- The introduction of the refreshed Seiko Prospex Speedtimer, has sparked a lot of discussion regarding its iconic & sporty design and comparing it to the beloved Rolex Daytona, hence the name "Seitona". This has led many members of the Seiko Mod community to make custom watch cases for Seiko's VK63 mecha-quartz chronograph movement. Timekeeping functions of these mecha-quartz chronographs are controlled by quartz, while the stopwatch functions of the chronograph are recorded by a mechanical module. This combines the best of both mechanical and quartz movements, offering high accuracy and reliability, all without sacrificing that satisfying sweeping action on the seconds hand.

The speedtimer dial and daytona case combo is simply incredible.
Just built the same one last night! Truly a fun process!
Where can I learn to make a watch like this? I really Want to do this.
Yes ! And where do you find this pieces
those kids modding their seikos are the real enthusiasts.
i would be interested in a more in depth video on this!
MY I ask where you got that dial from?
Where can I find the info on doing this? I've been eyeing the SSC813 but I like it with the raised date window and black sub dials vs solar. I'd also like to paint the seconds market triangle red. This would be a perfect project!
Did the plastic spacer come with the case? I’m building the Snoopy Daytona one and the spacer seems a little too small for that movement/dial so it doesn’t sit fully in the spacer like yours. Without it sitting in there fully, the hand of the chronograph ends up touching the top part of the case
Any ideas how I can get the movement to fit in the spacer?
The ring should come with the case as a package, try reading the case specifications to see if it's made for your movement, otherwise I'd suggest to shave a bit of the plastic off, to make the ring fit or 3d printing one.
@@sparkflux1584 Thank you, it all came together as a set and VK63’s come in one size right? Is the dial supposed to be level with the height if the plastic? Or is only the width of the dial sticking over the top of the spacer?
👍👍
This looks amazing, I’m wanting to buy a modded watch, any good places anyone would recommend
DIY watch club is a good route to start modding watches, but you can get way cheaper prices if you take the extra effort to buy the necessary parts from aliexpress or ebay. For aftermarket parts, Namoki Mods and Lucius Atelier are most people's go-tos. Apart from that, I would say the OEM seiko stuff are usually harder to come by.
Can you share the parts you used?
I had to cut the edges of the dial since I ordered a case that was meant for smaller dials, so make sure to check your dial diameter and case dimensions to make sure it fits your wrist.
Parts:
- Seiko VK63 Mecha-Quartz Chronograph Movement:
- 39mm VK63 Daytona Case (for 29.5mm dials)
- 29.5mm Seiko Speedtimer dial (aftermarket)
- Seiko Speedtimer hour, minute, & chronograph hands (aftermarket)
- Black Ceramic Tachymeter Bezel Insert
- 20mm Bracelet (or any strap you prefer)
What is the original dial size of this before you cut the edges? Does the movement need spacer or it can exactly fit into the case?
Are these all oem parts?
amazing
What about solar charging? Is it just a quartz movement or solar?
the timekeeping is quartz, but the chronograph is a separate battery-powered, mechanical module.
Its a vk63, not the v192 so it is not solar, you have to change the battery every 2/3 years
Why not just buy the SC813 Speedtimer? No fake.
Because it's a mod. A cheaper yet quality alternative, same function for the fraction of the price.
@@adrianorhodchristianc.5261Here, it's an actual fake because neither the case nor the dial or hands are genuine Seiko parts. The TMI movement alone doesn't make it a Seiko, or else Pagani Design, Tandorio or whatever would also count as such...🙄
