@purplefoxess8230 oh I'm sure the Fire Nation would have cared, especially with Sozin. With Ozai you at least have Zuko ascending to the throne to help mitigate things, and even then he had a group of people who wanted Ozai _back_
Aang telling Toph to just ditch her parents is a little detail that actually makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Remember, Air Nomads aren't raised by parents, they never know their parents. Instead they're raised by the adult Nomads around them, and even then they are always free to go wherever they want in the world. That's why Aang had friends in every nation, was familiar with Air Temples in every part of the world, and knew about fun regional activities like penguin sledding and elephant koi surfing. Anytime he got bored he could just hop on Appa and go somewhere else. To him the idea of staying in one place because of two adults that you don't seem to like probably seems insane.
I think Danny really nailed it when he talked about Toph's blindness. One thing I can't stand is when a blind character can "see" because of some kind of magic or power. So the fact that Toph can feel/sense the world around her in order to "see" how things/people move is really creative. I also like how she's not completely op when up against someone who can fly or someone who isn't an earth bender. It makes her feel realistic (or, as realistic as a fantasy show can get).
I think the other cool thing about her, too, if they show in multiple instances throughout the show how her blindness does affect her not just in her emotional feelings, but also in the sense of putting her in multiple situations where she is truly blind, because she can’t earth bend. It’s a really really well done and grounded way of having a disabled character still be very competent, but also have their disability still be an important part of their functionality as a person like you said, and like Danny says a lot of times we see these ““ disable characters and shows, but they’re not because hoops they have super powers, so it doesn’t matter.
I also like that her earth sensing isn't actually vision or vision-like either, she doesn't "see" auras or sound or whatever. It's just felt through touch, and she doesn't even turn her head to "look". I just like that the sensing power she has isn't a sight replacement per say, it's something different with it's own pros and cons
I think the best me most under appreciated part of Tophs vision is she can feel people’s emotions if she is focused and well… it’s kinda heart breaking at one point during a fire nation fight in the sky because it’s Toph and Soka in the air with Toph only able to see Soka due to him holding her hand as she is dangling in the air and he says something to calm her down but NA she can feel he is afraid meaning to her the world is dark and the only thing she can feel is the wind hitting her and Soka afraid but trying to save her and himself from the Fire nation

Aang being like "Why stay here where you're not happy?" makes sense in a way, because he was raised to be a nomad by monks, and he didn't have the traditional parents a lot of people have. He was raised to someday leave the temple and travel from place to place, would make sense he might not fully comprehend why it might be so hard for people to leave where they are.
To be fair about Aang's whole "Why don't you just leave?" remark, he probably still doesn't have a great understanding of parent/child relationships. Air Nomads don't live with their parents, and most of the people Aang's met have parents that are either absent or dead. It's why I stand by him accidentally becoming a neglectful parent. One this I really love about Toph in the future seasons- is her attitude. She is the brattiest, sassiest kid- because she is a kid. She reminds us that this is a group of 11-16 year olds literally trying to end a war. She’s sarcastic and plays pranks, shes also adventurous and blunt but also kind and funny. She’s my favourite character in the whole show
Honestly I don't think he did, Roku wasnt very good at the Avatar state and let's be honest if KYOSHI was as present in Roku life as Roku is with Aang... Roku would've INSTANTLY killed Sozin then and there
They can just straight up ignore the advice its still just advice but yah thats gotta be grating for roku just repeatedly like “hey roku you should try murder it solves all the problems”
Water Tribe money and Earth Kingdom money is pretty much the same thing, if both use silver and copper pieces of similar weight. There may be a bit more upfront cost for foreign nations if they need to find other nation people to use it on or pay to melt them down, but silver is silver, whatever the nation.
