- MK4 R32 cat back exhaust sound test, acceleration testing with stock cat back exhaust, vs 42 Draft Design 3" cat back exhaust. The DIY part of the cat back exhaust installation is very easy and only requires a few tools. We will also be looking at the DB difference in exhaust set ups. Nice video once again Charles. Not to be a bad news bear. I just replaced my exhaust with a non resonated Milltek exhaust. I didn’t need to cut my heat shield what so ever.

My R came with a Gruppe M Carbon intake. It's a beauty.
IMO, the engine sounds sweet with either exhaust.

That V6 noise is the greatest on the planet, AFTER the Alfa Busso. Honestly I've paid attention to them all in my life, but these two are just incredible on the ears. Could listen to it all day.
Nice upgrade. I think it sounds much deeper than stock. More rolling thunder and less wasp in a cookie tin.

I gave up on exhaust systems. Living in California, the cops just pull you over for this kind of stuff. I think Charles would make it about a week here if not less before he would be pulled over. I think CA law is it has to be under 100db's. I am not exactly sure. What I do know is there are random check points in California that actually test for this, its nuts. It is what it is, buyer beware if your in CA. The R32 is looking great Charles, good job.

Another fantastic job brotha! I know I speak for myself as well as countless others when I say you've given me the confidence to tackle jobs I otherwise never would've attempted. I honestly can't thank you enough. As far as the exhaust goes, it is a subtle difference but both sound amazing! After hearing countless set-ups, I think the cat-back I'm leaning towards for my MkV .:R would be from Neuspeed. It delivers a true eargasm...just my personal opinion though lol

I have the magnaflow exhaust on my MK6 Golf R. The turbo four cylinder's sound is no comparison to the sound that VR6 puts out lol. Just amazing
I had to put on my reference headphones to hear the difference. Especially at start up, the stock exhaust has more rasp while the 42DD exhaust has more burble. This is especially noticeable below 3k RPM. However the hard acceleration while parked, above about 3.5k RPM they sound very very similar. Almost indistinguishable to my ear. Great clip showing several different conditions with stock vs aftermarket. Among the best I've seen to date. Thanks for creating this!

Holy hell @ $900. I could make that exhaust for probably $300 or so in materials including the mufflers. Some mandrel bends, a v-band, round bar scraps for the hanger, and a couple tips.The Magnaflow's are a great choice and sound great on everything I've installed them on for sure. The Vibrant ones are also a good choice for a cheaper muffler that won't blow out the wadding. The V-bands are the only way to go so at least it uses them over a regular flange. Lol @ the parking garage test. I'm sure some folks loved that. Great way to plug that vacuum line is a golf tee. That's what I've done to delete them in the past. Gotta love the VR. Sounds great with nearly any exhaust configuration out there.

Love them both lol. The high flow cats are the biggest change. You need to do the same with the mk5.
a turbo would really lower the noise level, it seems incredibly loud.
130db is like really loud.
I always thought the best sounds on a vr6 are NO muffler, but running two resonators.

Sure miss my mk4 R32 (and B7 RS4). But had a close call with crank end float meaning a new engine needed. Luckily had 3 weeks left of my extended warranty! 😅

HumbleMechanic I agree! I can't tell you how many times that darn red straw has popped off and shot across things in things behind things. I have a drawer in my tool box that I've saved that little red straw so I don't lose my mind trying to retrieve that darn thing. Amen to the flex reach!
Lol...I thought I was the only one with a little parts drawer dedicated to red straws.
I tossed mine about a year ago

I had a MK5 GTI VR6 with magnaflow exhaust. This obviously sounds much better, but man how I miss that VR6 sound. Have a MK7 Golf R now and while it’s much faster, I always have a bit of regret that I didn’t hold onto the MK5. Prayers for a new Golf R with a VR6.
Sounds great! But there’s a secondary resonance or vibration while accelerating at 3k on the 42 that would annoy me.

Have the same 3" 42DD setup, along with an Argon Addicts HFC pipe (2.25" inlets, 3" outlet) and the video is up on my page, but my setup has nearly no drone whatsoever, and its soon to have Supersprint headers attached.. when warm, at 3k and above this setup absolutley screams, i think you made the perfect choice my friend!

He had a tricked out Chevy MONZA , I was supposed to get it as a hand down but cancer bills 20 years ago and he was offered a price.... Guy flipped it 15x a week later in a street race and almost died, in hospital for weeks.... Pic still on my fridge. He said his was, "327 bored .30 over 400 heads 1.87 intake and 2.02 exhaust - 11:1 compression". Wow he remembers it well haha.

Not a big fan of VW, but Vr engines are so well made, and sound amazing.
I think it looks real nice and getting the tips in allighnment is a pain . As for the sound i feel it should be alot louder but that's just preference.

I'm gonna get the dial sweep , that is pure horn. but I've noticed the clocks and upgrades centre digital display. have you done a vid on this? the bora sport illuminated vents and w8 interior light are best mods I've done on the inside. w8 light is epic . but keep up the work , really appreciate this work on the R 🤙

will check vid now. they look on point. w8 light first night you drive it, the red glow gives it such a cool vibe. And when i got the car milltek non res cat back i hit the car park and local tunnels 😂. Its car that makes grown men giggle like small boys
That after market set-up sounded better. The stock w/ Hi-flo cats sounded raspy, whereas the after market was as you said, throatier, deeper. Less a screech and more of a growl. Mo betta.

For ordinary users, Bluetooth OBD scanners are more suitable. They can also do full-system diagnosis and also provide special tools like Reset BLEED, Reset TBMS, Reset TDPF, Reset Oil, Immobilizer/Keys and so on. EZcheck and EasyDiag are both good choice.
Looks like I'll need to make a trip to 42dd for my 8p Quattro. Those are some good looking welds on the vband.

Your left tip is fitted higher than your right exhaust tip. The new exhaust setup up is much better, so much v6 rumbles 👌
