My parents divorced but are now remarried to each other. It actually has worked out well for them. My mother left because of my father’s alcoholism. They were separated for a year then divorced for a few more years. However, my dad never dated anyone else, stopped drinking, tried really hard to win my mom back, and it worked. They’ve been married for the second time for over 20 years now and are empty nesting pretty happily from what I can tell. One anniversary of my mom leaving, my dad even sort of re-proposed asking her “will you stay married to me this time?”
Fun fact: here in Spain they translated the title of this movie for some reason to "Yo a Londres y tu a California" which translates to "Me to London and you to California" which literally spoils the movie 😂😂
In Brazil it's called "Operação Cupido" ie "Operation Cupid", so imagine my surprise when I found out that half the movie is not about them actually trying to get their parents back together
@@seline__ Happy early birthday! (Since I have no idea when in the year your birthday is, please feel free to save this birthday wish for the appropriate date lol)
There are so many things I rewatch now where a characters age is given, and my first thought is how much older I am than them now and where I was at their age.
The parents are legitimately horrible people. It's one thing not to tell your kid they're adopted. It's another thing entirely to hide a whole parent (with whom you share no animocity) and a sibling from your kid. It's such a messed up arrangement in the first place. They had to make Meredith cartoonishly evil. Otherwise, the parents would've been the villains. I literally thought about all of this when I, too, watched this for the first time on VHS with a friend while I was in middle school.
@@PinkPopcast I came from a blended family, so that's probably why. I was just used to some of my half-siblings spending time with their other parent. That's normal. What the Parent Trap parents did is just WTF.
Well it’s a movie. Majority of movies hinge on suspending disbelief on the realism for fun or cool plot. They admit they were young and the decision was stupid probably made when they were extremely angry at each other similar to most real life divorces. I’m similar situation to where I didn’t know my real dad or that i had 2 more siblings until I was 17. Yeah it sucked but once I fully understood the situation I became a bit more understanding to both my parents. Not saying all parents are god but I tend not to judge people only on the worst decision.
It makes a bit more sense when you know it's based on a book from the 1940s and the parents were German (mother) and Austrian (father). If I remember correctly. Also the book, as I recall, is actually less of a comedy and leaning more into the more serious moments and how hard it gets.
this is one of my ultimate comfort movies. Also I know Meredith is wicked but she just so fabulous. “Being young and beautiful is not a crime, you know” I live
I didn’t realize the counselor with the dark hair was Janice from Friends. It took me years to put that together. When I started watching friends regularly, I was like, oh my god
Can I say the British twin consistently got the short end of the stick? Yeah her putting the beds on the roof was wild but she was the one who was left with no clothes, got her cabin destroyed, had to get her EARS PIERCED by an 11 year old (while she agreed the switch wasn’t even her idea) and got ignored when she asked for help dealing with Meredith. And while the mom had an emotional moment with her other daughter, Dennis quaid was just like “cool” we he realized he had had his other twin this whole time. Thank God for the nanny tbh
I'm the first of twins and I always felt like that growing up watching the movie, so it was quite traumatizing for me to watch. I stopped watching the movie because of that, because it started to feel like the first twin is always overlooked, which in real life isn't always true, but it was better for me to stay off that movie before I started getting any funny negative ideas in my head whenever a parent of mine brushed me off. Holiday in the Sun with the Olsen twins was a great alternative
When Chessie says "almost as if you were..." and Annie's like "Almost as if I were _who_" and I'm just like, who said it was a 'who'? What if it was like "almost as if you were losing your memory", "almost as if you were starting to go through puberty", "almost as if you were abducted by aliens and probed and replaced with a changeling child" or something? I always felt like that conversation jumped a little bit.
This movie prevented me from getting my ears pierced for like at least ten years because it gave me such a terrible fear of piercings. 😭 And when I finally got them done at 18 I had to have them pierced THREE TIMES over a two year period because my body kept rejecting it. I also remember thinking that the twins were so much more grown up than me because they were almost twelve and I was not even double digits yet LOL.
As a kid I think I shipped the dad with Chessy. They were already raising that kid together, they bantered, they seemed a much better match than the dad and mom who got such a bizarre divorce and didn't speak for 11 years. This, amongst many other films of the 90s, featured divorced parents getting back together and everything being good. As a kid of divorced parents I knew that was a fantasy but it was still a very odd thing for me to see constantly in movies. I'm glad kids today get to see more options in movies and tv.