4:36 Actually it’s kinda funny how so many people know what Ang looks like, enough to make a statue of him. And they didn’t just use someone already known like Yang Chen. Considering that most people think that Ang’s avatar is dead. 9:55 Loved this bit. Kind of wild Ang is so worried about what people think of him. When he’s supposed to save the entire world, yet playmates to one village full of fanatics to a warmongering conquer. 11:42 Some may find it strange that Ang found his sass despite him being so altruistic. But personally I love it. Firstly. These people are basically a much less successful fire nation. There’s no difference between what the fire nation did starting with Sosen. And what Chin was trying to do. Add in that there blaming all there faults on the Avatar, making them so petty. And that just makes them worse. Secondly. Given how slanted and unbelievably biased they’ve been with this Kangaroo court, I wouldn’t put it past them for one second after Ang saves them to be. “Oh avatar, thank you for saving us…. Well into the boiling oil you go!” 14:37 Really helps that The Bolder is voiced by WWE legend Mick Foley. 17:17 Kind of can’t help but wonder how Toph would be able to fight against a fire bender that uses the ability that basically allows them to fly by using fire jets on your hands and feet. If she’d still be able to detect them somehow, or if she’s be completely blind like when ang uses his airbending. 15:57 And there she is! One of, if not, the best character of the series! Honestly at the end of this episode I don’t know which is wilder. The fact that Toph’s relationship with team Avatar starts with her blatantly lying to them about her Father’s sudden change of heart. Or the fact that out of all the people her rich and influential father could have chosen to go after his daughter. He chooses said taekwondo instructor, and the man who literally just tried to abduct and ransoms her!
"Blood, Blockade, Battlefront" is right up Danny's alley to react to. A hidden gem of an anime with spectacular animation, characters, with a great dub. He'll have a blast making jokes and skits
Honestly, the part where Aang suggests Toph just leaves is actually very interesting because it subtly showcases the difference in culture. The air nomads were nomads, Aang constantly talks about how he travelled the world all the time despite being so young. Everyone close to Aang's age that he knows was either perfectly happy in their home like Bumi or are actively travelling like Katara, Sokka, and even Zuko. Of course, Aang's knee-jerk reaction to hearing someone close to his age is unhappy with their current residence would be asking why they don't just leave. This is also a great metaphor/foreshadowing of Aang's inability to do earthbending because of his airbender mindset. Air is free and constantly in motion, while earth is heavy and stuck in place unless something else actively moves it.
I really enjoy how toph grew to be the opposite of her parents, and as far as we know she never reconciles with them. It's actually nice to see representation of parents who don't mend their ways, who never get better and the show accepts that toph going no contact is what's right for her.
Your hair reminds me of Brendon Fraser and journey to the center of the Earth, which is a compliment because I love that movie and I love Brendan Fraser's look in that movie
When you mentioned the limits of Tophs abilities and used fire bending as an example it's important to note that Uncle Iroh mentioned how fire benders use their abilities. It's not just a static movement, also, her being able to see the tree that isn't moving, kind of deflates the argument a bit. An d I love the little detail of her pointing out the ants that she can see but Aang couldn't find them.
Yeah that made me feel like he didn't fully understand what her ability is. She reads vibrations, so even if a thing isn't moving on it's own she can send out her own vibrations by stomping and just read what those vibrations travel through. Not to mention that every bending style has it's own stances and forms that usually need to be moved through to channel the bending in battle, so while she wouldn't see the actual attack she could still feel their bodies twisting/moving in her direction (with the exception of people approaching through flight of course, but then she could potentially be able to hear them) and at least know to throw up a shield of rock or something
She sees with Earth bending that only goes through the rocks. The tree roots would be a "shadow" where she can't sense anything with her earth bending.
22:47 oh my goodness, how did i never realize this before. THE REASON WHY TOPH IS CRYING IS BECAUSE SHE KNOWS HE'S LYING. Im not sure if this is ground breaking revelation, or if im just slow as cement, but this rocked my world.
Your hair always looks great, but your lil antennas are cute🥰 And one of your best jokes was when you said “Let her have it Sokka” and he just said her hair loopies and you said “Alright I’ll tag in, YOUR MOTHER!” So glad Toph has finally joined the gang, I loved watching the team grow and seeing how dynamics shifted with everyone
I was hoping to see your comments on how sassy Toph is towards The Boulder before hilariously humiliating him but i wasn’t disappointed, you managed to make me cry with laughter 😂
It took me way too long to realise the fire nation wrestler is just the heel (i think thats the term?), like the wrestler who's wrestling persona is specifically designed to be hated
Late reply but you're right, he plays the foreign heel character. Look a guy called the Iron Sheik for a similar character. That whole episode is a love letter to pro wrestling. The Boulder is actually voiced by wrestling legend Mick Foley.
I think the dialogue at 18:37 proves what we've all been debating for a hot minute - people in universe cannot see air attacks, they're only animated for us to see. I'm sure they can see some of them the way we can occasionally see like, heat shimmers in the air, or feel them obviously, but from The Boulder's comments here, I think it's clear they don't actually SEE the wave of air.
