It's cool to see the Linus guys sponsoring creators who actually use the screwdriver
Not in this video though :>
Probably filmed too early
Perfect series for LTT to advertise the screwdriver
How much???
was not expecting to see them sponsor anything lol
@@dillonvillonwell they do have an actual CEO now
Except everything on LTT store is ridiculously overpriced. They charge like 300 dollars for a backpack, it's crazy
Now RUclipsrs can sponsor LTT products(but they have to get a approval), not only Screwdrivers.
This AIO problem really needs more attention. At this point manufacturers should be called out on this
The only solution: Don't buy AIOs anymore
iBuyPower is notorious for failing aio's...
@@Corsafahrer All the watercooling craze from last decade because of the "cool" factor was a mistake.
Aircooling keeps demonstrating that it's the way to go for the vast majority of systems, especially prebuilts that are directed to the non tech savvy. But OEMs and SIs pumped those cheap AOIs into mainstream like crazy and now the unaware suckers that bought them are paying the price.
People tend to think AIO's are better than air when a decent $50-$80 air cooler performs the same if not better than AIO's too. Tower coolers just dont have that flashy RGB people love lol
Yep.. I have AIO in both my personal PC and my work PC. I have been telling myself, once these go out, i am going back to air cooling. Much less hassle, fan goes bad? much cheaper than buying another full AIO.
I absolutely love how the ram sticks bounce off their rgb lighting on the dark rock 4's fan!
I really liked that too!
This episode has it all.
- Bent CPU
- iBuyPower shoddiness
- Cute kid
- Getting PC to post w/o a cooler
- Sponsorship
- Trouble fitting RAM due to massive air cooler
- AIO gunk that quickly transformed this episode from a computer problem diagnosis to something that vaguely resembles that of a medical drama.
Ehh, it’s missing the cat.
@@shadestrider1033 pepsi
I could smell that gunk through the screen.
*AIO smegma 😢😂😂

It's nice to see Greg helping out smaller channels like Linus, one day they'll be as big as Greg.
Huh?????? Linus has a whole company and 15 million subs
@@sith_gamer1010 woosh
@@sith_gamer1010really ?
😂 I was thinking exactly the opposite. I don't know if this is trolling or pure ignorance?
Greg channel is WAY smaller than Linus Tech Tips. Linus Media Group have like over 100 employees now and over 15 millions of subscribers just on their main channel and they have like 8 different channels or something now. Greg records his videos alone at home. I'm not even sure if he have an actual cameraman on most of his videos now.
This is nothing against Greg, I love his videos. Greg's videos are awesome and have great quality content. I really love the Fix & Flop series or the series at Micro Center. It is really nice to see RUclipsr using his money he made from RUclips to help others for free.
Seriously, if LTT was a small channel, how could they manage to make their own screwdrivers on their own online store shipping worldwide? It is not a cheap Chinese screwdrivers with a name on it, it is a custom one, made following their own specs. Just this screwdriver alone took literally years to engineer, looking at many different parts suppliers, control quality, etc.
@@fireztonez-teamepixcraft3993no way you typed all that for a joke you missed 💀
Seeing that bent CPU hurt my heart... I have never in 35+ years of building PCs ever seen that one. Thank you for helping this person get their system back up and running 😊
Building pcs for 30+ years now and never saw this one. Really wondering what that guy did to reach that. Not to the point it hurts my heart, I’m still wondering how. And the part I’m really interested in, how can you put a CPU so in the socket it will bend a corner when you close the socket?
@@gilles111 With the power of the force anything is possible. 🤣I managed to chip the corner of the die on my old AMD Duron 1200mhz with too rough cooler installation back in the day. But then again it still worked just fine afterwards. 🙂
known issue with kaby lake -> rocket lake CPUs. intel made the PCBs thinner to save cost, which made them more likely to bend if inserted incorrectly. some foxconn sockets were also known to cause bending even on correctly installed chips.
For me, this is twice now. The first one was an intel chip [don't remember what one] while mounted and working, the cooler was too tight. After some time, the system wouldn't run. When the chip heated up, it was slowly bending. This caused the chip to completely fail.
