackers are another example of Mutts, genetically engineered animals created by the Capital’s scientists (usually designed to be much nastier and scarier than the real world animals they’re modified from) for the specific purpose of being used as obstacles for the Tributes to face in the Games.
In the case of the Tracker Jackers, the poison from their stings is much more potent and lethal than a normal wasp’s. The death of the one girl killed by them was toned down considerably in the movie. If the condition of her body when Katniss got there to claim the bow and arrows had been as gruesome as it was described in the book, the image of that alone might’ve been enough to bump the movie up to an R rating.