9:169:4210:05 Are SO funny, peak Danny humor And also at 20:19 Aang probably is baffled why Toph hasn’t left yet because he grew up with Nomads who traveled the world alone starting as children.
Honestly, being raised as a nomad by a community of monks (no direct family/parents relationship) him asking top why she doesn’t leave actually makes perfect sense because that is probably pretty normal for a tribe of nomads.
Yooo great lineup indeed! These always make my day. Thanks! Edit: HOLy crap "That's fine I'll tag in- HER MOTHER!" Look ok it was unexpected but may I say - best yo momma joke I've heard in a long while, lol.
The accent the fire nation guy is using is intended to be a satirical depiction of Nikolai Volkoff of the WWE. He used to begin all of his matches with singing the Russian national anthem. I guess it’s their way of paying homage to the golden era wrestling. Which they do a marvelous job in this episode and one of the things that make this such a great show. The way they are able to tell stories while infusing pop culture phenomena, I find to be incredible…
I appreciate this context, because without it I thought he was holding up merchandise from an anime I've never seen and offering a human soul in exchange for goods.
3:00 “we get no yangchen worshippers” - In season 3 in the Western Airtemple, we actually see statues of Yangchen because she was celebrated to be an amazing avatar! Sort of like Kyoshi on Kyoshi Island.
You know what I love? That Danny says the thing that when blind characters appear they have like sonar vision, and then I remembered the Ember Island Players and freaking Toph’s character freaking screams at people and they’re like: there I got a pretty good look at you! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I love that there are several "This is such a good bit" jokes with no mention of Aang willingly wearing the stockade and just stepping out of it whenever he pleases.
I quite literally had to take a second to listen really hard when you were dubbing a joke over Sokka because it's been maybe a decade and a half (goddamn I feel old saying that) since I last watched AtLA and you did a BANG UP IMPRESSION.
21:18 just reminded me that there are overlaps in bending like for earth and air there's sand and dust bending, water and air is cold breeze, fire and water is steam, fire and air is smoke. fire and earth is lava, then water and earth is mud
Ya know, after seeing how that town's "Just Us" system works.....I wonder how many of those prisoners they have locked up deserve to be there....them being innocent would even make a ton of sense considering how wholesome they are XD.
the handsome Anime commentator has returned! I like it when you go on a deep dive of the possibilities or restrictions placed within the Lore. Good work. BTW is this a Video edited by Josh? Good Job👍☺
17:40 OK but can we talk about how much of a genius toff is I mean she is able to fight like several master benders without seeing the element fly at her and still be able to block and attack back meaning she has had to have memorized almost all of the bending moves and have such a reaction time that she is able to calculate where and what the bending will do/land and how to counter or block and then find a opening and attack all in like seconds if not less
I believe fire nation man was a reference to Nikolai Volkoff, a famous wrestler from the 70s and 80s. His bit was that he was super loyal to russia (ussr) and sang the anthem, which is similar to the fire nation "anthem". He was played up to be a villain to add to the drama of the show. Thats why fire nation man has a russian anthem and is booed at. I'm surprised I haven’t seen any other comments about this.
I just realized, besides the episode where Sokka goes fishing, the only other episode that actually shows the Gaang making money is the episode where Toph is using her earth ending to scam people. Where tf do they get their money?
Sokka really isn't the weakest link of the team, I'd argue that after Aang, he is the most essential member of the team (his biggest achievement ofcourse was finding out about the eclipse (not bad for someone the librarian called 'not very bright'), making a plan and almost taking out the fire nation, which did fail). And Taking out SSB man, someone who is in my opinion, the most dangerous bender in the last airbender (Hama is too situational). Only overtaken by P'li, Tarlok, Amon and Yakone. His first encounter with the gang shows what makes him so dangerous... stealth. A combustion bender outranges any counterpart and is capable of instantly killing an entire group that doesn't notice him with a single blow.

She’s my favourite character in the whole show
considering the towns leagal system its actually pretty realistic that aggressive looking good people are in prison
I lost it immediately at 2:08... 🤣
"THAT'S FINE! I'LL TAG IN- HER MOTHER!"
