Where can you put a front license plate?
I knew that overtime someone would come out with one of these where you didn't have to cut the plastic bumper. Best option while keeping the stock look.
Is it as sturdy and why is everyone complaining about it not being flush?
@@darkassassin1987 I just picked mine up from the post office. This thing is HEAVY and I think it comes in at 120+ pounds. If it gets bent then it's getting hit pretty damn hard.
the fact you guys make these videos is so helpful considering i buy 100% of my parts from you lol
Thanks a bunch for watching, Jon! -Zach
Good video, clear and concise instructions. This is something that I am now going to consider for my Tacoma as it looks easy to install and doesn’t cut up the original bumper.
Thanks for watching, Mike! -Zach
No trimming that’s a nice option.
Where have you been all my life??? Fantastic video. Thank you so very much.
Thanks for watching! -Zach
So I removed the bumper and broke a plastic black clip that is connected to the headlight. That’s something to be noted when removing the bumper. But overall the bumper is great! Not much support for the middle of the stock bumper after the install for TRD off-road version. I’ll figure something out. Still impressed with the new 9500 lb Approve winch/bumper combo. I’m stoked and thanks for the vid giving me more confidence.
This was super helpful! Thank you
Thanks for watching, Carter! Make sure to subscribe if you want to see more! -Zach
I just bought the DV8 Winch Mount for my 2020 Tacoma TRD 4x4 Sport.
It was well packaged that's for sure, w/them using that expanding foam material for keeping the components in place in the box for shipping, though it was a pain to remove the parts because of it. 😉
I was able to install the winch mount w/o removing the bumper by simply removing the center section only, together w/the grill. You will need to remove those plastic side baffles as well to help in accessing the center section clips. With the grill removed, and the side baffles removed, you can get to the center section clips and undo them.
Installing the oil cooler relocation brackets, my kit came w/no bolts for doing so, so I had to look around house for a couple, including nuts and lock washers.
As for that oil cooler mounting bolt behind the passenger side wheel well, there's no bracket for that one, so it's left hanging.
With the oil cooler relocated, it makes contact w/the A/C condenser behind it, on the passenger side of the condenser. When tightening down the relocation brackets, I tried to keep it away as much as possible from any contact w/the A/C condenser.
I got the winch mounting plate, as well as the two plates for mounting the front face installed. There appears to be just enough mounting treads, though normally you want at least two or three threads shown w/the nut tightened. I wish torque values were noted. I normally like to torque my bolts, especially when it comes to something like this winch mount.
The next thing to see tomorrow, is if I can install my Warn M8000 winch through that bumper center section opening. If not, I may have to remove the bumper after all. We'll see.
Outside of those oil cooler relocation missing bolts, a mounting bracket for the oil cooler mount behind the passenger side front wheel, as well as a concern for the contact of the oil cooler w/the A/C condenser, the kit appears to be well made, including being powder coating. Again, I wish torque values were noted someplace. I like to torque my bolts, especially when it comes to a winch mount.
As for that light mount, some photos show it welded on, while others show it as bolted on. Mine is bolted, but not installed. I plan to keep it off, at least for now.
Finally, Merideth and ExtremeTerrain did a great job at producing this video. It both help me in my decision to buy the DV8 winch mount but was extremely helpful w/it's installation.
Update:
I finished up installing my winch mount today. Wanted to install my winch, but I was running out of time.
Had an issue w/the winch mount center piece. One of the brackets was slightly bent. It looks like it might have been from the welding.
Got that straightened and finished up installing.
Had to play around a little to get things as straight and aligned as possible.
Also installed the winch roller fairlead, which looks a little odd, being aimed down at an angle.
Hope to get the winch installed next week.
The setup looks great, and once again, I didn't have to remove the bumper to install.
@@gordie2377 appreciate your thorough review gordie
This is perfect as i have the same exact truck I too did nit receive any hardware for the mounting plate which is pretty frustrating. Touching parts makes me concerned, almost wish I saw your comment before buying or I think I would have a change of heart. How has it treated you thus far if you still have it?
Great vid.................do you have a video about the winch install? Thanks
do sports not have front bumper absorbers, or was it removed previously with this truck? Main reason im thinking of getting this bumper is due to no cutting, as well as stock trim piece being garbage, ive broke mine twice and now its just a absorber showing where the cover was which annoys me. Also what about the fender adhesive? doest that have to be replaced before putting front bumper back on? Also if not installing a winch, does the cooler not have to be moved back? Id love to put this bumper on and the skid plate, but a aftermarket skid plate not coming with a door for the oil filter like the trd pro seems kind of silly.
Pretty easy installation overall with this video but the plastic was way harder to take off for me and I broke some clip on it, but I have no patience ! Still ok to put this back in a correct way.
Bumper and winch look good now and ready to get stuck
The winch mounts higher than the Fairlead. This makes the cable rub on the base plate. It also prevents a straight pull. The cable has to go down...rubbing on the base plate...then make about a 30 degree turn against the top fairlead and up to the pull.. I'm considering sending it back.
Cut out the DV8 and get some mounting holes for the fair lead. I believe whoever designed it swapped the logo with the fair lead position.
as compared to the stock bumper, how much does this add to the length?
if your not going to use the wench, can you not use the plate and skip moving the colant?
can’t accurately answer your question, but i saw something posted on an old Tacomaworld forum, so yes, i believe you can skip moving the coolant if you don’t put on the plate. wish i would’ve know this before i did the install a few months ago.
