Suggestion. Put a small sticker on each end and side of those 2 clear pieces. I use stickers for all my small clear rulers, clear scissor covers, and anything else that's easy to lose. If a sticker doesn't stick then I use a small brushstroke or two of nail polish then cover it with clear polish. If you don't want something permanent, use wash tape.
I ordered and could not wait to use it. I make alot of jelly roll things including those adorable Christmas Trees. This tool cut my time in half! It worked perfectly. Thanks for the great video. Those little pieces of plastic are essential!
I have Pauline Rogers Jelly Roll Sasher, being a fellow Aussie I went with that. Pauline's is like a buckle whilst this one is like a bias tape making tool so whichever way you wish to go there is a tool for you. It all boils down to fun.
Maybe take a permanent marker and write something or mark an X on the side of the plastic feeder "thingy" that doesn't go against the fabric so they don't disappear😁
Thanks for a great video! Love listening to you talk about the latest and greatest...like having one of my quilt group buds here in the living room with me...we've had to postpone those weekly sewing get togethers for now...love the coffee chit chat you bring to my world right now! I've got LOTS of time, to grab a tea/coffee/glass of wine, press play, sit back...and have a nice tute! What else do I have to do anyways! For those who want a 'get 'er done' video..there is always the fast forward button...but honestly, why would we do that? We'd miss out on all the fun! Take care..keep safe and healthy..looking forward to what is next !
Thank you so much for that nice comment! We really like the human interaction that comes with quilting - the retreats, the guilds, the sewing days with our friends - so we like to make our videos feel as close to that as possible. We're thrilled that you're enjoying our videos and getting some quality coffee time in. ;) That's a wonderful way to spend time. Be well! - Morgan
Wow! This is something I will buy :) I try to sew purist lol. Tell myself, they made the same thing years ago and didn’t need this plastic whatever. But after making a rug, I see the wisdom in this. Thanks for great info.
We tend to agree with you Terry, a lot of notions aren't that necessary, but this time-saver was so great, we had to share. :) Let us know when you use this on your next rug, we'd like to hear your thoughts on it. - Morgan
I was hoping you would show how to add the next piece of fabric. Do you just fold over the 2.5" end and overlap it over the last one? I got my roll of batting a week or two ago and am ready to go! Maybe I should order this tool first!!
If you're making a Jelly Roll Rug, yes, you'll just butt the next batting strip next to the old. We didn't overlap ours, just got them as close as possible. This tool will make it so much quicker, we highly recommend it! - Morgan
It is very hard on arthritic hands. It is also difficult to keep it centered and to keep it from bunching up in the jig. The pieces of plastic dont actually grip the fabrics as you try to enter them into the jig. As it is a 3D printer item, the jig is not very stable. Id recommend using the metal tool that looks like a bias maker. It is much easier, esp to enter the fabrics. And has the advantage of being able to be near heat if you are using fusible batting. Im wondering exactly where to sew the tube. Id rather my stitching didnt show when im sewing the tube to itself; id like to do that w a zigzag and not have stability stitching showing.
We are glad you found a tool that works for you! In addition to this Veteran made product, we do also offer Pauline Roger's Jelly Roll Sasher tool if you're seeking an alternative. ruclips.net/video/8N7QysSV1jQ/видео.html You can chekc out our original Jelly Roll Rug video here: ruclips.net/video/AL_fHb7vRoo/видео.html Hope this helps!! -Michelle
Hi Jeannie S- You're going to want a jeans/denim needle for this type of project. We personally use a 100/16 Schmetz Chrome needle, which you can find here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/p66732/schmetz-chrome-jeans-denim-needles-size-100-16-5ct 💖 -Michelle
Just ordered my “Jig”. Can’t wait to start making jelly roll rugs. Bought jelly rolls last year when they where on sale. Thanks, Shabby Fabrics for all of your videos. Stay safe and healthy!!!!!
Between this tool and the Jelly Roll Sasher tool, which do you find is the easiest and gives the most consistent folds? Your videos make both look so easy. Thanks and I appreciate all your videos.
Great question! The tool is only meant to get it to where it folds it inward, so we can sew it a little bit more easily. The tool does not have enough of a tug to stretch it. - Yajaira
Has anyone tried this without the batting? For instance making bag straps etc? I need a way beyond these old metal ones I have that actually help speed up the process of my making straps bias tape, binding etc.
For regular cotton fabric we highly recommend not making this without the batting. There is a slight possibility that you can make this with high quality flannel fabric, however we still highly suggest not making it without the batting. - Yajaira
That's what I think too. But, its made for the thickness of all those layers of fabric and batting. I tried making the rugs and ended up with 2 bowels & after a lot of ripping I just made rectangular shaoed rugs of strips, with bindibg all aroud & some placemats. Lol
Oh dearie me! Have you never heard "a picture is worth a thousand words"? Are you aware of how many times you repeated yourself? Isuggest you carefully review your video after you make it and focus on how you can cut several thousand words from your presentation. Your camera work is good, just cut down the blathering and you will be doing well. Your voice is lovely, just save some of it for another time.😊
That tool would save a lot of time. Glad someone came up with the idea and you showed it to us. Thank you.
We agree with you! Thank goodness for new notions that are problem-solvers! - Morgan

This is genius - now I feel I can actually make one of these rugs. Thanks so much for the demonstration on how to use this notion.

