      @@grs3579 Dont fall for the marketing of the LFA. The LFA sound good, did handle great but it was an Single clutch Auto GT with the worst electronics and UI one of the best modern GTs and not the "lap times car" everyone thinks because of the 50 N package not comparable in that matter with the 918 and P1 which were also drivers car but more performance oriented.
      Performance wasn't THAT "great" a far older Mclaren F1 or a CGT is more than 10 seconds faster than the regular LFA on the ring on a manual and older recalled tires for the CGT, is also faster on Morocco, Hockenheim, etc. As a drivers car the F1, CGT and the famous analogs car does a better job. Because you're not gonna be driving a LFA daily, not with it's CRAZY maintenance costs. Also i do think the best production engine belongs to the F1 and the CGT. Those are real Leman's winners engine, and are as reliable as they could be for the performance.

    I come back to this periodically just to hear Doug’s reaction to that sound. I was inside one of these in Las Vegas and was talking to the owner and he says, “No one truly appreciates the reason for spending this sort of money for a Lexus until they have sat inside it while it’s moving along at a good hustle. Wanna go for a quick spin?” I handed my bags off to the concierge and went for a rip. Absolutely intoxicating sounds. Just brilliant. The sound is beyond perfect and nothing I have been in since even comes close. A lot of VERY cool cars out there, but not with that same sound experience in the cab. Packaging should definitely be a priority when designing sports cars. Proportions and weight distribution matter, and V6 engines can put out quite a bit of power relative to their size (especially with forced induction). As for balance issues, those are corrected with shafts. The people behind formula 1 aren't idiots. They know how to design a performance car.

    You forgot to mention one of, if not the coolest, facts about the LFA. The “Yamaha” brand that develops guitar’s and actually constructed this custom exhaust themselves and that’s why it sounds so good. To this day it blows my mind! You will never seen that again. Couple that with the fact that this car has one of the highest Redline’s of any production cars, you’re making magic happen. Something else I forget to mention, this car has the fastest rev’s of any car at the time.That’s why it sounds like a Superbike or F1 car. They had to construct the engine a precise and very painstaking way to get the rev’s to work that way. This is and always will be a dream car of mine. I want to say that Lexus spent more on production than what they could reasonably sell the cars for. So they essentially lost money making these and that’s another reason why they made so few. These are a pinnacle of man’s greatest achievements. And before someone asks, yes Jay Leno has one lol. Ohh what it must be like to be rich…

    • @apurbaghosh5878
      @apurbaghosh5878 2 года назад +1

      The sound is contributed by the most important factor i.e the LFA has 10 cylinders thats a known fact but whats interesting is that it has 10 individual throttle bodies which is one for each cylinder hence the 9000 rpm redline and 9500 rpm fuel shutoff

    People are complaining about the skyrocketing price, and the rather "mediocre" specifications. The thing is, people don't buy this because of specifications, but rather the experience. The sound itself is orgasmic, emitting a lower, refined soprano, which is something that say, a V10 M5 could only ever come close to. However, the exclusivity of the vehicle, with production numbers matching the Bugatti Veyron (450). The LFA also has to live the legacy of Japan's first "Super" car, the Toyota 2000GT. It had to live up to it's reputation, although it never starred in a Bond movie, nor was it so exclusive to get it's top off, it still won the heart of Jeremy Clarkson, the orangutan itself. The LFA is a car that will be very hard to replicate for the many years to come, with it's discrete looks and unparalleled sound, it truly is the 2000GT of the Digital Age.
    Many can build a straight-line rocket, but only Lexus can build an LFA.

    Fun fact: Lexus had no choice but to go with a digital tachometer. When the car upshifts, it does so so quickly that a physical tachometer needle (which was still pretty common in exotic cars back in 2011) can't move fast enough to remain in sync with the engine speed during shifts. It's an amazing engine.

    • @ba5aran
      @ba5aran Год назад +11

      it isn't about the upshifts, in fact the gearbox of lfa is just a single clutch and the shifts are quite slow compared to dual clutch gearboxes. the reason for digital tachometer is that lfa engine can gain and lose revs real fast. it's apparent when you watch another supercar's tachometer and lfa's side by side. lfa's tachometer needle is almost jittery, while others are quite stable. the engine is just too sensitive to throttle input that physical tachometers cannot display it

    A brilliant and rare supercar from a non-exotic brand, naturally aspirated V10, 9000 rpm redline, and actually a high-quality automobile. It's the only car I've heard multiple journalists call the best car they've ever driven. It being a Lexus doesn't bother me at all. Eric Vu It's so expensive because they spent nine years to perfect it. They had the car almost done, but they started all over again making it with carbon fiber rather than aluminium. The amount spent to make the cars is nothing short of astonishing. THIS is the perfect example of never giving up no matter what. That gives the car so much more soul than any other modern supercar.