Hey Greg, I work at an independent computer repair shop in Ga & I have seen dozens of these iBuypower & Cyber power 120mm AIO coolers come in with the exact same issue. The companies need to issue a recall but we both know that won't happen, So I guess it's up to us to help people out.
True I bought a Cyberpower PC from Best Buy and had to exchange it twice cuz the usb ports on the back I/O would fail after a day or two......the third time I exchanged it for an Ibuypower prebuilt, was like 300 bucks more than the cyberpower.....it had good specs at a good price, but in a silly case.....it looked like a vacuum cleaner from the 1960s....but it ran solid for 6-7 years......and Ive heard a lot of bad things about ibuypower, so i guess I got lucky.....in fact Im gonna rebuild it and repurpose it into a dedicated vintage gaming PC
I hate to say it but iBuyPower is known on every forum for having an aio problem... Their pumps fail in under a year almost every time
@@aaronbrown2673 it's not like iBuyPower is manufacturing these AIOs. The problem goes deeper than iBuyPower. The manufacturer for these is also making them for other companies.
I just had my AIO in my IBuyPower PC replaced. If I had kept it, I bet it would have worse than this one.
from a consumer standpoint, it sucks that it fails almost like clockwork, but from a sales standpoint, it is good, cuz then they can sell more shit, so i don't think it "a defect", from a sales perspective, now, if they advertise that it wont go bad in say 5 years, MINIMUM, then it is fraud, but if not, well, no legal grounds to stand on sadly
The fact that you're changing your policy on not being willing to take on rigs that involve being shipped to you, just so you can help eleviate this increasing issue that no one else is talking about, shows how comendable you are. Not as not just a PC repair person, but an overal human being. People put a lot of money into their builds/pre-builds, and they shouldn't be screwed over, and you're helping fix that. Good for you.
An Unfortunate owner of two IBuyPower Pre-Builts here. Unfortunately, I can say that they all get gunked like this in about 2-3 years. This was one of the main reasons that pushed me into learning to build my own rig, and I learned a lot from you. Thank you, Greg!
Exactly my experience as well. 😢
Same
Get air cooling. Liquid cooling is a disgrace
I've seen quite a few bent pens, even the tiny resistors torn off the top. First time I can recall seeing one actually bent like that.
I have seen a few 6th and 7th gen Intel CPUs bent like that. Iirc they used a thinner substrate and just the force only the clamping mechanism could be t them over time. I started to loosen the ilm 1/4 turn and have not had an issue with many PCs that have been running for years.
2:42. Have you seen my shaft? 😂🤣😂
GET YOUR MIND OUT OF THE GUTTER :-D
Hey Greg, would you ever consider making a video on how to clean and fix these gunk issue on AIOs? I know 100% that it is a manufacturer issue and they should be held liable, but given my experience with RMA issues/delays, some people, like myself, would rather fix the issue themselves and not deal with crappy RMA processes.
Your genuine passion for helping others is what makes you and this series so great. I have a computer business as well and always try to go the extra mile to help others. Love this series.
Your proactive help on these AIO issues is very admirable, great work and congrats on such a great video series.
This series has made me think twice about getting an AIO for my new gaming pc that should be arriving next week. Husband has always been an "only air cooling allowed in this house" kind of person, so he would have taken lots of convincing, but watching Greg certainly saved me the effort. Thanks for the videos!
This series is the perfect place to put the LTT screwdriver sponsorship segment. I can see Greg fixing a TON of systems with it and maybe his house too.
You have a kind heart Greg. Happy to see you are helping so many out with their PC issues. Great focus on these problematic aio's.
This happened with my old EVGA hybrid cooler too, I think it's a particular water source is that one of the manufacturing companies is using.
Thank you for continuing this series, its one of my favorites on RUclips
That’s why I always thought AIOs would eventually kick the bucket and after a lot of researching last year, I chose the Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4 for my i7 12700 and really happy with the temps
I've learned so much watching this series, thank you Greg!
Glad to hear it!
@GregSalazar great is thre a way you can send me a pc for free
@@GregSalazar will you be on the lttcon???
@@GregSalazarWhat's your plan with the clogged AIOs? You didn't mention if you're fixing them or for research.
