I love that Capcom gets this, and thats why we get the transmogs. Because the number of times that a whole consistent set has been the correct gear choice for me in World or Rise has been....zero? Yeah, zero.
With just a cat is also pretty fun, plus I'm curious how it would work without the meowcano early on.
Sadly that has been tested and while I'm not 100% sure on it, Palicos either become unable to hit after a certain amount of damage, or are just literally not allowed to land the final blow. You can command them all you want to attack but they just... MISS.
...but what if you used a kinsect?

I would recommend trying the other games as well, especially Generations Ultimate if you have a switch. Very different, but the game is honestly great. Tons of content as well. Good luck!

5:20 I do want to add that with the extra air move added in iceborne, high power low speed kinsects do have a place, as the kinsect follows your dive, damaging the monster as it passes through, if it follows more slowly this gets to tick for damage more times. So if you can get comfy with a slow kinsect to gather extracts this is a good choice for damage output.
hitting for 160 damage 8 times on alatreon makes my brain happy
This could have been a lot less painful if you used vitality boost and divine protection lol. Defense boost is much weaker than both of those, but the extra suffering does make the video better

Iceborn is absolutely possible considering that only a few main monsters are in the quest format. you can fight all the monsters in the exploration format meaning no starting items but also no time or death limitation
But he has to slam the shit out of shara’s face, causing huge damage, making the challenge fail, unless he gets someone else to do it for him

As someone who loved using the Insect Glaive, I’m glad you made this video. This was really awesome and fun to watch. I managed to kill a few with only my kinsect before but never actually tried to do an entire run with it
Another beautiful challenge run. Thank you lemon for spending time making stuff like this. Honestly, was having a bad day after work today and seeing this made me feel a lot better
Awesome video and its nice to see the insect glaive getting some use but some tips for if you decide to do iceborne with this set up, slinger capacity can give you more red ammo when its fully upgraded to give you more uptime on the kinsect damage boost and i think the power prolonger skill also works to extend the buff as well. Also its a little strange that you didn't use the kinsect element menu at all since they have a pretty noticeable damage increase if you use the right element and you can swap it out when you need to as well. Finally im a little suprised you never used the flashbang trick with the dust clouds. If you didnt know when you use a flash pod any dust clouds in its effect radius get triggered all at once so you can stack up 4 clouds then set them all off at once for big status build up and the flash pod itself doesnt do damage so theres no risk of failing the challenge if you hit the monster with it. I really loved the video and hope you do more monster hunter challenges even if you decide not to continue this challenge into iceborne

this build is so strangely interesting to me. im back on MHW learning a weapon i never used just to try bonking things with a buggy. any particular upgrade paths you recommend? what about power-speed and on?
@@DarkCT i'd go with speed and power with the maximum amount of speed for regular use, for the kinsect only i'd go with max strengh and speed second
@@grimacetexas9719 thank you. any further tips for this kind of run? I am kind of following in Lemons steps so far, trying to get more info. biggest thing i didn't apply to my kills so far was kinsect charging. that said, my runs not so hardcore, using the palico and clutchclaw combinations too.
A few tips for anyone trying this:
1) If u dont mind upgrading weapons, do consider crafting 3 of them, one with Sever bonus, one with Element bonus and one with Spirit & Strength bonus (Iceborne only).
Sever is fine on non-element, Element is preferred usually if u know the monster's weakness, and SS is best if u know u can't get the monster dropped ammo (pair this with slinger capacity if u can for increased value)
2) "Heal" stat is important, but for the wrong reasons. It governs stamina of the kinsect, so a mix of Power and Heal is best.
That said, u inspired me to do this in MHR! Love your content Backlogs!

Good work! I had forgotten about blast- that does make this challenge go from "really? how??" to "this is maybe feasible". Pretty solid strategies all around- but I do wonder if Kushala would've been easier with a poison kinsect, i remember him being horribly weak to it in 4u.
Minor correction: since Rathalos and Rathian are the males and females of the same species, they're almost certainly supposed to be pronounced similarly.

As a insect glaive fan, this makes me appreciate my kinsect as an ally. My online friends have even started calling him tim because of his healing dust saving us when we were still new and getting hilarious surprise kills later like a Glavenus mid air in its jump attack

As someone who mains Insect Glaive, this kind of stuff actually excites me. I was always kinda sad that the whole bug building process basically boiled down to "speed or bust". Seeing the bug be used (successfully) for damage is neat.

