Glad you brought this up. I’ve been considering this watch because I love the panda dial look, but I’ve held off due to the solar movement. What’s some of the best alternatives (aka Panda Dials that kinda look like a Daytona) with mechanical movements under ~$2,000?
"Under $2000" is not really an alternative to this watch, it costs $675. No one is cross-shopping it with $2000 watches. There are exactly zero mechanical chronographs from reputable, non-Chinese brands (like Seagull) below $700. This youtuber is basically chatting out his backside regarding value. The watch is priced appropriately for what it is. If solar/quartz movements put you off but you want a proper, functional and good looking chronograph, that's ok, just prepare to splash out at least twice the money.
The pepsi is $388.00 usd in Australia atm, think I'm gonna grab one. It's between this and a SRPE93K Prospex Turtle ($290 usd) with black rubber band for like a daily driver for work etc, so I'm a little torn. I love the look of the Speedtimer, I'm just worried about wear compared to the turtle, which does look a bit sturdier.
I saw a review of this watch by another RUclips channel, and they pointed out how bad the luminous is. The sub dials cover some of the markers and it’s really not straightforward to read the time in the dark.

I hope you can clarify my doubts.
Hey, maybe a weird question. But could you think about giving the watch a rating or ranking in future reviews? Like considering the price, quality, innovation, design, competition, longevity etc. According to your opinion. Maybe in a 1 to 5 star ranking or f to s tier system. Idk but it would be nice for customers to compare watches. Again idk but would be nice!
That's a great suggestion! I didn't think about this but I guess it wouldn't hurt to add a score like how you described at the end of my reviews and rank them continually, Top Gear style haha. Thanks a lot for watching and hope you found some value from this video!
What is the best way to purchase on-line while making sure you aren't getting a fake? I'm looking to replace an old broken chronograph. I'm looking for the best price on this watch without risking a used , or worse, fake. Do you know if Seiko will give a trade-in crdit for an old, broken, Seiko watch?
Sorry for the late response! I would be very careful nowadays purchasing any watch online, including a Seiko. There have been a lot of fakes going around unfortunately. Seiko, to my knowledge, doesn’t offer any trade-in credit online. However, if you talk to your local Seiko dealer in store, some may do this. Just make sure what you are trading in isn’t some rare piece worth getting fixed and keeping. Hope this helped and thank you for taking the time to watch my video!
My thoughts? Big plus. It's a SOLAR! Love that! Minus though is the price. Personally I become increasingly resistant as the price approaches $300 or so. That's just me. Sure, I could blow $700US on a watch . . . but won't. I remain happy with my Pagani Design panda. It's not solar but much more closely fits into what I'm willing to pay for a watch. Cosmetically it seems a pretty close match to the Seiko.
Pagani Design is hard to beat. Solar is nice but like I mentioned, Seiko needs to work on hiding their cells a bit better. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and taking the time to watch my video!
You really can't compare Pagani to Seiko. Seiko is an iconic, highly respected and established brand. I can understand the value for money Pagani offers but seriously, they're known for ripping off everyone's designs. Not a great way to build your brand long-term.
@@ronch550 I have both a Seiko and a PD chrono. I like them both and, to my mind, are indeed quite comparable. As to "ripping off," both are quartz copies of a Rolex design. So, no difference on that score. Difference is, my PD model 1644 is considerably less expensive than my Seiko model SBTR017. I do prefer that the Seiko does not have screw down pushers. Cosmetically, I'd be hard-pressed to state a preference. They're both rather gorgeous.
@@terrydanks I'm not talking about just the watch shown in this video, but these companies in general. I think you need to consider the achievements of both Seiko and Pagani. Seiko has had a long run and is a very iconic brand in the world of horology and their watches and movements have a great track record for longevity. Pagani only copies the designs of others very closely, and just buys their movements from... Seiko. Big, big difference between Seiko and Pagani.

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the subscribe! That strap is from CNS Watch Bands. I bought it a while back but it should still be in their catalog 😃
Great question, I don't think there is a difference. I think it may be a market code for which region of the world the model is sold in. Not completely sure to be honest!
I can't speak to this unfortunately but if you've ever worn a Seiko SKX and can pull that off, this one will definitely fit! Best bet would to hit up a Seiko retailer that has one in stock to try on and see how you like it. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Wearing one right now on a bund strap - looks the business! As you say, it's very comfortable & the proportions are spot on. Overall, a very good looking piece & I'd encourage anyone who's a bit interested to try one on. I defy you not to buy it!
This chronograph on a bund strap is probably such a killer combo and suitable for its looks! Thanks for watching and glad you're enjoying your Speedtimer :)
Im actually looking for a good leather bund for the gold/brownish yellow dial version of this watch but trying to find a good bund with the right width thats tannish in color is very difficult
So the video title telling us we "shouldn't buy it" is a click-bait ?! I'm sorry, but you really missed the mark on this incredible watch. I bought it a few months back at $450 and I believe it is still a great buy at $700. This is my first video to watch fromyour channel and I'm not compelled to subscribe or keep watching your reviews.
I’m sorry you felt this way... this is just my personal opinion and I don’t think everyone will agree with me. I hope you at least found my video entertaining and if not, I hope my future videos are more of your liking 😃. I personally wouldn’t buy the watch at this price point. It’s a great watch no doubt! However, I expect a little more from Seiko in their QC department and refinement in finishing overall. I’m hoping as they produce more of their solar watches, they work out kinks on getting the cells hidden a bit better like citizen.
I have the SSC813 and really really want to love it but I find the case size too small for my liking. Each time I think about selling it, I wear it again and try very hard to love it. Case size is my only complaint
I think your logic on the value is a bit flawed. Mechanical chronographs start in the $1200-1500 range, and they come with some disadvantages: 1) thickness, 2) service costs, 3) price. So for under $700, you're getting a chronograph that's relatively thin by chrono standards, doesn't need batteries, and has sapphire glass crystal with anti-reflective coating. Not really a bad deal!
What cheaper alternative would you recommend then for a great chronograph then? I don't have in mind many good quality chronographs under 1k. The Seiko fightmaster comes to mind. But I wouldn't say there are many cheaper options though.
i have just tried this watch out and fell in love with it but the price was 18.000 liras in the dealer so i looked up chrono24 and found it for roughly 10.000 liras with shipping and it is a pretty good price for me. also i would like to know the alternatives please remind me if you get a comment🙏