Been a quiet follower for awhile. Reminds me a lot of my early pc building and troubleshooting days. its cool to see your able to start reaching out beyond the Florida. Keep on keeping on brutha! 🤟
I just want to say you're a great guy you go above and beyond to help everyone having issues. Keep up this great work and keep these videos coming. And hello from California.
Greg, watching your vids have help a lot. Had several problems this weekend. From watching your videos, I managed to fix my friends pc and my own this past weekend
Hi Greg,
(All the way from Australia)
Wanted to thank you for letting me know about the Lian Li Galahad recall on AIO's, my Temps very hitting 90+ intermittently ( early stages minor clog i suspect) on tmy 5900x causing my machine to reboot for a little bit. It caused me to decide to drop the TDP down to 65w & even undervolt just to get by not knowing what had changed (also being not able to replace it financially at the time).
Fast forward i sent a quick email to LianLi a week & a half ago, confirmed its within the date range of that potentially faulty units & after a few short emails had my new one on its way (direct from factory) which was very interesting. Just received my new one yesterday the process was so easy! Thanks again will be installing the new one & raising my TDP back up to what it should be!!
Thanks to u Greg I just built my second rig it is all brand new and watching your for the last year-and-a-half it is fully up with no problem
Greg, bless your soul for doing as much as you can, which is admittedly a lot given your platform and insight. One person might not be a difference in the short term, but one is infinitely larger than zero. Keep up the amazing work!
I saw the ad coming and tuned out while I went back to what I was working on then I hear "trust me bro" and when I look back sure enough it is the LTT screwdriver. I went back and watched the ad again, it was good work, well done :)
Totally agree with you. Keep up the great work and glad for people like you.
Gotta say, between all the clogging AIOs these days, and that sleek looking Be Quiet air cooler, I think I may be scooping one of those up next platform upgrade.
Nice video as always, Greg. Well done, bud.
I run a computer repair shop in Minnesota! I really enjoy this channel and playlist! It helps me hone my troubleshooting skills! I’ve also been inspired to do a community education class for kids interested in building their own pc and not sure where to start! Thanks for the content! Enjoying the PC Builds from micro center too!
You're the best! Seriously!! I love the genuine approach of all your videos, which truly puts a smile on my face. Keep it up greg!
You should send the fluid to a lab. I'm working if who is building these coolers is using tap water and some kind of bad coolant mix.
always nerve wracking when youre waiting for that post at the end. great to see that the channel is growing everyday and a sponsor from ltt too!
+1 had that same AIO in my 5900x setup. Started with stutters and slightly high temps to quickly crashing from CPU over temp. AIO looked exactly like this. Thank you for your videos. They're a huge help.
Greg goes above and beyond for his viewers. Keep up the great work!
Dude, thank you for the videos you create. Not only do you fix, but you teach along the way. I am only about 7 months into the PC Gaming world, and have swapped out most of the pre-built components. I was intimidated of building my own, when honestly I shouldn't have been. I would have saved so much money just building first versus purchasing a pre-built.
Just good solid consumer journalism. Nice one Greg.
Great job. Thanks for doing this series and helping as much as you can awesome Karma for you.
The Linus sponsorship is amazing, I’d die to represent this man in any paid or unpaid capacity
Did anyone else notice that both fans on the AIO were pulling air as Greg was disassembling the PC?
Great work. Kind regards from Portugal 🇵🇹
I have an ibuypower prebuilt with a 240 AIO - mine is definitely newer than this viewers was, but seeing this clogging happening over and over again is really making me consider switching over to air cooling (or just a better AIO). Using hwinfo to monitor cpu temps is a must!
Great job!
fixed my own pc just by following some of the same stuff youve done thanks greg!
I also have a 9th Gen Ibuypower machine that the AIO stopped cooling correctly. Didn't take the time to open up the 240 iBuyPower AIO to check but issue went away with the new Corsair 240 H100i. I threw out the bad AIO pre Fix or Flop MSI fiasco. Luckily techy enough to find the issue and replace on my own. Thank you Greg for bringing more awareness to this issue.
dudeee love that RUclips companies are sponsoring RUclipsrs Ltt absolute heros
First thing I thought of when Greg was fishing out that gunk was, Ooooh, Pudding! 🤣
Just built a new PC (6th time - last was 9 years ago). This series helped me avoid issues. It posted on the first try :-) Thanks.
