This battle system is perfect. It's the perfect evolution of turn based combat. It turns all the mechanics of the ATB system into an actual real time battle system that still preserves the team based strategy combat that would be neccessary in a turn based game. It allows FF7 Remake to impact the genre and push it foward the same way that the orginal did before it as I am sure many games will take inspiration from this system for future rpgs. Great job Square you genuinely seemed to nail it this time.

I really don't get it when people try to compare it to Kingdom Hearts. Kingdom Hearts is a significantly more refined battle system when it comes to the action side of things, emphasizing the mastery of a particular character's moveset to deal with mobs of enemies, all being of different enemy types, while strategically considering how to position yourself to evade enemy attack patterns while FF7 Remake is a more refined version of both the original ATB battle system plus FF 15's real time combat with a bunch of totally new ideas. This means that FF7 Remake is a refined evolution of turn based combat not Kingdom Hearts' action combat. Just because they both have command menus doesn't mean they're alike AT ALL lol.

Jonathan Black Square Enix isnt up to speed yet how to create an open world game. They could have done the whole game but that would have ended up like FF13 walk a corridor from point A-B. I’m happy about getting 2-3 complete large scale FF games instead of 1. And, no this game will not be the same experience like the OG. This is a new experience.
Because FFVII is a massive game and if they would’ve remade the whole thing in this style and level of detail it would have to either be an abbreviated version of it or take twice to three times as long to develop.
Honestly, the remake is amazing. The time and detail they put in to the visuals, the story, the voice acting, the soundtrack and everything else is astonishing. It's taken a bit to get used to the change to combat mechanics but I'm ok with it so far

Probably just this game. Midgar isn’t even a third of the original. I can’t begin to imagine how awesome the open fields will look with along with midgar Zolom, costa del rio, inside the lifestream, and of course gold saucer. I highly doubt they can fit all that in just one more game.

40 hours max taking your time. No where near the "full FF game" people are saying considering the original FF7 was well over 100 hours long when taking your time, same as FF8, ff10 etc etc.

I agree, glad somebody else sees it. I thought XIII’s battle system was the culmination of all of the previous final fantasies. Some battles were so intense i would let out a sigh of relief after winning, but i never thought it was false difficulty. Everything felt right.

There should been a "jump" and double-jump" in the game in connection with striking attacks also it gives a further sense of freedom of movement. It should also be available in exploration. Furthermore, instead of slashing once just to break objects for items, they should have left the full combo system open even in exploration as well. These are minor details that makes the action aspect of the game comfortable for players.
I have mixed feelings about the Remake having an Action Based Battle System. Just having this Battle System doesn't make me think this is Final Fantasy VII. It doesn't even have the Victory Fanfare the Franchise is known for! And you lose the cinematic Battle experience found in the original up to XIII. I've always known Final Fantasy to have Active Time Battle since FFVI(FFIII for Super Nintendo) and FFVII back in 1998. Even since my first experience with Final Fantasy since FFVI, I thought the Active Time Battle Style was a "revolution"! I'm just disappointed that it's not 60 Frames PerSeconds. Especially after the PS3 Tech Demo. Even with PS4 Pro, there's still no 60 Frames PerSeconds! Another thing why I'm disappointed is that they should have started Remaking it three years earlier at least because it's already passed FFVII's 20th Anniversary!
Except it does have the ATB battle system, the characters just don’t stand statically on the screen and stare at each other during fights. Which would look ridiculous and be immersion breaking with this ultra HD modern style.
Unfortunately i'll wait for the reviews, i wanna see the variety in locations, bosses, enemies, level design, post game content before i pick this up, i hope the whole game doesn't have this mechanical look, it's extremely boring, the variety in dungeons, locations is what makes ff games shine, i also don't know how they'll fit different monsters and bosses in Midgar, they wouldn't make sense given the context of the location which the game takes place.