Thank you for the rant at the beginning about "we grew up watching movies, this is not our first time watching these movies," because it truly baffles me that people believe that those reactors have lived under a rock for their entire existence up into adulthood.
The story is actually an adaption of the hugely successful German childrens novel 'Das doppelte Lottchen' by Erich Kästner from 1949. There was a famous film adaption in 1950 in Germany as well. Its like canon over here haha. It had a very unusual family setting with divorced parents and a single mom and one of the twin girls with more 'boyish' character traits so it caused quite a stirr on its release. I read it when I was a child and I always found the parents decision to split up the twins unbelievable - but I guess these where different times in the 1940s and it might have been not so crazy back then after WW2, who knows! I just read that Kästner wrote the story as a movie script during the Nazi regime but was not allowed to work as a writer any longer so publishing was delayed til 1949 and he made a child novel out of it (a total novelty as well because it took its child protagonists seriously). So all in all: a classic!
I loved that book and the 1950 film soooo much (and his other books as well). It's super interesting to see the comparison and differences to the american versions. I just wish Kästner would get more credit for this concept internationally, since everyone assumes the american 1961 version is "the original".

OMG, THEY ARE SOOO SMALL!!!! It's so funny rewatching your childhood shows and movies and seeing how small the actors truly were. Shoot at that age they looked normal and eveyone else was either a baby or supper old😆
Okay but Meredith actually was not a villain. She was a publicist who made good money, who dated a man who lied to his daughter about not being a twin for 11 years and then finding out the person who made your wedding dress is his ex and then getting in the way of their relationship like GIRL
This movie really made me believe that I could have a secret lost twin somewhere in the world that I could meet at any time P.D Congrats on 100k guys!!!! This is only the start, the Popstars will continue to grow❤️
Ooh, so excited for this one! You simply must cover 'Freaky Friday' (2003), at some point, too. Ta. P.S. Love the channel. Your reactions never fail to put a smile on my face. 🧡
My favorite movie of all time!! It’s funny you mentioned bears because I completely forgot that they lured bear cubs into Meredith’s tent in the original movie until I rewatched as an adult and was like… she actually could have DIED. I hope you guys react to The Holiday at some point because Nancy Meyers really knows how to do a California/England life swap. And great timing that this was released the same day as Lindsay Lohan’s new movie on Netflix because I am ready for Lohanaissance!!
My parents got divorced when I was 4, got back together when I was 10 and broke up when I was 12. The second time hurt way more than the first (to me) but now they're both in nice relationships :)
lmaooooo so true about other reactors. There is one girl who started her channel saying she was a horror fan since she was young, but then magically it was her first time watching every single horror movie.
the part when meredith is riding in that tiny car , and that man said how evil she is reminds me of the scene in casper like the lady carrigan and dibbs for some reason and i could still qoute this movie lol
This is based on a book that is even stranger. It takes place in Europe and the one twin almost dies of an illness, on her deathbed, she begs for the parents to get back together. I kind of wish they would make the original version.
I literally laugh so much watching y’all 😭🤣. Rizzo waiting for the kiss on the head after the handshake & Benji kindly rejecting it after the first time is so me and my friend 🤣🤣
When I got the notification for this video I literally gasped because I’ve been waiting for this day for so long. You guys always make parent trap references in your videos and I had always wondered when you would make a parent trap reaction. So glad you guys decided to make one!
I Love this movie so so much! This was the first one I’ve seen. I didn’t even know this was a remake till a couple of years ago. Also apparently Lindsey was sneezed a lot during filming with the horses bc she’s allergic to them. I didn’t believe my mum when she told me that she isn’t an actual twin because I was like “then how are there two of them in the movie? There can only been two of them if there’s twins.” Only when I was 14 or 13 I realized/learned that my mum was actually telling the truth. Everyone in this did amazing and everyone who made this possible behind the scenes. Y’all are hilarious. Love the videos! You two do an amazing job!
the dvd version of this film i had didn’t have the explicit ear piercing scene and i found out it’s cause they made a second version without it cause too many kids were trying to pierce their own ears and they had to censor it 😭😭
Man, this reminded me that Dennis Quaid was my first ✨awakening✨😂 character was trash but he’s beautiful lmao . Love that Lisa Ann Walter is back on screen and just as great in Abbott elementary!