Love the LTT screwdriver add
:-D
As someone who used to have an iBuyPower aio before switching it to a 240mm h100 capellix, it's sad to see ANY aio get that kind of build up. Mine ran for a year before I was seeing high temps. If I waited a year longer, it'd have been much worse. Thanks to one of Greg's videos on clogged aios, I checked and replaced mine with my current aio.
Awesome video as always :)
Fantastic work as usual
Thanks again!
I love every one of these! So much knowledge
I really appreciate that!
@GregSalazar I appreciate the vids. I built a computer in 05 and recently got back into pc gaming again. You, Linus and the toasty Bros have helped tremendously on my endeavor and it's been enjoyable because of these kinds of instructional vids!
I had a Corsair H110 280mm AIO since about 2014. I recently gave it to my bro to cool my old i9-9900K, that I gave to him, and it's been working like a champ.
This was a good one Greg. And a LTT sponsor 👌👏👏
I replaced a 240mm AIO in a prebuilt iBuyPower due to it not working, good to know it wasn’t a one-off. Good stuff, keep it up!
I love the ad you did on the LTT screwdriver. Another gloged cooler, will it ever end?
Great upgrade!
Love the vids and also Be Quiet products. Build my system with utter silence in mind and their fans, power supply, case and cooler all help achieve that.
Keep up the good work.
120ml AiO's seem to have this 2 year term. It doesn't matter what brand and I expect they all come from the same factory. I replaced a PSU and blamed my GPU for issues that ended when I replaced the AiO with a 212.
This is why I love my nzxt krakon it costs a lot but it shows my cpu and gpu temps in real time without having to use a second monitor or numbers clogging up your screen for gaming
I actually loved the ambience lighting the ram threw onto the bequiet cooler fan.
Thought I would never see your ad that screwdriver lol but all good heard good things about it
Love this series.
Was listening while doing something else, accidentally clicked another fix or flop link, and I couldn't understand the sequence of event or the logic i was so lost 😂
You should do a mix up of many of your videos it would make no sense at all and be really crazy 🤣
I'm just glad I purchased Arctic Freezer Air cooler fan from my gaming PC. After watching Greg's videos about failed AIO. Really helps me decide
Regarding the AIO clogging: I've seen a few videos online of people repairing it by draining the cooler, cleaning the cold plate with alcohol and a toothbrush and then replacing the coolant. Since these coolers are lost causes anyway, it would be interesting to see if this repair can actually work. I suppose that if the pump isn't too damaged, then it should be theoretically possible.
I've personally ditched water coolers, gone back to air coolers. Some run just as good as big water coolers but with zero risk
I have a Corsair aio. It has been running for about 5 years. My cpu never gets above 40 Celsius. I have a 6500 i5. I feel amazed that mine has lasted this long. When I have seen so many on your channel.
I had that same issue with the same AIO, unfortunately i wasn't able to uncover the back case to see if it was clogged, but i changed my AIo to a Pure Rock 2 Pro i think it is. I used your video that talked about how to tell if your AIO pump died. Thank you. My prebuilt is also from Ibuypower so yeah, i would rather be air cooler from now on.
Never thought Linus would sponsor a Greg video.
Was genuinely impressed with the screwdriver when I first got my hands on it. I know it isn't the cheapest thing in the world, but the quality truly is top-notch.
Exact same thing happened with my iBuypower AIO a couple of years ago. Watching this video gave me flashbacks.
Tower coolers FTW. I used to have an AIO because I thought it looked cool, and it does, but it got hotter and hotter over time. Switched to the Dark Rock Pro 4 and it went down 10 degrees. A friend of mine also had an AIO (msi) and overnight it went up from 30 to 80 degrees idle. Gave him my old Dark Rock 4 and now we all good.
I still love the "trust me bro limited lifetime warranty" no flak on it its just a RLLY funny thing to hear.
I was reluctant to choose AIO or a Tower cooler while I was trying to shrink down my PC size and remove custom water loop as I was moving to SG for work. Now I truly believed that I purchase a tower cooler which is less maintenance and hassle free.
Really enjoy the Viewer's Broken PC videos!
It’s cool to see Greg support smaller RUclipsrs like that Linus guy
AIO-> planned obsolescence? I am so glad I went with air cooling, 7 years ago. Still running great!
