    Diagnosing bad idle, test/replace Idle Air Control (IAC) on a 3000GT VR-4. Determining the cause of problems on your car takes research, data logging, and diagnostic tools. Tuning won't solve mechanical problems. But once you fix things the tuning goes very well!

    Thanks for putting out quality content. I’ve been collecting parts, learning, and researching every detail of my 3000gt build. I have an NA currently but plan on buying a VR4 and converting the NA once I have the workspace. Videos like these really help me get ready for the project and understanding the undertaking that it is.

    Thanks for putting that out there Morgan. As these cars are almost three decades old we're going to have to start replacing stuff.

    FYI the pink IAC that came on outs is known to fail. The newer black ones are more reliable.

    Hi quality relays and relay sockets are often overlooked for the fuel pump rewire.

    Whered you buy that IAC if you dont mind me asking 🤔

      The IAC in this car is part of the Jester MAF. I'm actually on speed density on the AEM so the MAF is generally ignored. The only value coming from it that is used is the IAT. Ideally I'd delete the MAF and just install an IAT after the intercoolers. The Jester MAF is great for people on Chrome as it reads farther than the stock MAF helping you to get beyond the theoretical ~400 horsepower limitation.

    Are you able to remote tune. In the process of getting a remote turbo setup done

    That is great info, but how do I check if the drivers in the ECU are bad? I have a problem with the idle where when I turn on the AC, the RPMs drop, while they are supposed to rise… I have tried several IAC motors, some of them of the older style and some of the new style and even though all tested good, none of them fixed the issue. Turning the steering wheel also does not raise the RPMs like it is supposed to… Now, I am running a Chrome ECU that is only several years old and I am very skeptical that its drivers would be burned, but I am not sure what else is left that could cause this problem. MASS airflow sensor maybe? So, is there a way to test the ECU drivers through testing the harness?

    • @Morgamania2
      @Morgamania2  11 месяцев назад +1

      Indeed idle should be higher, by anywhere from 50 to a few hundred RPMs depending on the coolant temp, when you turn on the AC. The stock idle settings in Chrome are generally spot on and I refrain from modifying those in most scenarios... meaning this would most likely be some mechanical issue. When you say drivers I believe you are referring to leaky capacitors - a condition that happens on some stock ECUs, but I've never heard of it on a Chrome ECU. Since you have ruled out the IAC consider your FIAV (fast idle air valve). All these parts are like 30 years old on our cars at this point so the probability of failure gets higher. Best wishes!

      @@Morgamania2,
      I thought that the FIAV was only relevant on a cold start? Would it help if I block it off with one of the plates someone makes for it or should I just replace the throttle body?

    • @jeremysharp5436
      @jeremysharp5436 10 месяцев назад +1

      @IlianNachev correct. The FIAV is only related to idle at cold start. But if it happened to leak air, it could make it hard for the IAC to do its job. My suggestion is to :
      Boost leak test.
      Fix all leaks.
      Test/set TPS.
      Clean IAC AND where it goes into the TB.
      If all is good, you can delete the FIAV, but just be aware it will affect start up/warm up in cold weather.

      @IlianNachev no problem, I am the mechanic for several of RacerX's customers, so I thought I would chime in with some suggestions.

    Looks to me like you've got a mechanical problem with that atmo BOV and a jester AFM.

    • @Morgamania2
      @Morgamania2  5 месяцев назад

      Actually no issues with the BOV or the Jester MAF. This car is on speed density so the only thing used from the MAF is the IAT. I could removed it altogether and just put in a solo IAT sensor. Once the fuel pump wiring and IAC were fixed it was back to normal.

    • @1magnit
      @1magnit 5 месяцев назад

      @@Morgamania2 That creates another hardware problem where the IAT should be in the manifold, not before it. Both temperature and pressure drop across the throttle butterfly, not really relevant for WOT but essential for part throttle. The turbos heat the charge, the charge coolers try to cool it. What you're measuring at the intake has zero relevance to the manifold temp.

    • @Morgamania2
      @Morgamania2  5 месяцев назад

      @@1magnit I hear ya, but idk as the stock VR-4 is designed that way. I don't have any issues at part throttle.

    • @1magnit
      @1magnit 5 месяцев назад

      With the stock setup it's equivalent to MAF, as in the air is metered before it enters the engine, volume, temperature and pressure. Those 3 give mass. When it's speed density you've got to measure the air inside the manifold. To get density you need temperature and pressure. That's inside the manifold not temperature before it enters the engine. If you're only measuring the pressure in the manifold it's not speed density, it's speed pressure with a clown type temperature compensation. The Mitsubishi factory speed density setups, they measure the temp at the far end of the manifold, the opposite end from the throttle body. @@Morgamania2

      @@1magnit True on the MAF stock setup. I should have clarified that earlier. I understand what you are saying there with regard to where we measure temperature. This is the car tuned here: ruclips.net/video/Prmn_7ToGQw/видео.html