Mine arrives this week. How much can the Tacoma frame pull tho lol? Would a 15,000 winch rip off the front end??
The slot for winch cable in to low. I had to cut a new slot above the original slot
Tried to install today. Bought directly from DV8 off-road. Didn’t come with all the hardware to mount bumper. Trying to figure out the light bar installation & not sure how it mounts. Ohh and the bumper could use work on figment DV8
Yeah us too and no instructions
Yep mine too and delivery sucks Took way longer than it was supposed to 12 days he had to find your own fasteners hardware store don’t know if I’ll order anything else!!
If I plan not using a winch, can I leave the plate out of the install? This way I don't have to move my coolant lines....
I wouldn't say that you have to use it, but I would recommend putting a spacer in it's place for the correct fitment. If you really don't plan on using a winch, you could even cut the center section out to use the ends as your spacers and added support. Hope this helps! -Merideth
What about the third bolt on cooler line?
They do not give you the bracket for it I had to make one A lot of fasteners were not there hardware store is our friend
How do you access the winch free spool lever? Nowhere on any of these bumpers can I see how you get to it.
You make a solid point! You should be able to access it trough the engine bay surprisingly. Might just need a stool to reach down far enough, lol! We haven't tested this but with how much room you have in-between the grille and rad you should be able to reach it.
Great question
Did anyone have an issue with this not matching the contours on 2021 TRD off-road?
Mine didn't line on on my 21 offroad that well with the body lines but it's not terrible.
23 O/R and mine doesn’t mesh nearly that well. But it’s tolerable.
20” light bar from 4wd king DOES NOT fit. I’m not even sure what to do with this now...
Update, found out a way to install it, have to file down about an eighth inch from each end to fit it. Voids warranty on light bar so beware.
What is the install time for this winch bumper?
I would budget about two or three hours to get these bumper installed based on how organized your tools are. 😉 -Zach
You hit the radiator fins with the 10mm wrench 😬😬
Anyone else have an issue with the cooler relocation, mine would. Ot move straight back, when I finally did get it to move back at all my lines were hitting the sway bar mount. I'm worried it's going to rub a hole in the lines.
I added a couple washers under the bracket at the front to raise it above the lines.
Do you know where i ken buy in MEXICO?
Where can I get the light bar for the bull bar?
Any 20" straight LED light bar will be compatible! Check them out here! ---> www.extremeterrain.com/2016-tacoma-led-light-bars.html/f/?ta$6=20%20to%2029%20Inch
all that surface rust on OEM hardware scares me
Ended up buying from dv8 on the Extreme T. Website. No complaints, The packaging had extreme care, and hardware was 8.8 grade. I used a 12k winch, overall happy and adding scratches to it. My factory frame has no rust yet, maybe depends on what state you’re from
Where can a front plate go? I don't have a winch.
We would recommend a fairlead front plate mount! You can check them out on the site here! --> www.extremeterrain.com/tacoma-license-plates-frames.html
will it fit a 2022 tacoma???
Yes this will fit a 2022 Tacoma!
I live in Mass, where do I mount the front liscence plate?
if you google, dv8 has an addon for $40 thats a movable license plate cover
I used the original license plate holder. Some minor trimming on the back. Drilled two holes on the bumper and bolted it on in front of the DV8 logo
Do I need to beef up the front suspension with this setup?
You won't need to by any means! The added weight may cause your front-end to sag slightly but by no means is a lift or spacer to compensate necessary. -Zach
@@ExtremeTerrainToyota What about adding a whinch to the bumber? should I change my front shocks?
😂😂
This video helped me make up my mind to do the DV8 bumper on my Tacoma. Will you come help?
Glad I could help!! Thanks for watching! :) -Merideth
Add a light behind you with someone holding it to light up the area where you are working.
I’ve seen a few of these get pretty rusty over a short period of time
just unwrapped mine, if its rusty then it's had a thick coating rubbed off, there's literally nothing I can see that would actually rust because i can't see any exposed metal/
That huge DV8 logo is very disappointing. Just that would deter me from buying this bumper. It would be great if they creat something there for the front license plate.
they have a retractable license plate cover that hides the winch slot and it goes up when you need to winch. i had to get one to be street legal in colorado.
does the technician have an instagram? xD
Love this product went to website to put it in my cart I have an account did a quick survey and had a coupon code put the coupon code in and it only gave me .50 off it was supposed to be $50 dollars off and they would not honor that code . So I took everything out of my cart and I will no longer do business with them that is deceiving customers. But that was just my experience. Good luck everybody!!
Hey, Leonard! I'm not aware of current promotions but are you sure it wasn't for $50 off your next order? Back when I worked in customer service we often had sales like that. Seeing the $.50 off your current order confirmed that you'd be receiving the discount code for your NEXT order afterwards. Give us a call if you have any questions and we'd be happy to help you out. 1-877-870-8556 -Zach
Take the splash shield off man!
Save yourself some headaches and dont remove the bumper cover. Just grab the center section at the bottom and yank hard. The plactic clips she removed will snap in half
You messed up buddy with all those tattoos on you
What?
Are you ok
Okay boomer
Too funny. 🙄
Questions for tattoos like this are:
'How long did your sleeve take?'
'How many sessions?'
'Are you going to add any color?'
She looks fine and talented too. That's all matter. Keep up the good work.
