Pretty!
Thank you!
Good Teacher, I loved your demostration
Thank you! 😃
Just a quick tip that if you cut your fabric strips on the bias then you won't get any fraying down the sides xx
You are exactly right. I'll try to remember that little tip next time!
Or use batiks which come in beautiful varieties and have little to no fraying ☺️
@emilyds83 this is great to read! Thanks for mentioning it, I've been hoping there's a way to stop the fraying as I just don't like the look of it.
Use a Jean needle 18. 🇨🇦
I have loved making these bowls, especially for unique gifts. Lately I’ve been adding some decorative stitches, and I plan to add a large hole wooden bead to the loop & knot ending of my next one! So many possibilities! 😘💗
Great idea! I love the idea of adding trinkets and fun surprises to make it even more unique! Thanks for sharing! 🥰🥰
I just love your enthusiasm!
You have lovely, graceful hands!
Thank you! 😊
That bowl is so cool. I have made some. They can be addictive.
It is so much fun to make and extremely satisfying as well :D
I sew with rope a lot. I use pins and clips to hold the fabric. I've discovered that if you wrap the fabric around the rope before you start making the bowl is is easier to work with. When you are finished you have a long rope covered in fabric and it is now ready for you to make the bowl, or rug, or whatever. When you finish the bowl hold it up to the light to see where your breaks are. If they are small I ignore them, but if they are big and go back and fix them.
Thanks for sharing! That is a really great tip!
While watching this video, this process you describe was going through my mind, wondering if it would be easier to wrap the rope first. I have never made a rope bowl and looking forward to giving it a try. Thanks for sharing this tip!
@@Gogas54 I think so.
Thank you for making this bowl. I have my rope now I just have to get started. Love watching you.
That means so much Kayanna. I can't wait to see what you make.
Can’t wait to make a bowl! They’re so pretty!
They really are! I can't wait to hear all about yours.
Assay I do. Thank you so much. ❤
You are so welcome
I love the technique. I would probably make my bowl a little bigger for my sewing room scraps and notions. You did a great tutorial. Many uses for the bowls. ❤
Thank you! 😊
I love using paracord for projects like this, they melt beautifully and the out lining doesn't shrink as much as the laundry line. It is super popular for outdoor camping projects which is how I was introduced to it, making key chains, camping accessories and other fun durable outdoorsy cord projects.
I've worked with paracord also. I love it! It's so pretty and sews beautifully.
I brought rope about 2 weeks ago and now you just inspired to start making a bowl😀
Yay! That's so fun. I hope it goes well for you!
Thanks for the video. Wet your fingers before touching the hot cord. This gave me so many ideas.
Glad it helped!
It's beautiful. Thank you
Thank you too!
Very pretty
I make these and pillow cases with my quilt scraps… give them away with the quilt.
Great idea for scrap material 💕
Thank you! 😊
Moda makes their own version of a jelly roll that's only 1.5" wide. They call it a Honey Bun. It's quicker, if you can find a collection that has your colors, than cutting the strips in half.
That's a super great idea! Thanks for sharing!
I’ve seen these made where at the very end, they made handles out of the last little bit.
I LOVE the cute little handles! I haven't found a way to make it really even... but I have large floor baskets (purchase, not made) that have handles and they're so cute!
Really great instruction, thank you!!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching!
Did not hear you say if you sewed back and forth or used locking stitch at the very beginning.
Also with nylon rope inside would it burn too much if you lightly singed those loose strings at end instead of cutting them. Not a hard burn just quick singe. just found your show a few days ago and have been binge watching like crazy, love it.
Aw thank you so much! I am glad you've enjoyed the videos! I think you could absolutely burn the rope just a bit at the beginning to seal off any frayed edges. That is a great suggestion!
I would like if you can put the camera behind you. Please !Pretty bowl you made. Great teaching video. Are you a lefty?
Absolutely right handed! And I will take your suggestion for future videos - sometimes it's hard to do everything we do and fit a camera in between! I try to show the different angles in my videos, but it is a lot to remember 🥰
You should start your bowl on the right. Then you don't have to turn it over.
Great tutorial.
That's a good idea! Thank you for sharing that!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
So many jelly rolls come with pinking scissor edge ? Does that work ?
Yes! It leaves a little bit of lint confetti around while working with it, but you treat it just the same and line up the edges 🥰
TFS! I use a needle that is used to sew denim. What is the name of the sewing machine that you use? Thank you.
Hi. I use a Janome Horizon Memory craft 15000. Its a dream machine. I also used to sew on a Janome 3160QDC
I was wondering if you used a nylon/polyester blend of rope? Or what kind did you use or recommend??? Also the thickness??? I want to go with a nylon blend???? Because of kids! 🥰
Thanks
This is a good question. I liked the cotton rope because I was using my really good sewing machine. you could go with a nylon blend, but I would switch to a stronger needle that is made of thicker material and is stronger... You might have to do a little more research on what your machine can handle too. I'd hate to give it more than it can handle. If you do find what works, let me know? I'd love to hear how it works for you
I love your videos. My issue is that my bowl base is not ....flat....am I lifting my beginning "coaster" too soon? They have been ending up with a "bubble butt"... what am I doing incorrectly....help. thank you in advance.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 a bubble bowl butt LOL Thank you, that made me laugh so hard. Yes, I would think that you are lifting too soon. Keep it flat at least until you get to about the size of a large drink coaster. If you don't have a big enough base, your bowl won't be stable. Good luck, you got this!
Shouldn't your tail b on the right? It would b easier to go up the sides.
Its been a while since I've made this project.... I'll have to give it a test next time and see if it changes the ease of the project! Thanks for watching 🥰
Are you using a denim/jeans needle?
Yes! I did use a stronger needle for this project. It was a Jean needle
Thank you. Looks great. What mm is the rope please
amzn.to/3A2a5UH This is the rope that I ordered. It is 1/4" in width
Did u use a jelly roll? U don’t talk about the roll in the tutorial
I used strips of fabric that I cut at 2.5" for this tutorial. Those are the same size as jelly roll strips
The raw edges bother me . . .
Awe, I'm sorry Sally!
There are some very fun industrial ropes out there in a variety of colors and fiber contents that work beautifully without using any fabric at all. There are several brands that offer multi colored ropes with black and red and blue and white for instance. The finished effect has a slightly more modern look.
Also, you may want to consider using just cotton rope with a decorative stitch and variegated thread. The effects are wonderful. Look up a tutorial by Christopher. Newman for some very interesting and creative options.
You could fold over one edge of the fabric lengthwise. Such as 1/4” or slightly wider.
So join the strips of fabric, possibly using a 45 degree angle join. Iron open. Then fold over one lengthwise edge, the whole length of all the joined strips, and iron that flat.
When winding the fabric over the rope, place the folded edge first, so the wound fabric then covers all the raw edges, and the folded edge is the visible edge.
