The flow of 64 is my favorite, not insanely fast all the time and I can still string together long and satisfying combos and the sound effects make it that much more satisfying. Mechanic wise it's my favorite equal with Melee but I really don't like how a standard 64 controller makes the game feel and lack of single player. Other than that I disagree with your stance on it but I totally get where you're coming from.
Damien Nasta Exactly. I love the flow as well and punching sound effects. I prefer the gameplay of the 64 version than the ones after it. The ones after just seemed a bit too fast and i felt like i had less control of the character.

I played this back in '99 when I was still in college for only one afternoon and forgot all about it afterwards, dismissed it as a game for young children. Never thought it would become this huge franchise.
My oldest memory of smash is as a kid, i was at someone’s house playing melee. It was so amazing to see all the different characters. I was only about 7 so I thought that it was a dream for years until i saw gameplay of it on RUclips nearly 8 years later.
I can't tell you the amount of hours my friends and I spent playing this game growing up. We were playing this on a somewhat regular basis as late as 2015 - it's just too good!
well technically its there but not available outside of the master hand fight, besides what i really want is that stage with all the giant crystals in it
Ness was added due to smash 64 due to 1. Sakurai likes the Mother Series and it's MASSIVE in Japan, even back then, and 2. Some of the team who worked on EarthBound also made Smash 64, so its not unreasonable to think that they had some say in squeezing Ness into 64.
I hate that theres like 8 fire emblies like at least pokemon has the excuse of them all being different but the fire emblies are just sword person, sword person, fire sword person, sword person, water sword person, sword person, sword person with more than a sword but pretty much just a sword person
As a 34 y/o man, this was my favorite game on the N64, and the feeling of being the best among your school buddies was priceless... But after several years and a couple of new entries, I stop buying consoles at the Wii... (I have played SSB4, and would love to get Ultimate to my oldest kid)... my favorite Super Smash is.... PROJECT M V3.6 I play this one with my kid almost every week and the balance and rooster is very good. It has a faster pace and it definitely replaced the regular Brawl as my go-to Super Smash. I wish Nintendo would have hired the modders of PM and bring them on board of the development of newer ones.
The one thing I really miss from this Smash game that never made it into the others was the Board The Platform mini game. I always found it weirdly more satisfying that Break The Target
My friends and I were in "High" School playing this when it came out, we were literally in tears laughing so hard sometimes beating the living sh*t out of each other, the more dramatic the death.
The first time I saw the commercial for Smash 64 was in 7th grade. We were sitting in class one morning and the teacher always had the tv on before class started, watching the news and stuff and Smash 64's first commercial came on. It was rad.
I actually liked the static 1p Mode of 64 over future randomized Classic Modes. It felt like a journey or a gauntlet where each fight's set place gave it personality, like battling the Elite Four (the Fox fight was always my 'Shit got real' moment for a run) rather than just a random assortment of battles.

@@jomaq9233 I'm glad they're back, but I'm kind of bummed that they all have unique stages for it. The one, unifying stage in 64 made it fun to try and master, find the best character, or figure out how to get unorthodox characters to work with the stage design. If I was designing Ultimate, I'd give a selection of stages that all the characters could pick from, so that we could get that level of mastery and experimentation back while still expanding the scope for the new game.

I still can't belive Sakurai screw the heck out of his only character in Melee
@@mariajimenafigueroa8311 It’s almost impressive how god awful Kirby, Bowser and Gannondorf are in Melee.
@@Exeggutor_Enjoyer No, Ganondorf is decent in Melee, Brawl Ganon's the shit stain.
Time for the best 12 minutes of my life!
A Random Silas same
Eh, I'm going to make a bet that it will be surpassed by the next Scott video that is 12 minutes long.
A Random Silas and 49 Seconds
You should go over all the games in the series before the launch of smash 5!
@@Andrew-gv6br Watching these past people who live without smash ultimate make me polish the game cover before playing it....
I dont even have a nintendo switch
Combos are ridiculously long in Smash 64 and that's part of the reason it's my second favorite in the series after Melee.
Ever since I was a kid, I would almost never go out or watch TV, so for the majority of my life I dedicated it to Smash 64, but then just recently I got Melee for my Wii....and I felt alienated, I can't control my fireball game, smashes take to long to come out, Mario/Luigi up-B sucks...I'm just used to 64 that I can't play any other version
You living under a rock?? Raphnet gamecube controller to n64 adapter!
Mallow: N64 had the best combo system. Melee lowered hitstun too much and characters were absurdly imbalanced. Most characters feel yseless besides the best 5 or 6.
I played this back in '99 when I was still in college for only one afternoon and forgot all about it afterwards, dismissed it as a game for young children. Never thought it would become this huge franchise.
Congrats on the 1 million!!
You really are one of the funniest dudes on all of RUclips. Every time you make a new vid, it makes me smile. Keep it up, my dude!