@@justsomejojo If you haven’t heard, Iceborne bug is actually insane for damage and actively rewards having a slower bug surprisingly.
The descending thrust is the strongest way to end your air combos, and has your bug follow your flight path through the monster. Slower bugs give more hits so it’s a really cool trade off between damage and extraction.
As someone who put almost 600 hours into MHW on PS4 alone, I can only say this…. You’re better at this game than I’ll ever be. One of my favorite RUclipsrs recently.
I remember doing this long long ago on twitch for a charity run. Some advice to anyone who wants to try this:
Keep your own speed and armour buffs up for extra survivability, build for evade window and divine protection instead of defense boost for the same reason, any buff is better than no buff, but learn where all the different different crabs with red pods are, there's a lot of them for certain monsters. Another survivability boost comes from having healing dust items, as while they heal less, tossing them out is faster than a potion while you find better openings.
Also most monsters drop three pods per hunt, you can gauge the HP accordingly, as it is HP based.
In Iceborne, elemental kinsects are worth it for specific monsters, but raw is better in most cases. Base game the elemental grind is absolutely not worth it.
To add, Defense Boost isn't great and Elemental Defense Boost is a trap.
Defense Boost doesn't actually add that much damage reduction per point, so you're better off using different armor/deco. Drinking defense buffs and eating defense food is fine, since there's not anything else worth taking.
Elemental Defense Boost sucks because monsters don't actually deal that much elemental damage. Even attacks that obviously look like they'd deal elemental damage are majority physical.
@@Darklordiban7 The elemental to physical ratio does increase in IB, but it is a trap no matter what. Elemental mechanics in Monster Hunter are weird, the best reason to look at elemental defense is to make sure it isn't too far into the negative for what you are fighting, and to occasionally get it high enough for blight immunity.

This play through gave me some ideas about the insect glave and I realized during your zoro magdaros fight that I can use my little buddy to hit rock instead of dying trying to hit it. Overall your video wasn’t only super interesting but very informative (this actually helped me out a lot because I main the glave and am still learning so much)

Honestly i was expecting this to not be possible, but you proved me wrong. Please do more challenge runs for this game, this was unreasonably entertaining lmao
before seeing the outcome, I'm going to say that it is possible, just because of the squad that killed behemoth with just kinsects and since then iceborne added the kinsect buffing which is pretty strong
Hell yeah, love the bug glaive, it was one of the weapons I used for my playthrough (along with the daggers and a heavy bowgun for when I was doing co-op)

God, I love this channel. I tried playing this game with a friend and hated every moment of it. But after watching this video, I tried this game again by myself, and I see why people like this game.

The friend element could have been the problem. While it's fun with friends I feel the game works best when you start on your own and learn what parts of the game appeal to you the most first. Once you're at a point were you actively hunt monsters you've already fought because a specific weapon or armour piece caught your eye you're hooked.

It's so cool seeing you play a monster hunter game, it's my favorite game franchise
I main insect glaive in MHW. And I’ve used the kinsect only strat to cower in the corner over every new fight because I’m brand new to the series and had no idea what I was doing at first. Then I found out that it works quite well, and it’s become a fallback for when I have to learn how a monster’s attacks work.
Being a pokemon trainer in a world full of monsters has its perks.
i think i learn the kinsect mechanic when i was hunting diablos. kinda sad that every *return* i learn more and way more.
kinsect press Y and B feeding it jump hit, hit, and double or normal double jump. now i'm kinda an expert of this weapon

the hardest part about these challenge runs is watching the unskipable cutscenes
I knew this was possible from the very start of the video.
Some hints here:
-There is a channel in RUclips (MasamuneTV) that killed every single monster of MH4U with the Kinsect (G-Rank included of course).
-I have like 1000 hours played and two world records in this game; and more than 3000 hours played in the franchise.
-I used the Insect Glaive at the start of the game, but the DPS of the weapon wasn't enough for me (fun weapon to use).

i remember being bow and light gun build and always dealing one damage (i had Rathalos armor from all my failed missions, never made it past the flaming-t-rex) and getting a ton of off-line lag... maybe i'll try this.
keep an eye on the reticle with ranged weapons, if its not orange (within critical range) youll do basically one damage every shot

Isn't speed also tied to the Kinsect stamina? I might be wrong since I hadn't played MHW since 2019 and likely forgot a few mechanics.
Nope, stamina is how much it can stay without comming to rest back on you, speed is one of the kinsect stats and is listed directly on the kinsect branch

Don't really exist in modern animals anymore but used to, mostly in reptiles (we think. It's hard to tell die to fossil records not being very conclusive). It's still not quite clear what the purpose of them would have been but among other things heat regulation and mating displays have been proposed.

