*Episode 5:* This epiosde had so many Easter eggs. In the skyline, you can see Avengers Tower, but instead of Stark or the Avengers logo, there's a sign that says "Qeng." In the comics, Tony sells the old Avengers Tower to Qeng Enterprises, owned by Mr. Gryphon who just so happens to be a version of Kang the Conqueror. A glitch in the time stream caused Kang the Conqueror to be split apart into different versions of himself. One of these versions became trapped in the early 21st century. Unwilling to wait for two thousand years to catch up with his original era, this Nathaniel Richards (Kang) decided to create his own dynasty in this time period under the alias of "Mister Gryphon" a CEO Business man. A classic UFO can be seen in the background, possibly referencing the Roswell incident. In the comics, the Roswell crash in 1947 was actually a Skrull ship that went down just outside the small town of Roswell, New Mexico. Nearby, there’s a plane that looks like a Focke-Wulf Triebflügel, a real experimental German aircraft from WWII. In the MCU, Hydra used this design, and it’s the same plane the Red Skull escape in during the factory attack. You can spot a giant version of Yellowjacket’s helmet from Ant-Man (2015). We also see the infamous Thanos Copter, pulled straight from the comics. In a bizarre storyline, Thanos flies around in a helicopter trying to steal the Cosmic Cube (aka the Tesseract), only to get thrown in jail by the police. It's a "non canonical" story aimed towards kids. Behind Classic Loki, there’s a S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, but with a Hydra logo instead. This could hint at a timeline where Captain America never stopped Hydra’s plan in The Winter Soldier (2014). Another wild reference appears in the form of the USS Eldridge. This ties into the “Philadelphia Experiment,” a conspiracy theory claiming the ship was rendered invisible in 1983 or traveled to another reality. *Episode 6:* Moving on to Episode 6, Jonathan Majors plays a variant of Kang, known as He Who Remains, a character from the comics who was the final director of the TVA, residing at the Citadel at the End of Time. However, in the MCU, he is re-imagined as a variant of Kang. Nathaniel Richards was born in the 30th century of Earth-6311, a reality often called "Other Earth" or "Earth Without a Dark Age." Unlike Earth-616 (Mainline Universe), this world advanced without setbacks, developing highly sophisticated technology. As a descendant of Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), Nathaniel eventually discovered time travel, setting him on a path that led to multiple incarnations throughout history, including Rama-Tut, the Scarlet Centurion, Immortus, and ultimately Kang the Conqueror. In Fantastic Four #19 (October 1963), the first appearance of Rama-Tut, the Fantastic Four were sent back in time to ancient Egypt, where they eventually discovered his true identity. Nathaniel Richards had traveled back in time to Earth-616 using a ship designed to resemble the Egyptian Sphinx, crash-landing in Egypt and establishing himself as Rama-Tut. The Fantastic Four defeated him and forced him to flee back to his original timeline, leading to his next appearance as Kang the Conqueror in The Avengers #8 (September 1964). Since there are infinite variants of Kang who can manipulate time and the multiverse, He Who Remains, At least the version featured in the MCU created the TVA to prevent timelines where Nathaniel Richards becomes Kang, stopping his variants from rising and threatening the multiverse. With all safeguards removed, the Sacred Timeline (Mainline MCU) is now fully exposed, allowing the multiverse to be completely unleashed. Allowing for much larger deviations and possibilities exist. This sets up What If…?, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and more.
I think you have a better understanding of the Loki/Sylvie dynamic than anyone else I've seen the reactions of. Maybe someone of all the reactions spoke of it, but I don't remember anymore.
