      he should have tested for post before he installed the psu and cable managed it. He also didn't suspect his memory is bad, it would be "a pretty quick swap if it was". That's the easiest and usually the first thing to test and you can troubleshoot BOTH mobo and ram at the same time. But hey, how else is he gonna make a 23 min video 😂😂

    My guess is the dude thought you wouldn't accept his submission if he told you he mines on it. Either that or he knew what happened and just wanted some free upgrades. If someone knows how to mine, there are high chances they already have multiple spare parts on hand and have already tested to know what's wrong. Just saying.
    PS : HiveOS is not for the Average joe, so yeah, this might've been a case of someone taking Greg for granted. Sucks for the others who have legit submissions and are really in need.

    • @NonLegitNation2

      I'm guessing he didn't say anything because he didn't think Greg would take it. The fact that Greg had no idea what was going on with it and it took a new mobo and psu to fix it leads me to believe the owner wouldn't know that unless he had a bunch of spare parts lying around and did exactly what Greg did, and I'm assuming he didn't.

    • @LizzieBeezie

      @@NonLegitNation2 I'm not sure about the last part since most of the viewers know by now that Greg will either try to replace with a part that he has on hand or get a new one. I'm saying that because of the mining part that was a crucial piece of info to give to someone who's trying to repair your PC and that too for free. Guy knows how to mine but can't diagnose what's wrong with his pc?! Lol.

    You can hear the difference in excitement in Greg’s voice after finding out it was a mining rig when he got it to post. I agree that he should have disclosed that information. This guy clearly knew what he was doing, there’s a reason there wasn’t a CPU cooler in the rig and my guess is because he didn’t have an extra on hand. Not for that “I lost the screws” excuse.

    He probably used a wrong cable (a cable from another PSU that looks same) shorting the component. PSU might be trying to protect the damage by shutting off immediately. This exactly happens when you do that. PSU itself will be fine and that's why you dont see an issue via psu tester. This further might have damaged other components as well! I once lost my LED strip and LED on CPU cooler due to this mistake. Other have reported SSD failures due to this.

    Greg, the original board can't run the Ryzen 5500 without a BIOS update, and running it without a compatible bios would not post and it would show DRam LED.
    Have you considered obtaining a Ryzen 2600 or 1600 just to have a CPU "compatible with everything am4" for testing such cases?
    Also, since the board was dead, if the SSD was also connected to it with SATA data when testing the Antec PSU, it might trip a PSU protection if the PSU is sensitive it has a design that could be affected. I would try that PSU on s system, at least s trash system, just to check, and it could show you if your PSU tester is even more reliable than you now think. Or it could confirm your findings.

    I recently started watching ur fix or flop series, and to say I enjoy it is an understatement, I LOVE IT. If not cuz of schoolwork and midterm I would have binged the entire two seasons and the third by now. However, I dont really have a pc issue, but more of a monitor issue that I want to ask. One night, I heard a pop on my monitor and it shut off on me completely, no rgb light , nothing. Usually, whenever I turn on power, I see rgb light on my monitor but there was absolutely zero response. That night when my monitor shut off on me, I could still hear the video playing so I knew instantly it wasnt my pc. I tried replugging power supply and basically simply fixes and of course nothing. Both me and my dad thought its the power supply, but then its just so rare for a power supply on a monitor to be fried all of the sudden. I needed my pc for school so, I already got a new monitor, and didnt really bother testing it, but just wanna ask what u think since u know much more about tech than any of us.

    The same thing was happening to a system I built recently. The sata cable I had the ssd powered with was actually from a different psu entirely so when I powered the system on it lit up for literally a split second and then shut off. It took me a while to figure out the problem. I replaced the sata cable with the correct one for the psu. the system powered on and booted fine but I was never able to get the system to recognize the ssd afterward. So got a replacement and all is well. I’m still not sure if the original ssd is cooked or not but it was strange seeing the sata cable cause the whole system to short out like that. Great videos as always Greg!

    It irks me that they didn't disclose that it was used for mining, it would have saved a lot of time for troubleshooting. Since mining is a for profit activity which stresses consumer hardware past normal usage, there is a much higher chance of multiple component failure, and some vendors even void warranty for it. They could have used the profit made from mining to replace the parts themselves. I think you should really consider a policy on disallowing broken PC's used for mining.

    • @Safetytrousers
      @Safetytrousers Год назад

      It would only save time if he refused to fix a PC that had been mined with.

    • @JJJJ-vn1ix
      @JJJJ-vn1ix Год назад

      what profits? lmao.
      Also If mining done right it shouldnt stress the hardware more then gaming. If you tune the memory and voltages correctly i would argue that it is doing less stress on the gpu then gaming where it is going through cold/warm cycles.
      But still kinda scummy to not disclose that.

    • @dave597
      @dave597 Год назад +2

      @@JJJJ-vn1ix constant 24/7 at max load and heat wears down components much faster than gaming. why mine if you don’t make a profit, that’s just stupidity.

    • @JJJJ-vn1ix
      @JJJJ-vn1ix Год назад +2

      @@dave597 You don't want max load when mining. Depending on the mining algorithm you are fine tuning the memory or core voltage since you want to balance profits to power consumption to performance. The thing with gpu's today is that they get inefficient the more power you feed it. Ex. 4080 -> 4090
      You are at much higher risk of damaging your gpu going through cold/hot cycles than wearing down the silicon way below the heat generated at max load. Proof? Look at server hardware. They are constantly on at max loads and they are sold with confidence to consumers after 10 years.
      from what i gathered people still mine to offset the electricity cost of heating a room. Another reason is you hope that the coin you are mining goes up in the future using the gpu as a hedge since it still contains value even if the coin does not go up like hoped.

    So are we looking at a potential spike in power supply while mining? Could that have then damaged something on the motherboard?
    Probably goes to show, use higher end power supplies if leaving computer on for long periods of time.

      yeah I have the same PSU Greg replaced it with (Corsair RM850X) I've had it for probably 5yrs and I use my pc for some pretty intense video editing and upscaling. I often leave my pc on all day and all night sometimes if i'm upscaling an especially long video with my rtx 2070 Super running overclocked at 99% the whole time and my psu takes it like a champ. i am waiting for the day my gpu craps out on me though, that's gonna be a sad day, and hopefully I have some money to buy a new one lol.

    Hmm... I think I have a good idea what happens. I have issue with SSD lockup, which I believe it's the case. There's nothing wrong with all the system, and the SSD is not faulty at all. The reason behind this is when the SSD controller reads the journal and somehow comes up with an error. The controller then hanged because it didn't know what to do and kept sending a busy signal to your motherboard, which make it couldn't post. I don't know if this case is similar to yours but that's my experience. I just power off the system, do a deep cleaning (removing every component, dusting and whatever) then reassemble the PC and the PC boots up. Of course, I sent back the system to its owner but the owner return back to me cited the same problem after a few weeks, and he did mention that his system sometimes doesn't want to post at all. I'll change the SSD if I were you, because that's a tell-tale sign that the controller of the SSD might have degraded and became unstable.

    The problem is probably the SATA cable itself. It might have been a found cable that was from another power supply, with a different wiring to the pins. Seen that damage components too, which may have caused the failure or other components