@@ronch550it’s an automatic, seiko is a quartz.
what is the difference between SBDL085 and SSC813?
Great video, very accurate analysis. In my 4.5 years in the game as a watch collector and enthusiast, I collected a lot from MaMacoo I was thinking I was able to get a blue SD but I'm not vip enough, but I'm not giving up. Hehe. Great video.
Great value watch, I love Seiko, , your videos are great ,punchy and very well filmed, I really have taken some tips on how to do a video on my next review, Subscribed, regards Nick
Thanks a lot! Glad you found my video enjoyable and took a thing or two from my content. Hope you enjoy my next one!
Just ordered the JDM version SBDL085 for $418 after taxes. Hopefully the nitpicks don't bother me.
hey just saw this and subscribed. where can i find that grey/ivory strap you have at 3:11?
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the subscribe! That strap is from CNS Watch Bands. I bought it a while back but it should still be in their catalog 😃
What do u think about the newer version?
I haven't seen them in person but I like the nod to the original Speedtimers of the late 60's. Thanks for watching!
But what better solar watch is there in that price range? The entry luxury does not do solar except Tag Heuer at double the price.
I believe no man can say no to AMZWATCH's watches
Just discovered your channel. Really really great stuff. I'm looking forward to checking out more.
Thank you! I have some plans going into the New Year. Stay tuned!
@@ClickyBezel great to hear!
Great review
Thank you, Nicola! Hope you're doing well :)
pretty neat actually. especially from wearing an analog ggb100 triple sensor with one dial.. the exact trade-offs are pretty funny to think up.
Thanks for watching!
Which camera do you use for your videos?
It’s a combination of Canon R, Canon C70, Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 6K, and my iPhone.
hi,
Do you know what's the different between SSC813 and SSC813P1 ?
Great question, I don't think there is a difference. I think it may be a market code for which region of the world the model is sold in. Not completely sure to be honest!
the uncle has good taste.
Great video bro! Just subbed!
Thank you!
What do you mean should not buy?
how would this fit a 5 inch wrist?
I can't speak to this unfortunately but if you've ever worn a Seiko SKX and can pull that off, this one will definitely fit! Best bet would to hit up a Seiko retailer that has one in stock to try on and see how you like it. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
@@ClickyBezel are they still hard to find? i’ve seen them on amazon, is there a chance those have any defects?
Wearing one right now on a bund strap - looks the business! As you say, it's very comfortable & the proportions are spot on. Overall, a very good looking piece & I'd encourage anyone who's a bit interested to try one on. I defy you not to buy it!
This chronograph on a bund strap is probably such a killer combo and suitable for its looks! Thanks for watching and glad you're enjoying your Speedtimer :)
Im actually looking for a good leather bund for the gold/brownish yellow dial version of this watch but trying to find a good bund with the right width thats tannish in color is very difficult
Great job on the video review!!
Thanks a lot!
An Oris for $700???
Thanks for the honest review!
I'd love a review of the 7a28 speedtimer
I’ve got one on my channel. Check it out!

Do a video on the vintage speedtimer
Will definitely keep that suggestion in mind ;) Thanks for watching!
I have the SSC813 and really really want to love it but I find the case size too small for my liking. Each time I think about selling it, I wear it again and try very hard to love it. Case size is my only complaint
Same. Thinking of swapping me ssc813 for the ssc911 I just wish it had the panda with white instead of silver
Is this watch made in Japan ?
Unfortunately, I don’t think so.
This doesn't cost 700. Almost nowhere. Max, 520. But you can get these as cheap as 390.
Lol where, everywhere here they are from 600 and above
What cheaper alternative would you recommend then for a great chronograph then?
I don't have in mind many good quality chronographs under 1k.
The Seiko fightmaster comes to mind. But I wouldn't say there are many cheaper options though.
i have just tried this watch out and fell in love with it but the price was 18.000 liras in the dealer so i looked up chrono24 and found it for roughly 10.000 liras with shipping and it is a pretty good price for me. also i would like to know the alternatives please remind me if you get a comment🙏
Pagani panda
Great watch….apart from the useless date window
