I watched 1883 during a dark time in my life. Elsa's attitude, her enthusiasm for life and free spirit helped me through it. This show is dear to my heart because of it.
Hi Rob, I watched 1883 and it threw me two/three days of my socks. Never had a movie/serie hit me so hard. Took me some days to get back to my feet and start smiling again. Tears cleanse the soul.....
Same ! I had gotten married and had moved away from home. My grandparents health starting going downhill after I moved. It was so hard. This show began right around that time.
If you love this you would love Lonesome Dove the mini series. The sequels and tv shows that followed aren't as good but the first original series is one of the best westerns ever made and follows a similar story as this.
1883 is an absolute masterpiece. Yellowstone is fun to watch as a silly TV show, but 1883 is so visceral and shows that side of life people tend to shy away from.
That Dad moment at the end 🤣😂 as a father of 4, one girl, I KNEW exactly what was said without saying a word.....i was ROLLING when that happened and my wife just looked at me and said "you've done that, whats the deal"....lol. all i could do tell her to talk to her dad and see how many times HE had to that she never knew lol.
This show is just absolutely amazing The narration is such a wonderful detail. This show 1883 has some of the best writing ever on TV. 😊❤ Lastly. Yes I admire Elsa too. ❤❤❤
20:45 I actually love this too. At first babies don't understand what's going on and they think you and them are one body, one being. With age they see you as an extension of themselves, and then they see you as "mom", you're not a human or a woman, you're mom. Around their teenage years is when they realize you had a life before them, with all that implies
The Wilderness was a horrible Civil War battle. Union troops were trying to flank the Confederates but the Confederates got ahead of them and blocked them in a heavily wooded area. So the fighting was along open roads and very difficult wooden terrain. To make things even worse, the forest caught fire so hundreds of wounded men burned alive.
@@Rambaldichick Wrong war mate, his was the British vs French war, of some date before Britain B decided they didn't like tea. Been so many wars against the frogs we've won I can't remember the dates and that's why French history books are so full of blank pages, as only victors write history.
Hi Steven & Nikki, I have missed you two! I knew you’d love this series. It’s phenomenal, and so far you’re nailing every sweet and bittersweet part. Can’t wait for your reaction to the later episodes!!!❤😅
Years ago there was a western miniseries called Centennial. One thread followed a young Amish couple from Pennsylvania. They reached St. Louis in good shape, but their trail guide forced them to sell their horses and buy oxen, just the reverse of here. In Colorado the wife died from a rattlesnake bite. The husband folded up and stayed where she died. In the end Indians helped him settle in and he founded a trading post that became the town of Centennial.
It always surprises me that are ancestors survived lol. Have you ever seen the info graphic of the families that survived coming over on the Mayflower? ❤ the way you both looked at each other at the same time ❤
22:02 Shea is talking about the Battle of the Wilderness, May 5th to 7th, 1864, in Virginia west of Fredericksburg. Over 28,000 casualties. Bloody, vicious fighting with no clear victor.
Remember that Elsa was Veronica on Young Sheldon? Her mom was dating a bad guy who came to pick her up. George asked her if she wanted to go with him. She whispered, "No, Sir." George handled it like a real Dad.
I’ve been waiting for you two to watch this. In my opinion it’s the best thing that has come from the Yellowstone universe. It’s a Sheridan Masterpiece. I’m eagerly awaiting the reaction from you, as parents, to the end of episode 5 and the intro to episode 6. MAJOR turning point for the show and I know there will be tears!
I grew up around horses, and while in general horses will try not to step on you…they are big powerful animals and if you don’t respect that you can get really hurt. That look James gives Enis is gold. “Goddamn boy….”
This series is top notch, all the way up with Lonesome Dove. There ain't too many "modern" western series that is so captivating. Deadwood and Hell On Wheels comes to mind. Brutal, sad and beautiful, for me it is the best one in the Yellowstone universe.
Damn 1883 wow whatca series.....I will definitely watch the rest of this franchise now....Sam Elliot is a real man, a great actor too, plus great mustache!😢❤

Horse bites are no joke. I took a First Aid and CPR class in college. The textbooks had graphic photos of horse bites. They looked like someone scooped some flesh out with an ice cream scooper. Often times they bite faces.

Only thing about the river crossing, that really irritates me, Sheridan is from Texas, I grew up in west Texas, and should have been known with those cowboys, is in the old days you move the Ramada back and forth several times then push the wagons, then the ganado The caballo have wide flat hooves that pack down the mud, which will basically make it a hard trail for the wagons. They did get it right by saying the cattle will make it soup because they have cloved feet, which will dig in and tear up the mud and basically make it really hard to cross. I did that too. It's quite a different experience because at least on my side you look at the modern Duttons in a poorer way. The Yellowstone universe becomes this generational story about a family who as it often happens when wealth and influence are acumulated begins to lose themselves and their morals through the centuries. And the ending of Yellowstone with the land coming back to the natives and Elsa narrating again feels like such a powerful redemptive moment.
@theunknownuser9609 you get the whole entire generational story and even in the new yellowstone you will see the graves of generational duttons and really understand the whole story.... I'm so excited for the continuation of 1923 in feb. I'm so excited I mean really stoked lol

You will need to watch, “land man”. It’s another Sheridan series starring Billy Bob Thorton
"oregon trail" was a computer game we played in school. This show reminded me of it.

Amazing Rob. I wish u the best
1883 is the best thing Taylor Sheridan has done so far in my opinion. Better than Yellowstone and the rest. 1923 also top tier.
The scenery, and that narration, are like poetry. I could watch this series over and over again.
If you love this you would love Lonesome Dove the mini series. The sequels and tv shows that followed aren't as good but the first original series is one of the best westerns ever made and follows a similar story as this.
"Carelessness is contagious." My dad says the same thing. The older I get, the more I agree with him.
Same with Bad Luck... It seems like some people spread it.
I got the tears even when I hear Elsas voice. Her Voice is so angelic. My heart broke at the Yellowstone finale, hearing her again
1883 is an absolute masterpiece. Yellowstone is fun to watch as a silly TV show, but 1883 is so visceral and shows that side of life people tend to shy away from.
"He didn't make it for us," that line at the end of this episode, is one of my favorite lines in the whole series. Profound.

Enis making jokes with Dutton makes sense. Elsa is a risk taker, it makes sense she would like Enis as a risk taker too.
I have seriously lost count of how many times I have watched, paused, rewound and watched again during these 3 (only 3??) episodes. This is excellent.
No same here! lol each episode is like a movie! It’s pure quality story telling. (This is one of the best westerns) in my opinion