They also couldn't pull this switch if they were fraternal twins, unless they happened to resemble each other a lot facially. I mean, they more or less accidentally have this switch in _Twelfth Night,_ but you just have to roll with that.
As a mother of twin girls this movie is so infuriating!! I get so pissed watching it! The parents are ridiculous! I cant imagine ever spilting my girls up. No matter how annoyed i was with their dad I would never sepereate them! Also i had my twins at 26 so meredith saying she is 26 makes me laugh. Aint no way that women is 26! 😂 Anyways rant over 😂 it brings the nostalgia of childhood but also infuriates me as an adult 😂😂
What sort of parents would separate their twin children and never tell them about each other's existence? They never cared to meet their other child. I don't even know what my reaction would be if I were one of the girls. My relationship with them would probably never repair, and I would never trust them again.
Another idea for figuring out which is which for the black mail scene. Just have Samny tell them. He barks at Annie lol Your intro had me laughing so hard, I had to pause and let it out 😂 Yeah this is one of the Disney Remakes where they got it right. The others I love are Freaky Friday, and 101 Dalmations.
My best friend and I LOVED this movie as kids, we watched it a million times and thought the twins were so cool (and found Chessy and Martin absolutely hilarious). I found out through this reaction that I can still quote so many lines word-for-word lol. I can't be in a bad mood watching this, it's an absolute classic.
13:25 my mom was already grown and married by the time this movie came out, but when i first saw it when i was younger, she told me her and her friend pierced her ears like this, apple and all, when she was like 13 and made me promise to not pierce my ears like that just because i saw it in the movie 😭 her piercings never closed or anything, she still has em
I never noticed it when I was a kid, but you cannot make a wedding dress in two weeks. Also, the Concorde was a really fast plane, like going from New York to London in under three hours fast.
“We told them they’d get an extra cookie at lunch if they lied to the cops” The fact that that would probably work with literally any kid makes this so much funnier
When I was a kid I always wondered why the parents didn’t bring out the dog to figure out which twin was which! Like hellloooo But no, y’all went straight for, “Torture Cuppy and see who cries!!!!” I can’t 😂😂😂
Benji saying all the words is legit me when I watch my favorite comfort movies (and this is one of them!) hahah I love it! Would you ever watch Clueless, Cinderella Story or She's the Man on the channel? Just putting it out into the universe haha
this is such a comfort movie!! also dennis quaid was such a tv dad for me growing up!! have you guys ever seen the version of yours mine and ours with him in it?? a classic
I love that you did this movie! Such a classic. It's less known, but I have a feeling you'd enjoy My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Another family classic, emphasis on the family 😅
I laugh so hard whenever someone mentions tie dye girl, bc she was a lot of our awakenings seriously😂😂 but also bc she made a tiktok recently about it too😂😂😂
can't wait for this one; absolutely love this movie and it's gonna be great watching you guys do a commentary on it. the thought of this is definitely gonna help this day at work go by so much faster! thank you
what u guys said abt kids piercing their ears bc of this movie, i'm a natural redhead and i cut most of my hair off with craft scissors as a kid after watching this! 😭
Every time I watch this movie, I get so irritated at the parents like how do you not know the kids switch. The kids only had like a week or two to craft this idea they would not be able to get down the minute details of each other. Just because they’re twins doesn’t mean they they eat the same way, the same way all those little micro movements that we don’t think about the parents should’ve noticed.
I love that ya'll reacted (again + quote) this movie! It was my jam and inspo to be cool as a 2nd grader. And the scene where Hallie meets Natasha Richardson gets me teary
Can't believe they left 2 eleven year old girls in a cabin in the woods with a needle and matches 😂
😂😂 they wanted an “accident” to happen 😭

OMG, THEY ARE SOOO SMALL!!!! It's so funny rewatching your childhood shows and movies and seeing how small the actors truly were. Shoot at that age they looked normal and eveyone else was either a baby or supper old😆
Right!? 😂
22:39 “That was so powerful…Academy Award.”
