Ah, the good old days, when each character had an average of one launching move, and players thought twelve fighters was a ludicrously high amount. If you plan to bring this challenge forward to later games, there's a fun little tech you can do where you throw a bomb up, step back, and use Link's grounded spin attack to launch the bomb forward. It's not particularly useful, and you're list as likely to blow yourself up, but it's fun to try and use.
Also, don’t some of the variant links have better knock back on bombs in later games? I’m pretty sure I remember Link’s bomb being a kill move in Ultimate.
@@enlongjones2394 None of the bombs in any of the pre ultimate games were kills moves except a couple of the custom ones in Smash 4. That includes Samus as well.

I loved playing this game like crazy when it first came out. Though good gods, have my mains changed dramatically in every game. 64, it was Link Melee, it was Young Link Brawl, it was Sonic 4, it was Mega Man Ultimate, it's currently Donkey Kong

Samus being a hassle until she accidentally slipped on a platform interestingly enough is what happens to really damn good Metroid players all the time.
I've always wanted to see a "self damage" only run in games like this. Like those bombs or consumables, there are many ways to harm yourself and the enemy at the same time. Imagine if you could ONLY deal damage if you also take damage! What a wild ride that would be, always in 1-shot range.

You could do this in ultimate with several different characters. The links, Snake, the Samus' if you count side B or are just really stubborn, peach if you're prepared to pull items for ages, mega man, Bowser Jr, Steve TNT, and hero if you count some of his down B menu other than kamikaze. You could also go online with all of these characters and just turn on all of the bomb items and play until to get an arbitrary number of wins.
THIS. A little bit of me died every time he said knock away damage. It's hitstun, into launch speed, into knockback. Even the project manager and lead developer, Sakurai, calls it hitstun, launch speed, and knockback, similar to how it is called in every fighting game, because that's what he based it off of and plays a lot of.

Random idea. What about only using fox's reflect attack? It's slightly offensive at close range and reflects all projectiles. Even turns pokeballs thrown at you to your command IIRC
I recall getting Pikachu to teleport kill himself on his level. Had to get him to the right side platform and bait him to fall down the middle and he'll teleport to the right off the side. Pacifist kill. 60k points?

Melee had some of the best design decisions ever made straying just enough from the fluffy feel good colors of the other games.

Well, Andy's was harder, technically. If he'd had Link the whole time instead of losers like Lucas he could've done a lot more.

Skul the Hero Slayer Bomb only and explosion related items only for your final load out (explosion items are more uncommon than non explosive)
