Angela Clayton is a fashion designer VANESSA is humble and is super creative and talented with all her creations from bags to quilting to kids garments and so on and VANESSA shares every bit of her knowledge and talent. So Angela and VANESSA have two different talents. Thanks Vanessa for sharing and caring. 👍👍👍💕
Dear Vanessa I would like to thank you for this reusable market tote pattern. I made four totes using your instructions last March 2017. You are a very good teacher. The totes are very strong and I throw them in the washer and dryer all the time. I have had a lot of compliments from baggers at the grocery store. I especially like the way they fold into themselves and button. Thank you, Geri
I'm nine years late to the party. THANK YOU!!, BEAUTIFUL LADY, for your VERY EASY to follow tutorials. You are an EXCELLENT instructor. In 2024, Im trying to get out of my comfort zone and branch out into sewing clothes and bags. You explain everything PERFECTLY 👌. THANKS AGAIN!! 😊 👍
I enjoyed watching you demonstrate how to make your handbag step-by-step you did an awesome job simple and easy just what I like you have an awesome blessed weekend thank you for the tutorial
Vanessa, Vanessa, thank you for this video for the reusable market tote! I have a large amount of drapery fabric in my trunk that was given to me and I was telling myself yesterday that I need to make market totes with it! Can you believe what I saw this morning? Your video! Thanks again. (At work now but will post my results ASAP)
Vanessa it was a joy to see you at Mt. Dora this morning. this simple bag is wonderful.and is ideal for gifts. Thanks you sooo much for showing us how to make this cutie bag. .
Refreshing to see a young woman teaching techniques I learned as a young woman. We got to get these girls back to doing these kinds of fun activities and pass on a legacy.
Great idea! I volunteer at my church for the '"Gowns of Love" and we rip up donated wedding dresses to make into gowns, satchels, blankets and hearts for the hospitals to give to the parents. The wedding dresses are very heavy and the bags need to be sturdy. These bags are easy to make, sturdy and can be a lot cheaper than buying one! As always your talents are never ending!!!
Thank you Vanessa for this great tutorial, you make Wednesday's awesome!!! I will be creating these bags (by the dozen - as you would say) for grocery shopping, gift bags & for my kiddos to tote their books, toys, etc. in! Sizes galore! Your videos are so easy to follow and I've found all of your videos so very helpful! My favorite part of this video was learning about the French seams!
DEFINITELY a project I will do. I could see giving my family members a few of these for the trunk container I gave them last year. They'll always have ags when they need them. GREAT idea! Thanks :)
Vanessa you are a very good instructor, and your confidence, speed and straightforward explanations make it easy to understand how to make your wonderful projects. Thank you!
I have scoured the Internet for the best shopping tote. I've tried many different ones and this is one of my favorites. Rosie and David have one I like because of the folding bottom, the lady whose YT channel is called A Square Pillow Isn't Square has my other favorite. All three have excellent features. If I had a serger I would include Christine's Home Affairs in my list of favorites.
Love, love, love this project! Super easy and fun to make. Thank you, Vanessa. I'm working on my fourth bag. Gave one to a friend, and she immediately "ordered" two more. While figuring out ways to minimize the cost of project supplies, I've been using fabric scraps in place of the interfacing in the middle of the bag. I am a notorious saver of usable fabric scraps - I just throw them into a large basket. I sew in the 5 x 16 inch scrap per Vanessa's directions. It's another way I reduce-reuse-recycle.
Dozens for sure, I don't know why I haven't seen this before. I have watched (I thought) all of your older stuff. You are an excellent teacher when it come to making it simple and understandable. Although you skip doing all the steps to completion you show us a little of each step not just say "do this or that". Some people really are visual and you explain without any doubt as to what to do next.
Looks like a sturdy, simple bag that even this old dude can make. I need some tote bags to take stuff from the house to the camper because Walmart bags look so tacky. Thanks for putting this up.
cute bag! suggestion, instead of white elastic - you can use a colored ponytail elastic, already about the right size. With all the colors in this bag ~ you are sure to find one to coordinate. Just zigzag over the tie to secure it.
Thank you so much for your instructions on making the bag. You really have to be the best instructor I have come across. Thank you, from Australia. Ann
Great project for a quick gift to anyone on the list. Super crisp clean construction and handy way to fold and store for the quick / ready to use. Makes for a super useable gift for any senior citizen. Folks love carry-all bags that are comfortable to hold, control and get the job done. Tons of usages: Grocery / Post Office / Over Night Travel / Bible Study at Church / Bingo Nights / Walks in the Park and the list goes on. Pet owners would love this bag too...especially made with pet themed materials...for when walking their dogs...carry water / bowl / treats / play toys / leash / wipes and "scooper" tool and baggies as well. Thanks Vanessa....I will be making myself one for use on my treks to the Post Office but a bit larger for what I repeatedly carry when I go. Ken Orlando, Florida, USA
I'm having trouble streaming this - and did for the reversible headband. Am I the only one? I love that you are joining forces with MSQC. I've made several of your creations (fabric boxes and bowls) and love Jenny's videos! My favourites in one place!