Okay but Meredith actually was not a villain. She was a publicist who made good money, who dated a man who lied to his daughter about not being a twin for 11 years and then finding out the person who made your wedding dress is his ex and then getting in the way of their relationship like GIRL
Jesse and Martin getting together is the ultimate wlw and mlm solidarity ✊🏼
I was really happy when in the comments of another reaction I discovered a bunch of other people who had always had the headcanon that both were bi
LMMMAAAAAOOOOO I still think their marriage will last longer than the mom and dad
23:25 every time that chessi scene happens i cry.

I thought it had a stronger emotional impact than Sharon telling Verna the truth.
The number of times I’ve watched that is insane 😂 I hope you guys cover the original Cheaper by the Dozen too someday
Oh we love cheaper by the dozen!!
This movie really made me believe that I could have a secret lost twin somewhere in the world that I could meet at any time
P.D Congrats on 100k guys!!!!
This is only the start, the Popstars will continue to grow❤️
😂😂 I wanted to meet a twin too!
And thank you!!
I've seen the tie dye girl stitch someone's video on tiktok with them also saying the same thing haha
😂😂
Ooh, so excited for this one! You simply must cover 'Freaky Friday' (2003), at some point, too. Ta. P.S. Love the channel. Your reactions never fail to put a smile on my face. 🧡
We love that movie, we’ll definitely watch at some point!! Glad you’re watching with us 🥰
Yess fully agree I grew up with that movie
My favorite movie of all time!! It’s funny you mentioned bears because I completely forgot that they lured bear cubs into Meredith’s tent in the original movie until I rewatched as an adult and was like… she actually could have DIED.
I hope you guys react to The Holiday at some point because Nancy Meyers really knows how to do a California/England life swap. And great timing that this was released the same day as Lindsay Lohan’s new movie on Netflix because I am ready for Lohanaissance!!
Omg Bears in the tent!!? 😱
Could’ve turned into The Revenant in a different movie. 🐻
My parents got divorced when I was 4, got back together when I was 10 and broke up when I was 12. The second time hurt way more than the first (to me) but now they're both in nice relationships :)
I’m sorry, good that they’re happy now though
RIP Natasha Richardson you were truly a gifted comedienne. She’s absolutely amazing in ‘Wild Child’.
❤️❤️❤️💔
the amount of times i rewind to 1)watch Rizzo break out laughing at Benjis comments 2)watch Benji realize Rizzo's started crying :D
😁😁
lmaooooo so true about other reactors. There is one girl who started her channel saying she was a horror fan since she was young, but then magically it was her first time watching every single horror movie.
😅😅
Girl…🙄
the part when meredith is riding in that tiny car , and that man said how evil she is reminds me of the scene in casper like the lady carrigan and dibbs for some reason and i could still qoute this movie lol
This is based on a book that is even stranger. It takes place in Europe and the one twin almost dies of an illness, on her deathbed, she begs for the parents to get back together. I kind of wish they would make the original version.
Oooh that’s so different lol
I literally laugh so much watching y’all 😭🤣. Rizzo waiting for the kiss on the head after the handshake & Benji kindly rejecting it after the first time is so me and my friend 🤣🤣
Whnn I became older than Meredith was a day where life felt weird 🙃
Seems wrong lol
Yes, the lost boy at camp is Lindsey’s little brother.
Idk how I never knew that!
When I got the notification for this video I literally gasped because I’ve been waiting for this day for so long. You guys always make parent trap references in your videos and I had always wondered when you would make a parent trap reaction. So glad you guys decided to make one!
Right!!? This is wayy overdue! Lol
"why did you do this to your kids" hits lol
We need an "It Takes Two" movie reaction
Agreed!! AT AN INSTANT LOL
😂😂 thank you!
Fingers crossed this is the video that finally gets you guys over 100k. Nostalgia, don't fail us now!
Yesss!!
the dvd version of this film i had didn’t have the explicit ear piercing scene and i found out it’s cause they made a second version without it cause too many kids were trying to pierce their own ears and they had to censor it 😭😭
Man, this reminded me that Dennis Quaid was my first ✨awakening✨😂 character was trash but he’s beautiful lmao .
Anyways rant over 😂 it brings the nostalgia of childhood but also infuriates me as an adult 😂😂
😂😂😂
What sort of parents would separate their twin children and never tell them about each other's existence? They never cared to meet their other child. I don't even know what my reaction would be if I were one of the girls. My relationship with them would probably never repair, and I would never trust them again.
Exactly!!
