    Thanks so much for this guide Colin, definitely going to give this a try! I'm getting bogged down with massive pedal chains and neglecting the keep it simple approach. Great video.

    today I was struggling with my guitar tracks and couldn't make them sound 100% fitting to the rest of the song. So I gave it a rest and coincidentally checked my mails. BAM I received an email from Colin with the topic "do you need better guitar distortion?"... made my evening. Thanks for the ideas, I am sitting at the moment in my studio and about to find my sound. thanks again bro!

    The perfect solution to my seemingly endless journey of just finding a good solid guitar tone! I fell in to the trap of scrolling through tons of presets hoping one will jump out at me but never did. After watching this video I feel kind of silly not just keeping it simple like this. I also noticed how the left guitar and right guitar are playing a bit of a different pattern which ads to the full over all guitar tone. Thank you Thank you Colin! Shout out to QTIP95.....YOUR CHANNEL IS A GOLD MINE!!!

      The guitar is definitely part of the tone. On that one we used a Fender Tele on one side and a Danelectro on the other

    Distorted cool for distorted cats...The Analogue Obsession plugins are free but you need to sign up to Paetron for a few dollars a month to access them. You only need to sign up for one month, and once you have downloaded your plugins you can cancel the subscription if you want to. It will still cost you the initial few dollars. Analogue Obsession make good plugins though, so it's worth it.

    but if i use the brit how sould I use the pre amp board? I should use it as you showed at the beginning with that eq and the grit? Or without?

    • @TheBandGuide
      @TheBandGuide  2 года назад +1

      The Pedalboard? Totally up to you! Some people drive pedals into a preamp. Typically I just run direct though without pedals. I'm only really using the EQ on the pedalboard to add volume to the signal going into the brit preamp.

    Pls pls pls help!
    Yes I’m that frustrated and desperate for a good solid piece of advice.
    I’m quite new to the electric guitar and GarageBand/AmpliTube world. I’ve been practicing some songs and started even recording the clean guitar parts of the songs BUT whenever I try to play or record the heavy parts with heavy distortions, especially when I play fast solos, it turns out very messy and the bad distorted tones destroys the entire playing with lots of unwanted noises while I’m playing. I tried so many different approaches and checked RUclips in order to find a “how to get rid of the continuous random distortion noise WHILE playing” but couldn’t get any help.
    Pls note that I’m not talking about buzzing sounds, humming or background noise. It’s all about that random distorted noise that invades the spaces between the tones while I’m playing fast solos using distortions.
    I use iRig HD 2 as my digital guitar interface.
    Ps: I’m not sure if I used the right jargons in order to describe my issue or not! But hopefully you got the essence of it.
    Thank you very much in advance if you could help me out with this.

    • @TheBandGuide
      @TheBandGuide  2 года назад +1

      Hey! Man, I definitely feel that frustration. Recording super distorted guitars gets really tricky because of the inherent noise that comes with the nature of the distortion. I wish there was a single, clear cut “do this one thing and it will be fixed” answer that I could give you but it’s a little more nuanced than that and will likely require a few subtle tweaks at a few subtle points.
      The first place to start is actually in your playing- something is happening in those moments that the distortion is highlighting. What I would do is record a solo with the super heavy distortion, then go through it and note every time you hear unwanted noise, then turn down the distortion and listen to what’s happening in the performance at those points through a cleaner tone. Maybe you need to hammer on instead of sliding across a fret (or vice versa), maybe you need to full stop then hit the next note? See if you can pick up those things and adjust the performance.
      Second- AFTER you’ve tightened up your performance, if there are little moments- see if you can get a noise gate to cut the noise. A noise gate is essentially just going to cut the audio when it drops below a certain volume. A lot of those little transitions are likely quieter than your playing is. Put the noise gate BEFORE the amp. If you can’t get it to work, see if you can find any free noise gate plugins you can try (the GB one is a little limited in advanced settings). A quality noise gate is a must have on a pedalboard for heavy guitarists- so it might be worth looking into the gear the guitarists you like are using and maybe get an actual pedal to plug into before the interface.
      Last- you might want to play with scaling back the distortion just a little bit. See if you can find the happy medium where it’s still heavy enough but isn’t too noisy for you. It’s a dance, but there will be a sweet spot in there somewhere if you’ve done the first 2 steps.
      I hope this helps!