Marvel recently revamped the TVA in the comics to match how it looks in Loki, with the same characters, actor likenesses, and a bunch of references to the show's events. This just happened with TVA #1, which dropped on December 18, 2024, as the start of a five-issue series diving into this new direction. From now on, the TVA from Loki is basically the official TVA across all of Marvel, across movies, games, shows, and comics. Since it exists outside the multiverse, it kinda makes sense that there would only be one version of the TVA. But honestly, it’s just way more interesting than the old comic version, both in design and how the characters are handled. But since you haven't watched Loki Season 2 yet, you might wanna hold off on reading these comics. They take place after the finale and bring up some major plot points, since it exists within a post Season 2 TVA.
Jonathan Major's performance was ...something to digest for me, too, on first watch but it's honestly grown on me. Personally, I really like how this season resolves and, hard as it may be to believe, season 2 might actually be even better... Hope you enjoy!
Loved your reaction. To be honest, it took quite a while for Jonathan Major's characterization choices to grow on me, too. Let's see, the title of episode 5 (Journey into Mystery) refers to the title of the Marvel comic where Thor and Loki first appeared in 1962 a couple of issues apart (coincidentally the same year I first appeared, LOL). The elder Loki was referred to as Classic Loki in the series because he wore the same outfit that Loki had in the comic back in the 60s, which made the credit scene in episode 4 quite the cliffhanger for a comic nerd like me. He Who Remains was recognized by comic lovers as Kang The Conqueror, an arch-villain from the comics. This is why one of the many names he listed for himself was a conqueror.
The Loki series is a departure of what the TVA is in the comics. You should look at it as a metaphor for the Marvel Editorial Department but in the comics world. The TVA was created in the comics to keep the stories together and "prune" errors in the timeline or dropped comic books or ideas. In the comics there have been 7 versions of the Marvel Universe and it is the TVA's responsibility to take the information in one universe and pass it to the next. He Who Remains is the last analyst of the TVA responsible for moving the information after the death of the universe. This is a way for Marvel to restart their comic stories and update them for a new generation of readers. The Loki show changes things a bit to make the TVA's job in keeping the timeline moving without problems. He Who Remains is Kang or a variant of Kang in the MCU. His job here is to prevent timelines that create a version of him that will destroy all reality. The writers frame the "free will" argument badly but its for pop culture so it is ok. In philosophy we question if we actually have free will or if it is an illusion. If there is a prime mover, a god, a controller or He Who Remains that decides what the path of our lives is then that is the only being with free will. The rest of us are following our designed paths. Loki is following his/her path. In every universe and every version Loki leads to the same conclusion: "chaos". The second season will ask the question how does that chaos lead to order?
Hey, Evie! I highly recommend you CONTINUE ON WITH SEASON 2! What happens sets up EVERYTHING THAT FOLLOWS in Phases 4 and 5! This series sets up the MULTIVERSE SAGA. Episode 4: The first mention of vampires in the MCU! The return of Lady Sif! In Norse myth, Loki shaved her bald! Lol. The delectable Jaimie Alexander's unremarked departure from the MCU for "Blindspot" was criminal and I hoped that this heralded her survival of Ragnarok. However, what they had in store for her was beyond insulting to the character and actress. What a shame! Episode 5: The episode's title, "Journey Into Mystery", is the name of the anthology comic that first featured Thor's adventures before he graduated to his own title. Easter Egg hunt in the Void! -- the lighthouse of Alexandria -- Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum -- Avengers Tower under different ownership -- the 'Mary Celeste' -- a flying saucer -- Red Skull's gyro-jet -- half-buried Easter Island-sized busts -- giant Yellowjacket's helmet -- Thanos 'copter -- Mjolnir -- Frog Thor aka Throg in a jar from the famous Walt Simonson story rooted in actual myth -- Polybius arcade machine -- Hi-C Ecto-Cooler juice box -- the Sphinx -- USS Eldridge from the Philadelphia experiment -- Ronan's 'Dark Aster' -- a massive bust of The Living Tribunal -- a SHIELD helicarrier Cadidate Loki and Kid Loki are both from the comics! Episode 6: We open by hitching a ride on the Sacred Timeline to the Temple at the End of Time! Miss Minutes offers a Faustian bargain to the Lokis but the pair refuse a SCRIPTED 'best of all possible worlds'! Enter JONATHAN MAJORS in IMMORTUS-mode as 'He Who Remains' chewing the apple of knowledge and all the scenery with it! Lol. IMMORTUS tells the tale of 31st-century scientist NATHANIEL RICHARDS, the Council of Kangs, the belligerence of KANG, the Multiversal War, how Alioth ended it and the reason bad things happen to good people. He offers the keys to the kingdom to the Loki duo. The script runs out, the threshold is crossed, the timeline begins to branch with possibilities and Immortus experiences the terrifying thrill of NOT KNOWING what comes next. Mobius doesn't recognize Loki and mistakes him for a rattled analyst! It's 'A SOUND OF THUNDER' by Ray Bradbury! The world has already been irrevocably altered! An imposing statue of KANG THE CONQUEROR overlooks the TVA! The Multiverse of Madness, the Spider-verse, What Ifs, Quantumania and Secret Wars have all begun!
