That's why I consider you a friend because we can joke around with each other and have fun. It's not all about the best tvs or audio systems it's about having fun and living our lives.
At 2000, a pair it puts these speakers up against other Towers that offers more. Like the SVS Prime Pinnacles or Ultra Towers. The stereo imaging is amazing on a lot of Andrew Jones designed speakers. However, he needs to stop ignoring the low end. 5 2/5, drivers will just become distorted when the sound gets turned up on bass heavy frequencies or non existent. What a shame.
Please break them in for a while, then give a full review. My burn-in method for woofers, the concept of which was given to me by Andrew Jones, is to play a low bass note (I use 30 Hz) at mid/high volume. I do one minute on, one minute off. Even 5 minutes makes a big difference in a new woofer. As for the tweeter, loud music, or white/pink noise works well, as always. But the woofer method has paid BIG dividends for me. The quantity and quality of bass multiplies after giving the drivers some exercise like this.
If SVS can do what ELAC does with their subwoofer automatic room correction, in the SVS app, I’ll be happy as a clam. I’m surprised these towers are not driving the woofers with internal amps AND incorporating that same room correction! Nice review.
Thanks to this video, I learned I could turn up the high end with my receiver. I have UB5 book shelves and center Chanel ( originals) and vocals seemed clear but lower than the rest. Adjusted it, turned on new lord of the rings on prime, sounded great! Heard all the dialog clear. Thanks.
Dude , i would expect a complete review soon from you. You haven't reviewed the debut reference ( just did the initial impressions ). You did reviewed the unifi bookshelf with joe. Now it's time to review the mixed of both unifi & reference .
Hey Vamsi! Unfortunately, I couldn't review the Debut Reference. My wife couldn't stand them. She couldn't hear people talking and I could barely keep those speakers connected, even with the center channel. I would say, these Uni-Fi Reference are a great step in the right direction, but the bass is lacking in these towers. I think the bookshelf versions are better for bass with a 6.5" driver. I have the Focal Chora 816, and those have better bass and $200 less than these towers. So many speakers in this price range...
@@grandpixel It was verified by Joe N Tell's measurements as there is a dip in the frequency response causing the vocal intelligibility to be very difficult on the Debut Reference. They fixed that in the Uni-Fi Reference and since they cost the same price, it would be hard to recommend the Debut Reference over the Uni-Fi Reference.
@@grandpixel At that time, what I was referring to was the Debut Reference vs. the Uni-Fi 2.0 UB52, same price but vocal intelligibility was much better on the Uni-Fi 2.0 and they both came in at $599.
Hey Techno Dad. I enjoy watching your videos and am a fan. I am looking to purchase a set of speakers. I do not have all the high-end equipment you have, modest budget. I am running a Denon X4700H and I'm looking at the Uni-Fi Reference UFR52 or the SVS Prime Pinnacle series. No external amps at this point but maybe in the future. What would you suggest?
Im not sure what you mean by they need a lot of power? There max wattage rating was 140. I was considering buying a marantz cinema 40 to connect to it. Just in a 5.1 set up.
It’s about speakers not being sensitive, so you will need more power to get the same volume output at the MLP. Unlike sensitive speakers that will need less power to create the same volume level at the MLP. Here’s a video - ruclips.net/video/53KBKYeJdPs/видео.htmlsi=KI46nsmPIbb4Aiul
@TechnoDad I get it. I'm running the bookshelves on the nad 389 right now but imma get a tower center and 2 rears. I seen marantz cinema 40 will run 6ohms at about 150 wattsx3. So I think that'll be great. I don't think I've had high many high db speakers. These elac sound great.
