Last year I got frustrated with the wrapping so then I put a very pretty color thread in my machine and started zig zagging the same way with the cording alone with no fabric. Surprise I loved it.
I've been making these for years, never used glue, just wrapped, but I think it's a great idea. I like them for big coasters, just keep it flat and keep going until it's the size you want.
Awesome! I love watching your tutorials. Your instructions are clear and the projects you choose are always fun :-) Thank you for sharing your passion! I have figured out I need to listen at a low volume and .75 feedback speed. I was feeling like I was being yelled at, now it's all good. I have a lot of old videos to watch and catch up on... technology is a good thing.
Jus found ur tutorials last week. I have watched several and I can see and almost feel the passion u have for what u do...I have followed one of ur tutorials and I have one word for u ...amazing!
I bet this wrapping the clothesline/zigzag together in a circle (but keeping it flat) is how you would make a rag rug or placemat. Perhaps for a rug you would want to use a thicker thread like cotton quilting thread or something. Or use the technique to make coasters! Great video:) You could also cut up old clothes or sheets to make strips, too, but the jelly roll strips are SO cute!
Thanks for the tutorial. I used scraps. I also did all my wrapping first then sewed. It is much easier to wrap when not attached to the machine. I had a huge ball of wrapped washing line on the floor.
Have made thousands of these bowls. I use a synthetic 1/4 inch rope as it makes them stiffer and not so floppy. I inch strips and I glue my pieces of material together. Wrap as I go so colors end where they start. I end it off with a loop at the top. They are fun to make.
Lovely handy little bowl, lots of uses, I'm thinking of colour coordinating with my bathroom decor and putting my favourite variegated soaps in it or potpourri. Thanks Vanessa !

Thank you Vanessa.....I have made my first one and it came out perfect d/t your excellent communication skills......wonderful idea and excellent gift for anyone on your list............I would say it is an inexpensive one but the rope is a cost......but what a wonderful end product.
Thanks for the tutorial. I’ve been making rope coiled bowls, trivets, etc. I find that steam ironing the bottoms of the bowls flattens them nicely. Also steam the trivets well on both sides to flatten them!
I don't care what your wall of the sewing room looks like, your camera man needs to show me what you are doing at the sewing machine. You have a lovely personality, but it's frustrating that I don't know what is going on under the needle. Thank you for sharing your skills. 🥰
Super cute. Would love to try this but I can see it would be time consuming and I wonder how my hands would hold up. Thanks Vanessa for another wonderful tutorial.
Good morning Vanessa!. I really like the pattern from the bowels. I have bags of these scraps. Been wondering what next? To use them up. I was wondering, could the shellacked to protect from the elements for gazebo? Just a thought. I will be making plenty. Great gifts. Thanks so Much for sharing..
Re: The ? about the brand of sewing machine being used. The Juki is in her home studio...this is MSQC sponsored. Which ever machine she uses is fine with me. I love her tutorials...easy to understand and fun to do.
I've made rope bowls, but not with fabric. Your tutorial was very well done, and I thank you for all your good hints. Did you use a zig-zag blade in your rotary cutter? It looked to me like some of the edges were cut that way.
Icis Threez 90/14 or 100/16. If your using a heavier fabric like denim, use a leather needle 100/18. Will hold up better for all the thicknesses. The heavier the material the higher the numbers for your needle. Hope that makes sense. Remember as a standard rule.
I have made several bowls (what fun), some large circles to use for hot things on the table, and I am making a bunch of circles that will be artistically arranged for an area rug. I find that make an actual rug is difficult unless you have a very large area that is all the same height. Otherwise, even the smallest change in surface the rug will not lay flat. If anyone has any ideas on how to do a flat circular rug, please let me know.
I’m interested in information on the tip you used for your glue. Is that something I can purchase? Your video was great. I enjoy finding new projects to work on.
I love this! I have a beautiful basket I bought at a craft fair and have wanted to learn to make these. Easter, here I come!
Out of all the videos an books ,you make it look ssooo easy . Thank you so much . Love ,love .❤

Glad I watched other videos first.................so many little steps left out.
Why did you cut the strips in narrower strips?
growing up we had braided rugs on the hard wood floors... must have been made in this fashion.. cute bowls for my swap partners
Great idea. Definitely know I can find a lot of scraps for this project...dee

Much for sharing..
great tutorial, what if you want it bigger and you don't cut the right length of clothesline, how do you add more clothesline for it to be secure?
Do you change the thread color for different colored fabric or stay with one color thread ?
Hey, would you show how to make a square cozy. I make TV dinners in three compartment glass containers. And need cozy for them?
Thanks a lot this like this
Where do you get your rope? It looks whiter than the rope that I get. Thank you for sharing your tutorial!

Do you have a video or instructions on how to make an oval bowl?

Hello! ove these! What type of needle did you use? Thank you!
Icis Threez

Nice
What's the best battie to use when making bags
Can you make this using batting on the inside instead of the clothes line?
Could you wind up fabric and glue using clips to hold ahead of time so that when you sew it’s straight sewing ?

With rugs you have to use a starch and iron and do it every 3 to 4 rows
Good night I wanted to know can I make the bowls with my se400
What size need do we need for our sewing machine to do the rope basket? I’m a beginner.
I’m interested in information on the tip you used for your glue. Is that something I can purchase?
Your video was great. I enjoy finding new projects to work on.
Use ANY gluestick. School glue in a stick is very cheap.
😊
What machine model are you using in this demo? 😊
How big can you make these?
