I have sewn about a million coil bowls I sell them at a store in a major city. Some things I have learned, over lapping is a good thing, I use 1 inch strips and overlap leaving about 1/4 of an inch. In the event you zig zag just in the edge of the strip you have some meat to sew into. Also when using large welting you only have to catch the edges and not sew through the bulk. I cut my fabric on the bias so there is no fraying. ( Sew Very Easy) has a great tutorial on cutting bias strips. I love the honey bun idea and your colours were lovely. I buy my welting by the yard at Lens Mill store I find it is the cheapest. Learned something today regarding cutting on an angle, great idea Thanks. Beautiful bowl. 👍🇨🇦
Wow 😲 I always wanted to make one. Thanks to you I can. Your videos are tops. Outstanding and amazing job. Thanks for sharing your creative sewing talent.
This isn't a project that I thought I would want to try but after watching your video I think I will give it a whirl! What a cute idea! I love how customizable it is too. Just by switching the fabric choices it can go in any type of decor. Love this!
I love your cat. They always want to sit where you are working or reading. Thank you for including Jackson(?) in your videos. have a new cutting mat, rotary cutter and a new acrylic ruler. I'm going to watch your How to Cut Fabric video one more time then I am going to attempt the zippered pouch. I feel well armed. Please keep creating your tutorials they are wonderful.
Years ago, I made a similar bowl by wrapping and knotting fabric around rope. This looks so easy and fun. Thanks for another great tutorial. My little dog loves your music.
Oh my gosh Erica, your bowl is BEAUTIFUL!! So fun watching you create it and seeing how it took shape just by tilting it!! Loved this tutorial and I will be making these for gifts and for myself!!
We made these in Home Ec in high school, but we didn’t sew them we just went into the previous coil every so many wraps and included it in the wrap. So cute! ❤️
I was so excited when I realized you’d made this video! I’m definitely going to try to make a bowl! I love how honest you are about the challenges but encouraging!
Thank you, Erica, for another helpful video. I had to order the cording immediately as my cat is sleeping in a box on my sewing table and I felt guilty for not making her a bed, lol. This was very well done.
Great tutorial.....and I do love your fabric choice too, I love the same colours! I'm going to try one.....did your pouch so time to try this! Thanks Erica x
I've made several of these now to give out as Christmas gifts. I loooove them! I've made them gradual and steep but love the one I made that is more like the one in the video. I've watched several other bowl tutorials and love yours the best! Keep the wonderful tutorials coming!
I tied to make a practice rope bowl but had trouble with my machine sewing through that much bulk. I took my machine and my project into my repair shop to see what they thought and after looking at the stitches and me explaining how difficult it was to sew they discouraged me from continuing my project. I'm super bummed!!! I bought enough material to make 6 bowls to give as Christmas gifts. I used a jelly roll and the 1/4" cotton filler. Any tips on how tight you wrap the fabric or unit would be greatly appreciated! I love your videos and appreciate the time that you take in making your tutorials! They are very informative and easy to follow along!
Erica, I just discovered your RUclips channel and this the first video I watched. I just love this project! What a beautiful gift this would make! Thanks for sharing your talents! I look forward to watching more of your videos! Best wishes to you as you continue to record more videos.