when its september 1 and schools starting again
And a year later, boom school part 2
My oldest memory of smash is as a kid, i was at someone’s house playing melee. It was so amazing to see all the different characters. I was only about 7 so I thought that it was a dream for years until i saw gameplay of it on RUclips nearly 8 years later.
I can't tell you the amount of hours my friends and I spent playing this game growing up. We were playing this on a somewhat regular basis as late as 2015 - it's just too good!
0/10 no Final Destination.
You need GameShark hacks to access Final Destination in Smash 64.
KingSkyLord I know, this was a joke.
well technically its there but not available outside of the master hand fight, besides what i really want is that stage with all the giant crystals in it
Whispy
David Hoyos Yes
Ness was added due to smash 64 due to 1. Sakurai likes the Mother Series and it's MASSIVE in Japan, even back then, and 2. Some of the team who worked on EarthBound also made Smash 64, so its not unreasonable to think that they had some say in squeezing Ness into 64.
You know your watching an old scott the woz video when his background looks like that
there's one super good part about the metal mario fight in this, it's the music
When they announced Byleth as the 5th Challenger Pack 0:14
Despite saying 6 more characters are coming.
I hate that theres like 8 fire emblies like at least pokemon has the excuse of them all being different but the fire emblies are just sword person, sword person, fire sword person, sword person, water sword person, sword person, sword person with more than a sword but pretty much just a sword person
The first Scott the Woz video I watched with my "Hey all, Scott here" shirt on
As a 34 y/o man, this was my favorite game on the N64, and the feeling of being the best among your school buddies was priceless...
Smash Bros is fun and all but we all have to remember
It all started because Mario tripped Yoshi
Brown vs the board of education! That was so perfect
0:12 Scott- I love smash tour

Smash Tour > Melee
I freaking hate it
It’s ironic
I'm pretty sure that was a joke
My friends and I were in "High" School playing this when it came out, we were literally in tears laughing so hard sometimes beating the living sh*t out of each other, the more dramatic the death.
...I'm scared.
"we're greeted with a hearty" -ad starts- "Hi guys, I'm Maddie..."
The first time I saw the commercial for Smash 64 was in 7th grade. We were sitting in class one morning and the teacher always had the tv on before class started, watching the news and stuff and Smash 64's first commercial came on. It was rad.
"Mario vs Link, Samus vs Kirby, Brown vs Board of Education."
Ah yes, my favorite match ups of all time. Especially Brown vs Board.
This video deserves a solid "Neat'
"It's passable"... I may have to fight this guy.
"How the f*** did he get a Captain Falcon doll" 😂

Flawless intro
"After the logo appears we're greeted with a hearty... "
*Ad pops up*
Dude, that happened to me too.
PersonMan000: I agree all the matches just 'felt' right. The 2vs2 fight with Mario Bros, Giant Donkey Kong, Metal Mario etc. n later games its dumb how you have fights like "metal pikmin" for ex. The N64 1P mode not being random made it feel complete somehow
How do you feel about Ultimate going back to that… but with every character getting their own specific fixed route
@@PersonMan000 well that is definitely a hot take that… most people wouldn’t have
@@jomaq9233 Is what a hot take is
3:47 That was my exact reaction to that scene from the intro.

I’ve been a fan of videos games since I was old enough to hold a Sega Genesis controller and Scott is the first time I’ve seen someone successfully add humor to its commentary. Every time I watch a video I experience a “lol” moment.

Super Smash Bros. (N64) The First One, Apparently
It should be noted that Ness and Captain Falcon were not as obscure in Japan as they were in the rest of the world. Also, Jiggylypuff had more fandom back then because of a running joke in Pokemon, which was SUPER popular. And Donkey Kong at the time was lacking proper moves back then for a fighting game.
Smash 64's intro is the best. FITE ME.
Also, call me a nerd, but that part at the end with the announcer gives me chills every time.
Dr Ductape nah i agree
It's kind of sad to know most general audiences are just gonna know characters like Captain Falcon or Ness from Smash Bros and nothing else.
0:54 Yep, STEVE is a gaming legend!

(Sees banjo Kazooie) AAAHHHHH GET THE GUN!!!!!
The inclusion of Ness was the reason I danced wildly as a child. No one had heard of Earthbound in my town.