Jeezas that was messed up. I love this guy XD
"nothing says 'I'm innocent' like perfectly recreating the murder you're accused of" 😂
I gotta say tho...if she DID want to kill him..she could of just froze his lungs 🧐
oh that sounds familiar- oh well..
let it g-@@Daesma999
@@Daesma999 No, don't mention him.
@@TheTrueTyrannosaurusRex him? You meam different person, then
@@Daesma999 We do not mention the guy who got frozen from the inside.
First, hair looks dope. Second of all, I'm pretty sure the only two elements that don't need to move there feet to bend, are water and air benders.
Now let's just imagine what it was like for Roku to have Kyoshi as the most direct person in his corner.
Honestly I don't think he did, Roku wasnt very good at the Avatar state and let's be honest if KYOSHI was as present in Roku life as Roku is with Aang... Roku would've INSTANTLY killed Sozin then and there
@@observantwonderer7401 whos to say kyoshi was adament about it but roku was bassicly like "screw you"
They can just straight up ignore the advice its still just advice but yah thats gotta be grating for roku just repeatedly like “hey roku you should try murder it solves all the problems”
11:42 aang was really feeling his inner Kyoshi in that moment
Lol true
Water Tribe money and Earth Kingdom money is pretty much the same thing, if both use silver and copper pieces of similar weight. There may be a bit more upfront cost for foreign nations if they need to find other nation people to use it on or pay to melt them down, but silver is silver, whatever the nation.
my thoughts exactly
You almost have a Hughes haircut!
"Bitch, Imma head out WITH your country" was gold!! Loved it!
4:36
Actually it’s kinda funny how so many people know what Ang looks like, enough to make a statue of him. And they didn’t just use someone already known like Yang Chen. Considering that most people think that Ang’s avatar is dead.
9:55
Loved this bit.
Kind of wild Ang is so worried about what people think of him. When he’s supposed to save the entire world, yet playmates to one village full of fanatics to a warmongering conquer.
11:42
Some may find it strange that Ang found his sass despite him being so altruistic.
Well into the boiling oil you go!”
14:37
Really helps that The Bolder is voiced by WWE legend Mick Foley.
17:17
Kind of can’t help but wonder how Toph would be able to fight against a fire bender that uses the ability that basically allows them to fly by using fire jets on your hands and feet. If she’d still be able to detect them somehow, or if she’s be completely blind like when ang uses his airbending.
15:57
And there she is!
"Its like Santa showing up on Christmas... and then we eat him" had me in stitches and thinking "What the fuck did I just hear?"
“Fine *self five* ill tag in - HER MOTHER?!” Bruh went from 0 to a hundred REAL quick! 😂
"The Blind Bandit" was a sendup of pro-wrestling. Mick Foley even voiced The Boulder.
0:06 It feels like you’re really pushing for the Maes Hughes look, which is totally cool imo
@@michaelkenner3289but she could make a guess and it is her home so she could have just memorized it
I loved the lawyer bit so much 🤣 idk why but it was so perfect. Also the ‘Imma head out WITH YOUR COUNTRY’ because your gestures are so perfect 🤣
Danny ya look like the main character in an Italian drama, absolute 10/10 style
Fun Fact: Toph can see any component of Earth with her seismic sense, even if the earth isn’t connected to the ground!
What does this mean? Like do you have examples?
@@chronosclaimsallshe can sense any of the attacks coming at her in the air. It also mentioned it in the avatar extra versions of the episodes.
22:47 oh my goodness, how did i never realize this before. THE REASON WHY TOPH IS CRYING IS BECAUSE SHE KNOWS HE'S LYING. Im not sure if this is ground breaking revelation, or if im just slow as cement, but this rocked my world.
THAT ZUKO VOICE WAS SO REAL I THOUGHT ZUKO REPEATED HIS LINE 8:28
Your Atla videos make my day so much better. Thank you for making content.
"That's fine, I'll tag in! HER MOTHER!!!" 😂😂😂😂 literally had to pause the vid to laugh 😂😂
Your hair always looks great, but your lil antennas are cute🥰
And one of your best jokes was when you said “Let her have it Sokka” and he just said her hair loopies and you said “Alright I’ll tag in, YOUR MOTHER!”
So glad Toph has finally joined the gang, I loved watching the team grow and seeing how dynamics shifted with everyone
I was hoping to see your comments on how sassy Toph is towards The Boulder before hilariously humiliating him but i wasn’t disappointed, you managed to make me cry with laughter 😂
8:22 impression was so good thought the clip played again ❤️
14:34 - As a wrestling fan, it's a joy to hear Mick Foley doing a Rock impression.