To answer your piercing question... yes I did pierce both of my own ears cause of this movie using the same technique. 🤣😭
😂😂 I hope it went well
Literally me😂 it went fine though!
@@PinkPopcast Wouldn’t recommend to my future kid but I still have both my ears 🤣🤣🤣
Another idea for figuring out which is which for the black mail scene. Just have Samny tell them. He barks at Annie lol Your intro had me laughing so hard, I had to pause and let it out 😂
Yeah this is one of the Disney Remakes where they got it right. The others I love are Freaky Friday, and 101 Dalmations.
Clever idea!!? Less cruel than killing Cuppy
Oh that's another really good idea! I thought they should have had the mum start speaking French and see which twin could understand her.
It's Messed Up To Kno That They Separated Them With No Plans Of Them Ever Knowing Each Other Existed
😭😭😭
I never noticed it when I was a kid, but you cannot make a wedding dress in two weeks. Also, the Concorde was a really fast plane, like going from New York to London in under three hours fast.
As someone who’s parents reconciled after 2 decades, it lasted about two months 😂
1. i love how benji went full bible to try and solve the "which one's which" problem
2. there's an often memed pilots' speed running community lmao
😂😂
I felt that watching back this film and realizing I was older than Meredith Blake… but still look like a child in comparison 😂
I can't wait til you guys reach 100k subscribers! You guys deserve it so much;)
Thank you 🙌🙌
The Parent Trap and It Takes Two were watched on repeat as a kid
This girl in the tie dye shirt did in fact make me feel some type of way as a little children lol
Apparently the camp counselors were trained the same place as the ones who were supposed to watch Jason at Camp Crystal Lake.
“We told them they’d get an extra cookie at lunch if they lied to the cops”
The fact that that would probably work with literally any kid makes this so much funnier
😭😭
The little pipsqueak who threatened to fight Hallie is the director's daughter.
No way!? 😂
@@PinkPopcast Her name is Hallie Meyers-Shyer and she's credited as Lindsay.
I never realised Kat Graham was in that movie omg
It’s so random lol
When I was a kid I always wondered why the parents didn’t bring out the dog to figure out which twin was which! Like hellloooo
But no, y’all went straight for, “Torture Cuppy and see who cries!!!!” I can’t 😂😂😂
Benji saying all the words is legit me when I watch my favorite comfort movies (and this is one of them!) hahah I love it! Would you ever watch Clueless, Cinderella Story or She's the Man on the channel? Just putting it out into the universe haha
Omg such great movies!!
Fun fact Meredith’s mom Vicky played “Meredith” “Vicky” in the original Parent Trap in 1961
this is such a comfort movie!! also dennis quaid was such a tv dad for me growing up!! have you guys ever seen the version of yours mine and ours with him in it?? a classic
Yepp :))
I love that you did this movie! Such a classic. It's less known, but I have a feeling you'd enjoy My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Another family classic, emphasis on the family 😅
I laugh so hard whenever someone mentions tie dye girl, bc she was a lot of our awakenings seriously😂😂 but also bc she made a tiktok recently about it too😂😂😂
😂😂😂 Amazing!
can't wait for this one; absolutely love this movie and it's gonna be great watching you guys do a commentary on it. the thought of this is definitely gonna help this day at work go by so much faster! thank you
🥰❤️
I remember reading that Natasha Richardson’s (she plays the mom) sons watch The Parent Trap whenever they miss her. 🥺
3:29 Oh-my- godd, never realized that´s Janice from Friends 🤣
what u guys said abt kids piercing their ears bc of this movie, i'm a natural redhead and i cut most of my hair off with craft scissors as a kid after watching this! 😭
😂😂😂
CONGRATS ON 100k!
Literally started watching you guys a day ago and i have been binge watching you guys💚💗
🥰🥰
Every time I watch this movie, I get so irritated at the parents like how do you not know the kids switch. The kids only had like a week or two to craft this idea they would not be able to get down the minute details of each other. Just because they’re twins doesn’t mean they they eat the same way, the same way all those little micro movements that we don’t think about the parents should’ve noticed.
I love that ya'll reacted (again + quote) this movie! It was my jam and inspo to be cool as a 2nd grader. And the scene where Hallie meets Natasha Richardson gets me teary
8:22 The pointing Counselor is JANICE From Friends and Odile from Barbie of Swan Lake! 😂