      Toyota poured billions into their Formula 1 program, yet they failed to achieve their goal. For the LFA, IMHO they should have had Lotus design the chassis and an Italian designer do the body work. They did well with Yamaha designing the engine. The creation of the V10 was lead by Lexus' chief engine designer Okamoto Takamitsu. The engine starts life at Toyota's Myochi plant. It is at this plant that the engine block is made from molted aluminium. The block is then sent to Toyota's Honsha factory. The same factory that used to be Toyota's F1 engine facility. The block will get milled, drilled and polished and emerges as a precise engine block. In a sealed room Takumi’s (Master Craftsmen) hone every sharp edge using precision polishing tools. After this a highly skilled Takumi pre-assembles the finished engine blocks to check if they fit precisely. Disassembled they travel as unit to Yamaha’s Iwata city plant. It is at this plant that 4 highly skilled Yamaha Takumi’s fully assemble V10. A process that takes 2,5 days for one engine. Before the engine gets put into an LFA, it undergoes a half day of exhaustive testing.

It was a mix of technology of 2001 to 2011. A sort of best of or a Decade Car. Showcasing that Toyota is ahead of most companies in development and quality control.

    Talk all you want about that lack of "immediate upshift", that little upgrade from a pure manual stickshift system to a paddle controlled sequential transmission is absolutely perfect. That lack of dual clutch forces you to still be completely in touch with the car, and the quicker shifts compared to a manual really adds to usability of the power and sound of the car. You still have to work for the power, but it probably still feels so futuristic. This car is absolutely insane and I understand what Jeremy Clarkson was saying. They simply cannot replicate this!

    The reason this is arguably the best sounding car ever is because the engine is manufactured by Yamaha and sound tuned by them. Yamaha manufacturers some of the best musical instruments and the instrument team was involved in the tuning process. The result is a V10 that resembles the sound of a formula one car. Yamaha also produces great sounding super bikes, the R1 comes to mind, many jet skis, speed boats, and electronics(music sound systems, sound bars, subwoofers).

    This car is a Masterpiece. The Nurburgring Edition was even better. So many people see 552HP or 562HP say that's not enough. It's plenty to go around the Ring in 7:14 Sec. On Bridgestones tires. I'm not saying there bad but slap a set of Michelins or Pirelli or Dunlops. That time would be faster. If any person was a real fan of this car would know. That the single clutch gearbox they used was used for a reason. The best feel you could have without having a manual transmission. The price is rising on these cars. A Nurburgring Edition sold for 770,000 dollars on Barrett Jackson with over 1000 miles on it. I haven't even gotten to the sound of this thing. Its quick enough to get you in serious trouble. The sound can get you in trouble. The looks will break necks especially in my town. It will last forever. It's the perfect Masterpiece of a car.

    One factor that he's certainly failed to mention and I'd like to point out is the MAINTENANCE. It's a breeze to maintain (duh LEXUS) and most of the spares can be sourced from the ISF (thus bringing the costs down) and the machine is built like tank. While the Lambos and Ferraris rot at my garage for weeks. The only LFA here (which I'm lucky to service) gets out of the workshop the same day.
    Special mention for the V10 engine. I believed they could've mated two L6 (from Toyota President) and tuned it to make a mean V12. But the new V10 impressed me to no end.
    People deriding it in the comments section fail to gather the Japanese design philosophy and I guess that's okay. It's a machine built for people with an acquired taste.

    With all the engineering efforts, technology applied, high quality materials and well-known Lexus reliability I would score it higher as a matter of respect to the team who built this exceptional automobile. Would love to own this car👍😎 Owned 4.3 V8 Lexus GS years ago, loved the engine and overall quality of it.

    They purposely didn't do a dual clutch because they wanted you to feel the shifts for a better driving experience. Jeremy Clarkson said so and I believe that man.

      Victor Torres they wanted to bridge the gap between a dct and a manual. They made a transmission that feels like a manual when shifting but isn’t as slow (and distracting, when doing hotlaps for example) as a manual when shifting.

      Augustas Malisauskas it’s shifting speed will still outweigh the (weight) problem. So it’s probably like OP said the feel of the transmission was the main purpose of the LFA’s transmission.
