I always come back to this video. Every time I watch it I learn something new or realize something I might not have before. Not only because the video is on my car specifically, but because this is one of the most in-depth engine tuning videos I’ve ever found on RUclips. The only other guys that create videos like this are those Australian guys who have their courses online. I made sure to download this video in case it ceases to exist.
So much information that I needed in this single video! This gives me more confidence in owning and tuning a GTO (we have japan imports). Keep up the good work and love from Australia!
I was also running 400hp awhp EU spec with 13G turbos stock. just new intercooler, fuel pump and boost controller. ofc new clutch and flywheel. Running twice the fuel pressure on stock injectors.
For the 3000GT/Stealth/GTO they all run on the same engine with few changes between the generations I, Ii, and III over those nine years. There are some pros to the 2nd and 3rd generations that I believe make them a bit more stable.
hrmms i need an SL tuned atm. Its a fully built all-motor build with 13:1 compression and the stage 2+ cams. Has chrome ecu but tbh no idea what im doing when adjusting fuel maps.
Thanks for the great walkthrough, I was expecting some chrome tuning but same principles apply, if you do a chrome tuning overview that would be amazing for 3S guys, I'm running chrome with just peripheries disabled and evo maf tables, still on stock air/fuel but got a set of 13t turbos needing a rebuild, I think chrome is a good fit for those power levels (even with a piggyback lol).
Thank you for the kind words! Indeed the same principles apply whether you are using AEM, Chrome, or another EMS. They each may do it a little bit differently but the concept is the same. We tune a lot of these cars on Jester Chrome. Visit our page on Facebook under RacerX Performance Tuning. Hit the Message button and we can talk about your goals!
@@Morgamania2 It’d nice if Mitsubishi could still compete in that market imagine a new 3000GT along side GTRs , Supra Mk5 , Nissan fairlady z , Nsx , GR86s and sense it they had a collab with Chrysler at the time current Dodge. (But then again I love my 1993 3KGT) Just wondered where they could’ve gone with all that tech , and that motor
Indeed the better your intercoolers the cooler the charged air can be, leading to more power. The best intercoolers will produce a 10 degree difference before and after. I have a dual temp sensor for this purpose.
Thank you so very much! I appreciate the kind sentiment. AEM has gotten out of the tuning business so the only way to get a unit is on the used market. (There are some out there but prices will start to rise I suspect.) Most of my new clients are going with Haltech Elite 2500 which I highly recommend. Hard to say what 1/4 mile times can be got from 500 HP here. There are a lot of additional factors including launch control (available in AEM and others), clutch and transmission, and of course....the driver!

Great video, adding to my playlist.
Great job with this long form video. You do a great job breaking down the how and why of this tuning platform.

This is an awesome tuning tutorial for the 3s platform. Love it! Keep them coming.
Thank you very much!
Which generation car would be the best to build? I'm shopping for one now and probably will end up getting a rhd import from japan.

Came for the sound, stayed for the great information

What why would they stop at 1999 , the platform was clearly capable
As I understand it, it had to do with the market for this type of car changing there in the late 90s.

Doesn’t the intake charge get far to hot without beefier intercoolers?

Great video and great tuning strategy... now i just need to find an AEM EMS for sale... what 1/4 mile times are expected in a 500 WHP 3000GT VR4?