Dude, playing IG normally and dealing with Nerg's ridiculous range is hard enough. I don't know how many times, even with a bit of evade assist, he would swipe me while I was yards from him. It's horrible.
This was fun to watch! I'm not as good as my husband and his bro with MH as a series, and World was my first foray, but I learned a couple details in this video that I want to use. I really new to more technical builds like IG. Keep on making awesome videos!

I always had this serious question: What exactly IS the Kinsect? Is it an actual giant sentient insect? Is it some kind of mechanical robot?
They're just big ol' tamed bugs. In MH4(the game IG debuted in) you actually raised the Kinsects by feeding them various nectars to level them up and evolve them into different forms. They removed it since it was kind of annoying trying to get the bug you wanted more often than not and instead you just buy them directly now.

This looks like one of the dumbest wastes of time I've seen for a Monster Hunter project, and given that I've tried to solo Stygian Zinogre on Asian difficulty back in MH3U that's saying something. Gonna have to try it myself with Lisa the Mauldrone!

Fun fact: Kinsects were arguably even better at bullying monsters in 4U and GenU. Before world they had access to a charge attack that did way more damage and was fantastic at knocking out monsters if you used a blunt kinsect, 4U had a specific type of kinsect that could spam charge attacks like crazy, and GenU replaced the "heal" stat with a weight stat that allowed kinsects to flinch monsters way more often than normal along with the usual power stat.

I struggled with Kushala Daora so much on my first attempt, and I was using the IG normally. You probably killed it faster with just the kinsect, and that is hilarious to me.
Also, while it was almost certainly better to go for the power level on your kinsect, it is worth noting that the Heal stat doesn't just affect the healing it gives via green extract, (and doesn't affect healing dust at all). It also heavily affects the kinsect's stamina regeneration. Not really that much of an issue here, since you were manually recalling it to recover stamina, but something that is still worth noting.
your lack of unlocking buff food makes me so anxious watching, all the more impressive you did this and all that but, ahhh my heart
so... uhh... with some alterations i decided to take this challenge all the way into iceborne as far as i can go.
My rules were the Kinsect was my primary weapon. this means i did tenderize with the IG for slinger ammo right off the top, would clutch claw, would wallsmash. I mistakenly took swipes at times with the actual IG, and I also brought the palico. Think of it as a normal playthrough, but treating the bug as the weapon and the glaive as incidental. that said... once you understand the kinsect mechanics, there's only a handful of missions out of all of them in the game you honestly can't do.
elementally grow them. cycle them for enemy weaknesses. get an element boost weapon (my pick was the Legiana rarity 6 glaive, HR weapons work through the whole playthrough, and with grinding HR you can augment it with 20% Lifesteal) and you can take on the vast majority of challenges. there's a few fights through my testing you probably to really can't do. but nearly all of them are utterly end game encounters, or games raid equivalent fights. the thing that hurts this build is time. depending on fight mechanics and timers vs hitzone values, you can be walled. my run isn't over yet, my personal finisher is trying to take Fatalis since AT velk seems impossible to me, and it has been done to take Fatalis this way, but it's really amazing how viable this unintended build really is.
I went with the bug line that ends in gleambeetle velox for blunt damage, and it's hilarious how often exhaust and KO would come up.

Honestly, Air Time is the best thing monsters do that the IG weapons give to you too, having aerial battles against Rathy bois is super satisfying, especially when you down them mid air cuz its just like, Get *DOWN* son!

Truly the best challenge run of all time. This run also sounds a lot more fun in Rise with the diversity of Kinsect types you can get! I wonder if which Kinsect would do the most damage in that type of run, bug majeure, charged, or powder Kinsects? We need to prove to Capcom that the cute bugs are the ULTIMATE WEAPON, that way there will be no way they can deny us the right to pet them in future games!

I hope this made you try using the glasses too cause wow is it fun as hell bouncing around on that giant pogo stick. Makes flying monsters easy too cause you really don't need flashpods and no need to wait for them to land or get low enough. Went the whole game solo with it with very little issue. Juat so much fun having your kinsect flying all around while pogoing 100 feet in the air and staying up from hits.... oh what a blast. Lol

I just love the idea of there being a famous hunter who beat all elder dragons with only a kinsect imagine the other hunters telling their grandkids about it going "You wouldn't believe it Xeno'Jiiva couldn't do anything against their kinsect they were incredible" (also in my now after story for your character they definitely made advancements in kinsect tech to make them even more powerful and combat ready)

Pukei Pukei is my favorite monster in World. It is just so goofy and weird so I was rather glad you decided to capture it instead of murder it.
