  • I HAVE SPENT MY LIFE FIXING THINGS BECAUSE I COULDNT AFFORD TO BUY NICE STUFF THAT DIDNT NEED WORK. MY LITTLE ROLLBACK WILL ALWAYS NEED SOME REPAIRS HERE AND THERE. IT IS OLD AND DIDNT HAVE THE BEST CARE BEFORE I GOT IT. IM OK WITH THAT. I BOUGHT THIS LINCOLN POWER MIG 260 NEW BEFORE I WAS INTRODUCED TO HTP WELDERS. THE LINCOLN SEEMS TO WORK WELL AT FIRST BUT DEVELOPED ISSUES QUICKLY. I BOUGHT NEW BECAUSE I DIDNT WANT TO HAVE TO WORK ON IT......SO MUCH FOR THAT. I SHOULD HAVE TAKEN IT IN FOR WARRANTY REPAIR THEN. I PUSHED IT ASIDE. FELL IN LOVE WITH THE HTP AND NEVER LOOKED BACK. I TRIED TO MAKE FENDER BACKS OUT OF SOME MUCH HEAVIER MATIERIAL THAN ORIGINAL AND WELD THEM TO THE FENDERS. WELL THAT WAS A DISASTER. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN WHY I WAS HAVING TROUBLES BUT I FAILED. I DID FIGURE IT OUT. HOPEFULLY I LEARNED THAT LESSON AND WONT NEED TO LEARN IT AGAIN! FRUSTRATING......

Thanks so much for telling us what was wrong with your Lincoln welder. You demonstrated what is really great about RUclips. Sharing your knowledge with us viewers is really valuable and I have no idea how to find out these things without personally hanging out in lots of other guys shops.

Glad to hear the Lincoln was an easy fix. That’s not a cheap welder so problems that quick are frustrating

Its called galvannealed,or at least that's what it looks like. The white smoky looking powder is zinc, probably not a good idea to be breathing that while welding .

Shame that people are THAT shady and scummy where you have to worry constantly about someone trying to pull a fast one on you and sell you a POS. Anything to make a buck nowadays.. 😔🙄 Disgusting that people do stuff like this so much. If you weren't as diligent and in-depth looking over that truck, or were just willing to accept the sellers excuses about 'gas,' you could've bought another boat anchor. He just wanted to get your money, send you on your way and if it grenaded the motor he would've just said "Oh well, you own it, not my problem." Glad you were wise/ dedicated enough to see through the BS from that shiester J.C.!!! Thank You for sharing!

It looks like an aluminized fender. I weld this sort of stuff with flux core and just wire wheel off the soot. Just give them a quick coat of an acid etch primer and and paint over with anything you like from there. There's absolutely no need to flap disk the entire thing.

The fenders look fantastic J.C. I’m glad you didn’t end up buying that truck you were talking about. Sounds like the guy was giving every red flag in the book.
Super glad to hear you got your Lincoln welder fixed. It’s a shame it was something as simple as a bad lead that caused so much trouble, but at least it was a cheap fix.👍

Two problem areas for low oil pressure especially when above a certain temperature with LS engines are primarily oil pickup o ring at the pump and less commonly camshaft bearings especially on 6.0s. I had to put cam bearings in my pickup engine. Two or three came out with the camshaft but new ones were still a press fit into the block. That was over 30k miles ago and still going strong with over 300k miles on it. Bought that 4 door 4x4 LT for 2500 dollars. If I were you I would have talked him down so much more and might have came away with a real gem! Or either another boat anchor because it ran too long with low oil pressure and ruined crank and crank bearings lol. Would have drained the oil to see what came out. Bearing material okay but steel no good!

I've replaced quite a few pairs of those fenders and those vertical angle iron inside on the backs I always assumed it was a measure to keep the backs from pushing inward towards the tires. People love to load things and cram against the fenders or try to drive over them.

My experience with metal and welding any time you see that white stuff it is galvanizing of some form or another whether it be a paint with it in it or a rust proofing process, could be aluminized coating like they put on exhaust I don't know. But I do know breathing in galvanizing while welding creates a poison

I had the same problem. When I hooked up my gun it wasn't seated in all the way back at the motor . Not sure if the o-rings for the gas got damaged but I ordered a new set . Will check them when I change out the wire . I played hell with the settings before I found the problem.