Marianne Faithful died today. You should listen to her song "As Tears Go By" written by her then four year boyfriend Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Its a great song.
You just like the ending. It's not enough to make up for how boring the season was and how there was absolutely nothing in it to stimulate the mind. It was entirely made up hand waving that has no basis in reality or any connection to any other films. They also changed the first season to where He Who Remains knew what was to happen after crossing the threshold.
Do they? The people who hate all the Marvel stuff post Endgame... or those who have hated all Marvel stuff all along or since the first Avengers movie... most of them never see the stuff they claim to hate. They either just don't even care to give it a chance and resent the enormous popularity of the franchise... or... they may have at one point been a fan but then at some point got sucked into the corner of RUclips the talks incessantly about Marvel being woke and has been predicting Marvel and Disney's imminent demise every day (because it gets clicks; or they're delusional) for the past decade. The summarize each show or movie that comes out with a few memes that they think sum up how bad and how woke it is... then go to their echo chambers where everyone talks about how much they suck but have no clue what they're talking about.
This last episode was so exciting for me to watch because I knew who Kang the Conqueror was already and I was half expecting it and it set up the rest of the Multiverse Saga so well I was just busting with anticipation.... such a pity that it kind of went off the rails... what with Jonathan Majors legal troubles... and the somewhat underwhelming Quantumania... I still wish that they had stuck it out and finished the arc. I honestly don't care what Majors or any other actor does in their personal lives... let the court system deal with them, it's none of my business. As long as they aren't incarcerated they should still be able to continue working. And, even though I agree that Quantumania failed to meet expectations, and Multiverse of Madness could have possibly been better (but was still good).... on the other hand... No Way Home was amazing, Deadpool 3 was amazing, Loki season 2 was amazing... I really wanted to see this finale paid off. :-/ now it probably never will be. At least not properly and completely. I dunno. Russo Brothers can probably make it work if anyone out there can. And I'm looking forward to the Fantastic Four, Doomsday, and Secret Wars stuff.... and then on to the future of the Mutants saga...
Hello Evie, nice to see you!😊 You look lovely in blue!😉 So, you are not a fan of "He Who Remains"? Great reactions to the second half of season one, Evie!!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Not spoiling anything, but I think that you don't need to wait to start season 2. We have reached the multivers with killing He who remains. It is done, so everything happening is on a branch of a new timeline, or not. Me, I would hate to forget all about the first season, watch other stuff and then return. I would rather take this momenturm und watch Loki Season 2. I love Jet skies, what can I say....
Loki season 1 was great, season 2 is my favorite within the Marvel shows to date! Glad you are checking these out, so good!

Classic Loki has been away from his home Asgard for countless thousands of years... can still conjure it perfectly...
You are insane. Jonathan Majors' performance was amazing.
I really liked it. Went to show how long he's been truly alone for. Shame JM was effectively fired by Disney.