I had a Fractal AIO that did the same thing, I switched to a Scythe Fuma 2 and things are good now.
A good idea would be to have an ssd with windows and test the system (temperatures and stability) to see if the system works 100%. Good video, keep up with the great work!!
There are even enclosures for NVME drives now that use USB3.2, so it would be even easier to plug in.
Tip for newbie PC builders: if it doesnt fit, dont force it (for ram check that the alignment cut is aligned correctly with the motherboards DIMM slot)
greg, last week i was doing maintanance on my pc, cooler master master liquid 240 was over heating like crazy working on 90c...ofcourse i pulled my 5600x with the pump block combo, bent 3 pins...luckyly fixed it easy and cleaned the fans and the aio from dust. and ....put way 2 much paste last time.this time after making that all maintanance on it lowerd temps by 25 to 30 c
that ouch hurts
i always think about that, 99% of youtubers place cpu on the socket too fast, and people that knows nothing dont realize that you must spend the most time there, checking everycorner is in, and fits perfectly before trying to close the hinge
This is the best written email to Greg yet!
I have a prebuilt (cyberpowerpc) and I have a similar aio. I bought it in early 2020. My temps aren’t unusual but with all the recent problems I think I will swap it out soon.
Mine had the same problem. I tossed the cooler and put in a Noctua fan..works perfect.
Good call on the air cooler. After all I have seen with AIOs... I don't want one unless it's the only way to cool the CPU. And even then I would look for other CPU/case options.
That LTT screwdriver ad was gold haha
LTT Shill!
J/K! Great to see the sponsorship!
I went from an air cooler to an AIO back to an air cooler. AIOs are neat n all and great if you're doing OC but they're not particularly needed. If you have a case that has a lot of airflow through it then all you need is a nice air cooler. I currently have Fractal Meshify case with a Scythe Fuma cooler and a bunch of Artic Cooling fans.
Exact same pre build from I buy power. 3 years of use, same issue. I actually got a new rig since. Once I had the new build I took apart that IBuyPower aio & it looked exactly the same. I did however manage to clean out nasty growth/gunk/slime off of the micro fins & refill the loop, Resealed the rubber gasket & hooked it back up. Thing runs at 32 degrees now & charted well above it’s expected performance level. Was going to sell it but I think it might come in hand in the future.
WOW Awesome glad you switched him air cooler. I went to be quiet myself getting away from water cooler i have. its cooler master its actually really good and still working. i don't like it because there so so many wires like 10 its stupid it has rgb but theres no need for that many. WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR GLASSES FROM AND WHAT BRAND. I LOVE THEM I USE ROUND GLASSES TOO
i had a similar problem in my 5 year old computer about 10 months ago. Basically the case fans started running full speed out of the blue and it was because the CPU was overheating with temps 85 degrees plus at idle. I could not feel any vibrations in the AIO tubing so i assumed the pump had died. I did try repasting with new thermal paste and no change in temps so i replaced it with a new air cooler and everything better.
And here's me thinking the AIO manufacturers had sorted this problem. Oh Well, I put a DeepCool 360 AIO in my son's machine and an ID-Cooling Frostflow X280 AIO in my wife's machine. I guess I'll be checking them every 3 months from now on. Of course I put a Scythe Fuma 2 in mine but I thought I'd do something a bit special for them. Seems like that was a mistake. BTW congrats on the LTT sponsorship.
You should have made the sentence "this pc needs some repairs, just like my repairs from out Sponsor... LTT Store Screwdriver :D" just an idea if you do any future LTT Sponsor somehow :) great video :)
All these clogged AIO's make me think a good air cooler is a better way to go. Never have to worry about clogged cooler.
Your help is appreciated. I used AIOs since they first came out. I've always had two questions: Why do the manufacturers use tubes that are opaque? Clear tubs would at least show whether the liquid is or isn't flowing and give you some idea of the temperature of the coolant. Why do these tubes lack a replaceable filter? I would like to add both to my AIO. Do you think I could do this?
For those big tower coolers, check clearances and use low profile DIMMs if clearances are an issue.
These AIOs must use crap coolants.
That is biofilm sludge (bad smell = microbes).
Great video as always Greg.
