All his bands were tight because Prince set the tone, kept the standard high and practiced constantly. The Revolutionary is just his most famous due mostly to Purple Rain film.
Prince never made music we wanted to hear. We wanted to hear the music Prince made. There a big difference. His music was always challenging the fans to open their ears, hearts and minds. No matter how many times I hear a Prince song, my ears, my heart and my mind are all opened a bit further. How many times has Prince given us a new song and after we listened to it we felt like, “What the f@&k did Prince just do?” There are times that on the first listen, the song overwhelms me, no matter how simple the song’s composition is. Like when I first heard the song Kiss. Blown away and a bit confused on what Prince gave us. Part of my mind still wonders but my ears and my heart figured it out. And Prince is the only musician that could challenge me like that. And by the way, I’m a 55 year old metal head and Prince is still my favorite.
Stesia88 I've read comments from some implying that Wendy wasn't the caliber of guitarist that should be playing with Prince. I have huge respect for her, as I do for the other members of the Revolution. Prince always surrounded himself with strong and talented musicians, if they were good enough to play with and be chosen by Prince that says a lot... and they're good enough for me!
Wendy was just 21 years old at this performance. Just imagine being that young and actually having the honor to be in his band. She's playing his guitar, by the way.
JWD1012 she completely kicks ass plain and simple! I know playing, dancing and singing at the same time can't be easy. I sure wish I'd have gotten to see Prince and the Revolution live. 😢
Damn, the skills... He does a one-shot GENUINE at-venue live recording, and the results look like ANYONE else's efforts with a four-day shoot and GD Francis Ford Coppola directing. That was our Mozart. Hail to the Prince.
Purple Stardust I'm just happy such a young person appreciates him...I also think that all his fans also look much younger than their ages...just my personal theory though
Purple Stardust this guy was unbelievable when watching him you know there is a God who put him here for a reason .I can't believe he gone either but his spirit is here forever
the greatest who ever did it...hands down. I dont give a fuck who you go get. You cant put them in front of Prince. Yes...he loved the Godfather...yes...Larry Graham was one of his mentors and idols....yes, he loved Jimi, Sly and Little Richard, too. And he had a lot of respect for the energy that punk, brought to the table. But his talent, skill and uniqueness, stands alone. He was a very VISUAL artist...he made you keep your eyes on him. But lets not forget his INCREDIBLE gift for songwriting and innuendo. Prince was one of 'the masters", truly. And one of the better guitarists Ive ever seen.
That damn band keep their eyes on him the whole time and still played all their parts! Jeeze! PRINCE is the best musician and entertainer of all time and this is not up for debate. LOL
@@annetteburwell771 omg that's for sure... Morris Day, tevin Campbell, Rosie Gaines, sinade o'conner etc etc... If not for Prince, think of the beautiful music we would've missed
OMG! Prince was the greatest to ever be in the realm of music! The video footage of him and the Revolution performing America in Nice, France just proves this! This is so hard, funky and badass! The only way to describe what this man did is pure genius! We had a genius like this on our Earth for many years creating a bunch incredible music and we lost him in 2016 and this Prince fan can't even take that he is gone! I am happy his videos are being put up back on RUclips so future generations can see how brilliant this man really was!
That's what I'm trying to tell this younger generation of folks, that this is how it's done! Try to learn something from Prince's performance and you'll be headed i n the right direction
The cues he's giving to the band every now and then are just so genius. I always thought that those hand moves were just apart of the show until one day I looked a little closer. Fascinating...
Chisenga Mulenga He learned it all from James Brown. Oh, I see deadstar44 said the same, but that's okay. We can never praise James enough. If he was the Godfather, then Prince was the Godson.
I love how he just starts to play the drums at 7:49. Before Purple Rain, I just thought of him as a somewhat strange soul singer with a falsetto. What I didn't realize was how much he was growing from "I Wanna Be Your Lover" through both Controversy and the monster double-album 1999 to come up with the perfect entry to the genius of Purple Rain. When I saw the video for When Doves Cry, I knew I had to see the movie. Summer of 84, the first song, Let's Go Crazy, I thought was too noisy. That dissonant piano. All that screaming. I was used to smooth Michael, not this musical demon unleashed on the stage and setting it on fire. And then he played the Beautiful Ones, and I was hooked for life. Computer Blue. A thousand other songs later and my piano and guitars will never forget all the joy this man gave me and my loved ones. Thank you for changing my life. I hope you one time saw us laughing in the dawn of your talent and musical gifts you shared with the world.
This is a prime example of the results people get when they not only hone their craft but love their craft as well. But keep in mind you have to put in the work.
I know he was working his ASS OFF bringing this to us, but God--he looks like he was having so much fun, too!! I hope I get to meet him one day, if Heaven is real.💜
When Around the World in a Day came out, Purple Rain was still riding high in the public conscience. It was hard for some people who were stuck in a Purple Rain daze to move forward with Prince. Then just the next year he released the remarkable album Parade, which people really weren't ready for, (especially the film which was basically ignored). Prince had grown so much in short a short period of time that many fans got left behind. Even Sign O The Times was ahead of the curve. Then came The Black Album and Love Sexy, (and Madhouse 1 and 2). Many people were still discovering 1999 and Purple Rain, and Prince had moved so far into the future. It wasn't until the Batman soundtrack that the general public was ready to except something new. IMO, Parade and Sign O The Times, bookend albums, were oozing with masterpieces and was his most productive period. And then there were the many hits Price wrote for others. He could of made an album of #1 hits just on the music he gave to others. Prince, from 1980 to 1987 reached as far as any musician ever had into his mind and didn't come out for a very long time. Only Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Steely Dan and a few others ever dared to go this distance to discover genius. I'm so glad Prince did. Peace!
true but your forgetting about david bowie he had an impressive run of good to great albums during the 70s arguably even better than stevie wonder's run during the 70s
I finally figured out why exactly I appreciated Prince so much besides his music. He really really demonstrated an enthusiasm while performing. There is an old school joy in selling a song he understood to his core. Look at a lot of the old school Motown, James Brown performers, they all were well trained to sell the hell out of a song, not just perform it. It so crazy to realize that most of their performances were so well rehearsed that they came off as spontaneous.
He has No business being dead, but deserves to be in heaven.
Neither is for us to decide!