Love your videos. I appreciate how well made your videos are and easy to follow instructions. Can't wait to see what new things you have for us in 2017.
Making a few of these for my mother for Christmas. I'm using coordinating canvas fabric in navy floral, plaid, and stripes. Mom will love these coordinating bags when she food shops :) Thanks for the great --and quick- idea! :)
Absolutely love this 💖💖💖. I just finished making 3 of these. They are so beautiful. Wish I could show you. The 2 tabs at the bottom which we are not cutting off I hot glued them flat.
I just finished making my fifth bag. Here's what I did on my fifth bag that made the LENGTH OF ELASTIC NEEDED a little easier for me to determine. I sewed the button on first! Then I folded the bag according to instructions and held the looped piece of 5 inch elastic in place then looped it around the button. Once I figured out the length needed I sewed it in place. This worked perfectly for me. Also, I bought a 1/2 inch bias tape maker for about $8 and made a coordinating strip running the length of the handles. These bags are too flippin' fun to make! Thank you, Vanessa.
I used cotton belting instead of making straps with fabric. The belting is more durable and way easier than cutting and sewing ribbon to the straps. Good tip about attaching the button first.
Great tutorial! I made one out of burlap today. For the handles I had the ribbon on the outside. The bag was used for a gift bag so I stenciled the recipients initial on the front of the bag, she loved it!
I have watched so many tutorials. Your voice is so easy to listen to. And you don't repeat, repeat, repeat..... Good on ya, mate. I'll share your site. best of luck to you!
Thanks Vanessa love the pattern can't wait to try it. We use reusable bags from the store but they don't last long and are expensive. I have canvas I bought for a different project but never made will have to break it out and make a bunch of these
Hola Vanessa! Gracias por este excelente tutorial! Ya sé qué le regalaré a mis amigas esta navidad. Recibe un fuerte abrazo y que sigas cosechando éxitos.
Cute bag! I try to salvage all my material, if possible of course. With that said, insteard of cutting 2-2 1/2" from salvage edge, I would move my fold so I could cut on the edge of the salvage the top piece and have about a 3-4" strip (bottom piece) that i can use for another project. Love the video
You really do a good job explaining everything! Now I know how to make French seams My bag came out okay-I put my straps on backwards (don't tell anyone! ). I'll do better next time. Thanks Vanessa!
Love the Tote and especially that if folds up to a little package and you don't have loose bags all over the car. Only request is if you made of list of the supplies and quantity of each. Would be easier to just print out supplies. Love that you are linked to MSQC. Thanks
I love, love, love your videos! I just some really cute reversible cotton to make this bag. This will be the 3rd project of yours, I have made. Your instructions are always clear, concise and informative. I am a new sewer, but I have learned a lot watching your videos, and I am hoping you will teach a craftsy class soon!
Thanks for all your posts on your YT Channel. I've made a few very simple tote bags but this one looks much stronger. So I'm gonna visit my local Fabric World shop and look for some canvas. Thanks. love watching you. you and Debbie Shore are the only ones I can follow. 😄. and you help me accomplish achievable goals.
Thank you, great video, it's a lovely bag, and I enjoyed the way you teach. I also like the idea lady before me suggested, about a brightly coloured hair elastic.
Love the bag. I'll make a few just a tad smaller all around. The supermarket stuffs all the heavy groceries in it together making them difficult to carry up stairs. Never thought of using the cotton canvas.
I agree. Often, the baggers act like gold fish . . . filling fully, no matter what bag size. I try to bag myself or keep an eye on them. I did watch one young man stuff the bag. I then asked him to put it in the cart. It was kind of funny watching him try to Lift it off the counter only to have it fall to floor. Point was made and he had to replace a broken jar. Hmm, wonder if I’m passive aggressive now. But I like different sizes.
Love this bag, easy to do, you have great tutorials Vanessa, I love the way this bag is finished inside, never thought to do my seams like that, and I have been sewing for years, thanks.
Love this bag (in Ca. the grocery stores do not provide bags for free any more) I made 5 this weekend I think I will love using them. Thank you for the tutorial. I love the way you teach.
Thanks for another great tutorial! I really appreciate your amazingly clear instructions. This is a project that is useful when completed and it's satisfying that it can be accomplished in a short time.
I just priced the Geopop in the colors you used, and it was almost 20 bucks per half yard, my mouth dropped... 10.75 and 8.95 shipping!!. I am determined to make it so I may have to bite a big bullet. lol...or keep browsing for it cheaper. The grey and blk/white version was only 4.95... You are so inspiring always. Thank you!
It would be a great idea for MSQC to put a little separate page where all the things are on one page on their site to purchase things you have used! Another great tutorial CG! !
This is a great tutorial. The bag is sew cute and would help us all use less plastic at the grocery store. I am thinking about making some simple muslin draw string bags to put produce in so I do not have to put them in plastic bags. I am going to embroider some veggies on them.