"Hit it harder!"
-Aang 2006.
"hiT iT hArdER!"
-Danny 2023
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I will always believe that Aang’s slight attitude is leftover influence from the Kyoshi possession. It was absolutely a kyoshi response.
I personally think zuko is the best (especially with his growth of character) but toph is awesome
Which makes Kuvria 10x more cold because she was weaving those air attacks that she couldn't see like a governor of Weave Nation
9:16 9:42 10:05 Are SO funny, peak Danny humor
And also at 20:19 Aang probably is baffled why Toph hasn’t left yet because he grew up with Nomads who traveled the world alone starting as children.
"Is my client a perfect man? No."
"I killed him, yeah"
Honestly, being raised as a nomad by a community of monks (no direct family/parents relationship) him asking top why she doesn’t leave actually makes perfect sense because that is probably pretty normal for a tribe of nomads.
Yooo great lineup indeed! These always make my day. Thanks!
Edit: HOLy crap
"That's fine I'll tag in- HER MOTHER!"
Look ok it was unexpected but may I say - best yo momma joke I've heard in a long while, lol.
this joke also cracked me up 😂 the fact that it's also SOKKA'S mother just killed me (like it did her)
Actually I think we see a few Yangchen statues throughout avatar. She was one of the more liked (or at least feared) avatars
I didn't even realize Danny revoiced Zuko's bit 😭😭😂😂
Same with the Sokka bit
"The Boulder is conflicted"
"The Boulder is over his confliction"
I love your hair!!! Toph is genuinely one of my favorite characters of all of time and is the reason my earthbending tattoo is on my foot
I haven't seen the show in forever, so the bit where you voiced over Sokka, i thought it was the actual dialog
Not including "The boulder is having conflicted feelings about fighting a blind little girl" is criminal
This trial is like the goofy courtroom animation.
Lawyer: my client did not kill this man
Kiyoshi: ill fuckin do it again
is it just me or was that zuko impression absolutely flawless - at first i couldnt even tell it was danny
The Gaang just putting ya boi up in drag and Kyoshi's just lettin 'em cook
The accent the fire nation guy is using is intended to be a satirical depiction of Nikolai Volkoff of the WWE. He used to begin all of his matches with singing the Russian national anthem. I guess it’s their way of paying homage to the golden era wrestling. Which they do a marvelous job in this episode and one of the things that make this such a great show. The way they are able to tell stories while infusing pop culture phenomena, I find to be incredible…
as a peruvian the:
"Would you take a *Peruvian Sol* ?" jumpscared me lmao
(especially considering its worth like... $0.27 american USD )
I appreciate this context, because without it I thought he was holding up merchandise from an anime I've never seen and offering a human soul in exchange for goods.
@@hourglassrose5513 lmao yw!
"offering a human soul in exchange for goods." i love that omg
Just now noticing the item he held up was not, in fact, a Peruvian Sol
I think its like ATLA merch or smth
This mans videos always make my day better
Toph: my dad said I was free to travel the world
Sokka: no he didn't... Let's go before he realizes you're gone
I love your lisp!! And YES, Toph is the best female character in all of western animation history!!
danny saying "yoho kioshii here" killed me hahaha
Danny’s hair is adorable
Danny does his hair like a praying mantis.
Toph's fighting style is Southern Praying Mantis.
I see what you did there.
Them constantly forgetting toph is blind was quite hilarious
The "that's okay I'll tag in, YOUR MOTHER!!!" joke definitely needs to be a clip on tiktok, I died XD
HER MOTHER had me rolling 🤣🤣🤣
I love how self-conscious Danny is when he’s perfectly fine
I always thought that Toph could see how people moved and so she could predict what they were going to do.
The amount of blind jokes Toph brings to the table is just 😘👌
No joke when he did the sokka voice-over. I totally thought he sounded like zuko. And then, when he did the zuko voice over, it blew my mind.😂
That was some top notch editing on sokka in his investigator outfit XD
Danny your hair is looking even more fluffy then normal
2:15 "That's fine. I'll tag in. HER MOTHER!!!"...ok ...I'm sold...subbed :)
hair looks good, keep up good work sir. Toph approves of the praying mantis hair 👍