There will never be another Prince again. They broke the mold when they made him. RIP Price!!
Prince and The Revolution = My Fave!
Wow he is so happy in this performance! The joy and the energy are palpable . Thanks for being you
Wendy is feeling this one. Loving her energy!
Don't know how anybody who has seen the Syracuse concert could doubt her ability.
Wendy was just 21 years old at this performance. Just imagine being that young and actually having the honor to be in his band. She's playing his guitar, by the way.
And her necklace! 💜
JWD1012 she completely kicks ass plain and simple! I know playing, dancing and singing at the same time can't be easy. I sure wish I'd have gotten to see Prince and the Revolution live. 😢
Prince is one of the realest artist ever! So far ahead of his time!
Time is a trick
I saw Prince played the drums and HE ABSOLUTELY KILLED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get down wit yo bad self!! Or should I say ROCK ON PRINCE!!!
My National anthem
He was his time. Heck, in truth, he was also the Time (he just Morris play).
I bet y‘all didn’t notice the Red, Black, and Green Flag in the background, huh? Prince was down for his people…a proud Black man.
Thank you 😊
I didn't see that before now I see it
Is it an African flag
ANOTHER cringey Afrostraightener claiming Prince's whyt features are blk. 💩🤣🤦 Keep DREAMING, Afrostraightener.
@@BANJOSMOMMY yes
That drum solo OMG!!!!
Damn, the skills... He does a one-shot GENUINE at-venue live recording, and the results look like ANYONE else's efforts with a four-day shoot and GD Francis Ford Coppola directing.
That was our Mozart.
Hail to the Prince.
Yessss, OUR MOZART!!! Brilliant 💜
Prince had the skills in music like Bruce Lee had the skills in martial arts
The G.O.A.T
Still can't believe this icon is gone. This was so amazing! I wish I was alive during this time!!
Fannie Dixon Because I've seen most of his performances and heard all his albums. Like that I can tell he was and will always be an icon.
Purple Stardust I'm just happy such a young person appreciates him...I also think that all his fans also look much younger than their ages...just my personal theory though
kookoo78 :)
Purple Stardust yeah you missed out on the greatest artist of all time but at lease you can check him out here on RUclips ...
Michael Jackson
@@EFunkRocknot in the conversation whatsoever
@@sdey893 yet Sly is?
@@EFunkRock yes, if u didn't know sly is 100 percent more influential than mj and actually knew how to perform live and was a talented bandleader
And now they just put REM in the songwriters hall of fame but not prince...beyond GOAT status. They still do not get it.
That damn band keep their eyes on him the whole time and still played all their parts! Jeeze! PRINCE is the best musician and entertainer of all time and this is not up for debate. LOL
Lmaooooooo nope, and if anyone tries to debate this I'll hold your beer & then tap u out & you'll hold mine lol
Yes he was and never minded sharing the spotlight and letting others shine.
@@annetteburwell771 omg that's for sure... Morris Day, tevin Campbell, Rosie Gaines, sinade o'conner etc etc... If not for Prince, think of the beautiful music we would've missed