Jerry's Jellyroll Jig is a game changer! I've made a jelly roll rug and it would have been easier had I used this notion. Thanks Jen!
We agree! Wish we had these earlier, but so glad we have them now. :) - Morgan

I have wanted to make a rug for my bedroom from the same line of fabrics as my quilt. Thank you so much. 💗😊💗
That would be gorgeous and this will save you so much time! - Morgan

Yes, Ka TAH din. It's the name of the mountain in Maine that is the terminus of the Appalachian Trail. A very celebrated Mecca for hikers.

I thought bias tape maker right away.
:)
what size needle is recommended for this thickness of fabric? thank you.

Hi Linda! Both products work wonderfully and are rather easy to use! We'd love to hear which one works best for you! Thank you for watching! - Sophie
Genius. Awesome idea Jerry!
We agree! We're so glad to have it! - Morgan
Basically a bias tape maker on steroids!
The tool that looks like a belt buckle doesn't work as easily as this ine seems to (form me at least)
Yes, it's very similar to a bias tape maker! This one works really well and makes the process so smooth! - Morgan
I was thinking the same thing! LOL
I really like this item but I felt it was a bit overpriced! I already have a bunch of wonder clips so I guess I will just stick with those for now.
Wonder Clips are a great option! - Morgan
@@ShabbyFabrics By the way, I LOVE your videos, Jen! I've made two Quilt As You Go totes for friends and they were so much fun to do!
I have the Jelly Roll Slasher. It works really well and, to me, looks easier than this one. But isn’t it marvelous that we have options!
So great to have so many options! The Jelly Roll Sasher is a great tool, too! - Morgan

Masks
Mickie Gurne
It would work for pocketbook or bag straps too.
Yes, that would be a great use! - Morgan
Been wondering about this. Thanks so much
Thank you for watching! - Morgan
Wow, this is an amazing tool! 🌸🌸 Thanks for sharing!
So glad you like it! Thank you for watching! - Morgan
What store carries this tool? JoAnn's Fabric, Jackmann's Fabric, etc.
Hi Cheryl! We're not sure about those, but we carry this! You can find it here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/jerrys-jellyroll-jig-P85566.aspx

I'm from Maine and I know it's spelled really weird (spell it like you say it am I right?!) but the first way she says Katahdin is how you say it!
Thank you for watching and letting us know how to pronounce it! Have a great weekend! ~Leah
Thank you! Great job, now I might need to make a rug 😐
So glad you enjoyed it! The rug project is so much fun! You'll love it. - Morgan
Love that tool, it would definitely be a time saver.
It definitely is a huge time saver! Thank you for watching! - Morgan
That would help thread a bias tape maker also. Pretty cool.
Yes! Good idea! - Morgan
WOW! Can you use this "jig" on thinner material? Like to make "ties" for the very needed face masks?
You sure could! That's a great idea, and would save a lot of time while making fabric ties for the masks. - Morgan
@@ShabbyFabrics thank you Morgan!
Have a great day and stay safe!
The regular bias tape makers are better for those ties, if you can find any.
Would pulling the fabric and batting through this tool stretch it out?
Great question! The tool is only meant to get it to where it folds it inward, so we can sew it a little bit more easily. The tool does not have enough of a tug to stretch it. - Yajaira
I'm sure it's been mentioned, but if not....... why wouldn't you write on those plastic strips with a marks-a-lot? T'would be helpful.
Kathy DeRouchey, would the ink from the marks-a-lot come off on the fabric?
You could! Just make sure it doesn't come off on the fabric. :) - Morgan
They could be made in a color too.
Has anyone tried this without the batting? For instance making bag straps etc? I need a way beyond these old metal ones I have that actually help speed up the process of my making straps bias tape, binding etc.
That's a great question. We haven't tried it, but maybe someone else has and can help you out! - Morgan
It's like a big bias tape maker, cool.
Yes, it is! It's such a great tool! - Morgan
it is a bias tape maker only on a larger size
Yes, it's very similar! - Morgan
