You are skipping stitches because your needle is no longer sharp. Try a titanium needle or change your needle more often. Also sewing machines are like cars- they all sew the same, more expensive machines, like more expensive cars have built in features but thinking that they sew better is an advertising tactic and misinformation. Experience and a variable sewing speed button, on a Brother machine, will make up for most sewing challenges.
I actually did all of these steps. I always sew with a titanium needle and change them before every video. In this case it was absolutely the machine. I have replaced it with a machine that is less expensive (Bernette Crafter, link is now in description) and sews MUCH better and more even.
