  • Great film and I somehow have always found this a touching moment. They are far from home and waiting to finally go into action after all their training. The last thing they need is another lecture on what they already know.
    I do not have rights to this film but I am putting this up as a tribute and to encourage people to go out and get it.

    Somehow this scene has so deeply impressed and moved me, I would like to watch the whole film. This is QUALITY at its best. Those men, lifting their voices in song, knowing very well that they might never return home from the war....This film is much, much better than the trashy "action movies" that flood the world nowadays.

      Absolutely right - a very young Peter Ustinov helped to write / produce it, and it is very witty, as well as realistically moving. The old guys (Chelsea Pensioners) who crop up in the film from time to time are also very amusing.

    A heart warming and moving scene from a great British film. Young people probably won't understand its significance, but older people, who lived through the war, will.

      Itschad1954: And don't forget the late, great Peter Ustinov (1:59). There's other faces I know but can't put a name to them off-hand.....

      The soldier on whom John Laurie leans is Leslie Dwyer. He was a regular member of the Hi-Di-Hi cast.

    The best generation by far. When the enemy was at the door young men came forward to lay their lives on the line to protect their country and take the fight to the enemy. If it happened to day and the bombs started dropping, half of London would depart for their home countries

    Political correctness was already rearing it's head when this film was made. Check out the original words for Lady of Laguna as sung by such as GH Eliot .

      Political correctness is not the same as people not wanting to sing a flatly racist song.

    • @peteb8556
      @peteb8556 Год назад

      @@Tonks143 ; political correctness is indeed 'cultural marxism' which sprang from the 'Frankfurt School' in the 1920's. Which is also described as 'wokeness' . Our western societies have been permeated by this ideology .The fact is, it was NOT classed as 'racist; over 100 yrs ago. No doubt your one of the woke 'cancel culture' brigade though ?