@techno dad - if you had a budget of 5k (but really don’t want to go over 3.5k unless there is significant reason to) what speaker set up (as well as whatever other equipment you would need which I will need help understanding as I’m new to most of this) would you purchase for a home gym that will suppliment an 85 inch tv at some point for streaming podcasts and videos but will mostly be used for music during working out or relaxing in a sauna. Not sure what source I would use for the music yet so would love your thoughts there too as I currently would just stream from a free service but could pay for a more premium Service like Amazon’s or tidal if it would be better. I can ask this on a live stream at some point if it’s easier : )
@Not Sure thanks! It looks like on their site (swan) they have the M5As in stock which look to maybe be a newer version of the m500s? Would these work well or better? And would I need any other equipment or since they are active will they be enough for about a 20 by 20 space?
@Not Sure also assuming since the M5As are much larger that helps on some ways, but disregarding they would probably cost 700ish more - how would they compare to the KEF LS50 Wireless IIs that came out last year?
@Not Sure thanks again! If I went with the kef and then was looking to add a sub, would it be best to then stick with a KEF sub or does it matter? Was looking at the KF92, but that is about a thousand more than another one I was reading about - Q Acoustics QB12. I do not really care about the size of the sub since it will be in a larger room, so what would you recommend pairing with the LS50W 2s?
The 5/25, bass drives kills it for me. Especially, at 2000, dollars a pair. Eight inch drivers will be great and at minimum 3, 6 1/2, inch bass drivers.
Test the 400to600 hz tone. It'll distort buzz tweeter. At least my ub52 did on both speakers. Normal music don't hear as much but I use meditation music 528hz it'll distort..
Quasi- point source design for the mids and highs is a great choice. I imagine that these would be great in a phantom- center channel setup, as you say! I just wish that they were a bit more sensitive, and that the three bass drivers crossed over a bit lower. But hey, I haven't heard them and can't argue with Andrew's engineering and design choices. ☺
I have 4 B6.2. These, like mine are not that efficient. I drive mine with a Parasound 2350 - 600 x 2. Even with this kind of power, I've had my amp check out with the "Hi-Temp" light on. The towers will even be hungrier. You will need POWER!
Sounds like you're disappointed with a really good speaker that needs to be complimented by a sub or dual subwoofer set up. I think I'd love these in white paired with a couple SVS 3000 micros also in white!
I don't know what is going on with Elac I have a damaged plate amp that I am currently trying to replace and I have been trying to talk to Elac for weeks now. I am afraid to go anywhere near there products again. Good or not if you can't use it, it makes no sense
One of the higher end 7.2 or 9.2 Denon AVRs I have an older Pioneer and really like it but am seriously thinking of dropping a couple G's on a Mareantz
Channa will you be testing the new yamaha 11ch ampand did you ever test the K L H kendall towers im about to purchase them will my marantz sr 7030 handle them
I don't know Richard, I'd have to buy the Yamaha, which I really don't want to do...Those KLH Kendall towers look great! 96dB sensitivity sounds great! You won't have any trouble powering these with an AVR.
@@TechnoDad Oh got it, I wanted to compare, I got the Uni-fi 2.0 uf52 and honestly they are pretty deep in bass. But I have obviously never tried the reference.
There is a lot more bass on the Prime Pinnacle than these. I wasn't able to measure the Prime Pinnacle, but I think these ELACs measure pretty flat, so that's good.
Regarding base it seems exactly same as unifi 2.0 speakers. It does need base boost unless you use subwoofer for music listening ( i have 12" Polk sub). On paper it has even almost identical to unifi 2.0. i guess Andrew Jones created these for the looks and maybe did change metallic cone a bit. Because a lot didnt like unifi 2.0 looks and not having magnetic grills and some had issues with VERY high listening volume for longer period. I personally own unifi 2.0 whole set (5.0) and i guess i keep those until i step up to next price range. The looks doesnt bother me and i do like that woody look more than black front
Very expensive outsourced crap! At this price point these speakers ought to be made in Germany not China with much better quality wood not vinyl or mdf! For the same price, get Focal speakers (Made in France) or Dynaudio/Dali (Made in Denmark) with far better build quality and equally great sound quality.
