Such a bittersweet final single, and the most positive sounding song on what would be their final album. I remember on the dvd single of this Cerys said that this song was about "building anew on old foundations". It's such a shame that they didn't continue after this. I was gutted when they broke up.
I agree, it's such a classy and catchy track. And Cerys, I love her dress sense from the start and to this day! She looks well in a suit, and the videos always have a hidden meaning or subterranean plot! I'm 40 now and still love'em.
what a majestic song by a great, unconventional band that went away just when they were really hitting their stride. Where it burned orange let it burn gold.
Who is still listening to this in 2023 about to be 2024 in a few weeks? I am. Awesome song, such a strong anthem and what a brilliant last single if there ever was one.
Big chorus! Saw them perform this to playback at Brighton’s Party in the Park concert (remember those?!) in 2001 for the radio station Southern FM, long gone now
@goops1071 thank you for your comment, it stopped me from thinking that I wished I'd seen them but now never will because it's unlikely that they'll reform to remembering that I have already seen them at the 5th T in the Park festival many years ago. Cerys stopped singing during one song, can't remember who one, and just stood there on stage looking out at something with a mesmerized smile on her face. After a little while she said that she was sorry but that she couldn't get over how beautiful that looked, while pointing out into the distance. I turned around with thousands of people to look at what had captivated her and was blown away by the sight she was so enchanted by. It was a huge Ferris wheel all lit up with sparkling different colour lights and the Sun was a huge ball of orange, pink and purple glow, shining through, exactly in the same position as the turning wheel. Breathtakingly beautiful. Thanks for your comment which has brought back a really happy memory. 😊
You always hear the shouts From my battalion I send toy soldiers out to Help me stand And when I see you hide Behind those curtain folds I cross the room to turn the Lights down low... On common ground We'll build our castle walls We'll build them stone by stone And how With more and more You know it won't take long Where it burned orange Let it burn gold... I wouldn't like to learn A lesson everyday Good times, bad times It's just the price to pay But given half the chance Of turning back the tide I'll stay at home and keep My boys in line... On common ground We'll build our castle walls We'll build them stone by stone And how And more and more You know it won't take long Where it burned orange Let it burn gold... And given half the chance To turn the hands of time I'm always the bridesmaid Couldn't live with myself If I tried to be the bride... On common ground We'll build our castle walls We'll build them stone by stone And how With more and more You know it won't take long Where it burned orange Let it burn gold...
I think so, I think it was their last single, so sad they're not going now as they were awesome, love them. So glad Cerys is still playing though, she's so talented and absolutely gorgeous.

It’s time for this band to reunite. I discovered them of Napster about 3 months before they broke up. I will fly from the US if I have to see a show.
i just never get tired of this band !

I feel like almost tearing up when it comes to the final chorus. It feels like a big triumph about, something called, life.
She is very good in this song, building up the chorous :)

This band deserves way more recognition! The third song "Fuel" has been prophetic: "fools get voted in a democracy."
MAGA 2020.

You always hear the shouts
From my battalion
I send toy soldiers out to
Help me stand
And when I see you hide
Behind those curtain folds
I cross the room to turn the
Lights down low...
On common ground
We'll build our castle walls
We'll build them stone by stone
And how
With more and more
You know it won't take long
Where it burned orange
Let it burn gold...
I wouldn't like to learn
A lesson everyday
Good times, bad times
It's just the price to pay
But given half the chance
Of turning back the tide
I'll stay at home and keep
My boys in line...
On common ground
We'll build our castle walls
We'll build them stone by stone
And how
And more and more
You know it won't take long
Where it burned orange
Let it burn gold...
And given half the chance
To turn the hands of time
I'm always the bridesmaid
Couldn't live with myself
If I tried to be the bride...
On common ground
We'll build our castle walls
We'll build them stone by stone
And how
With more and more
You know it won't take long
Where it burned orange
Let it burn gold...

Catatonia’s majestic parting shot. The band would break up two months after its July 2001 release.
Amazing!
love this, their best song in my opinion and their last song was it not?
I think so, I think it was their last single, so sad they're not going now as they were awesome, love them. So glad Cerys is still playing though, she's so talented and absolutely gorgeous.

She's got a DJ slot on Radio Five.
she stays at home; and keep her boys in line.
Sounds cool now but back in early 2000s it was not the kinda music ppl expected.
One on my employees really loves this lot.
He was a "star" in the world of pro-wrestling.
Who is best girl in GuP?
I never noticed before that Owen the guitarist is playing bass in the vid.
Please do you have any information about the flag inside of this music video? Is it real flag used somewhere ? Thank you.
Wales flag
What the chord of this song?
great sound, false vision
Always wondered why the bass player's not in this vid then they hold up a big mugshot of him at the end. Was he the first to jump...
Yeah, Mark Roberts pretended to be the bassist for the video! Not sure if he was just unavailable for the video shoot, as I don't think he left early.
For some reason the bassist was unavailable for video shoot.
Is that Royal Berks hospital?
Is the Royal Berks hospital in Cardiff?
I honestly just wanted place to drink Dr.Pepper and Coca Cola without the judgement
Good song, not sure what it had to do with the Velvet Revolution or Solidarity.