Vanessa, I turn the box pleats on the bottom toward the middle and top stitch them again to secure them better. Like you, I don't trim them off.
Dear Vanessa, something came up today about those manual folders for sewing hem glad to find it today. 🙏

Cassie Conner. This is the best pattern I saw I looked for day for a pattern. I LOVE IT
DEFINITELY a project I will do. I could see giving my family members a few of these for the trunk container I gave them last year. They'll always have ags when they need them. GREAT idea! Thanks :)
Mc Kenna Glad to help! Happy sewing!
I just made my first tote and machine embroidered on the front. It was super easy as are all your videos. Thanks again.
Vanessa you are a very good instructor, and your confidence, speed and straightforward explanations make it easy to understand how to make your wonderful projects. Thank you!
The use of the ribbon is a great idea! Using totes is excellent for the environment and you don't have to worry about them breaking😉
Tina Johnson Yes! Glad you enjoyed it. :)
Thank you for teaching me a new way to create a bag. Your bag was beautifully sewn. 🙏💐
I have scoured the Internet for the best shopping tote. I've tried many different ones and this is one of my favorites. I am going to make this tonight, Today's weather is perfect for staying in and being creative.

Tote fabric too terrific to fold up. I like the idea of hanging it on a hook and grab and go. Great tutorial.
This is my favorite market bag tutorial I have seen. Thanks! And I love your material choice.
I'm having trouble streaming this - and did for the reversible headband. Am I the only one? I love that you are joining forces with MSQC. I've made several of your creations (fabric boxes and bowls) and love Jenny's videos! My favourites in one place!

I love your videos. They are so well done and great for the novice (me).
That bag with the French seems is AWSOME 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
We have the same 🎉Birthday and I just finished my first bag with foam thank you for sharing

Use dental floss on the button to keep it from coming off. It works great. I use it when I make a coat. You can color the floss with a marker. Roxie