Prince & The Revolution. Slaying every other band. You can't battle this!
The GOAT!
This man was a creative, entertainment FORCE OF NATURE! Truly touched by God! There will never be another Prince! He was the 20th centrurys Mozart!
The truth.
He was directing the band while doing everything else. Beyond amazing ! What a loss !
Greatest live performer ever!
Love for the big old soul sister..... Prince and the Revolution kicked here. His best band ever!!!
"Don't fake it !" He meant that shit ! Our generation's Black Mozart ♠️
Prince was not a prince but a king !
Venancia Hopkins Oui
No Doubt! He is simply AMAZING!
@Yusuf Ibrahim He's used that before, it was an instruction to his band to make the ending "big & showy".
I could watch this all day 💜 Miss u Prince 💜
Holy Frijoles! I love everything about this performance, thank you for uploading! Prince is the best artist of all time!
The cues he's giving to the band every now and then are just so genius. I always thought that those hand moves were just apart of the show until one day I looked a little closer. Fascinating...
Yup and they had to constantly watch him cause he would switch up without warning.
The Godfather James Brown taught him right.
Nope Prince rehearsed a lot with his bands. U can see it when he says gimme 2 or 5, and other cues.
Lots of good bands do this keep an eye out 👁
Chisenga Mulenga
He learned it all from James Brown.
Oh, I see deadstar44 said the same, but that's okay. We can never praise James enough. If he was the Godfather, then Prince was the Godson.
Geez. The choreography for the band is crazy. This man was truly a genius
Good effing lord. That was stunning.
DEAR GOD I MISS HIM! This performance still knocks me out!
His purpleness?
The epitome of genius!! 💜
I hope you one time saw us laughing in the dawn of your talent and musical gifts you shared with the world.
his energy is something else! i felt out of breath just watching this! 💜
Jae Cee
I guess you could say he’s an energetic person!
Prince was a bad boy. Genius, Sexy, Masculine, with just enough Femininity, Confident, Hilarious and a gift to the world!
I didn't know he could play the drums, so Bad Ass!!! Love it!!! He is a Legend!
He could every instrument
He could play anything, except wind instruments I think.
Drums piano, guitar, organ and more. All self taught. A brilliant genius. He was very, very good at everything he did. Amazing man.
I showed him playing, bass, guitare, piano, organ, drums in Paris , a genius
Prince on drums is whats its about!
Paul Singh would be funny and nice after the he did the bass. Next sex a phone after that piano
Check out the 1st Madhouse album. He's plays everything but sax. All the drums are played live and it's the best drumming of his career.
@GT Tg nobody cares what Eric Leeds likes. It's not about him.
This is the most infectious groove that’s ever grooved
He went into straight beast mode!!!!!
This is a prime example of the results people get when they not only hone their craft but love their craft as well. But keep in mind you have to put in the work.
He's is my Muse
Monumental
Prince had enormous gifts, then put in the hard work. He was untouchable.
thanks mum
Absolutely! Positively! To be that great, you have to put the work in, it's called honeing ur craft, it's easier said than done. 1love
I love and miss Prince everyday he entertains my life 💜💜💜💜💜💜
@@victoriabrodie1348 I have to agree with you miss Victoria, he is amazing and so are the musicians he surrounds himself with!!!
Peace!
Bowie, Prince, & Jack White...brother
Well said
lovesexy is one of the greatest albums ever recorded... and the entire world slept on it...
true but your forgetting about david bowie he had an impressive run of good to great albums during the 70s arguably even better than stevie wonder's run during the 70s

PRINCE IS LEGEND.
Prince and The Revolution. I'm honored to say I went to the Controversy tour, 1999 tour, and Purple Rain tour. The live performances were amazing.
Prince was beyond genius.
My heart skips a beat when Prince is on the drums.
Electric performance!
He did know how to have fun had a great sense of humor!!!
God is love, love is Prince💜forever🤴
I danced with a broom soooo many times to this performance...in fact, where is my broom now?
Loakum cute comment!

I had a tennis racquet

Your so right. Where is my darn mop? 👌
This video is a banger! His songs sound better live in my opinion. He's just tearing up the stage!
