- Heard it on the radio today, composed by Leo Sayer & David Courtney. This performance by Roger Daltrey really hit a chord with me after missing what it had to offer when it was first released in '73
Stunning. I am crying. 68yrs now and what a wonderful time it was. My 4 lovely children, now adults. What a shocking world we are passing to them.
Legend , I was born in 61 remember all the classics how lucky we was ,
i 62 and greatfull lol
I remember being on the swing in the back garden ....(mooching school) ....... with this record on my transistor radio 🙂
.
I could hear my Mum calling my name and as i looked round she wasnt there !!!!!
.
Her words ........... "THATS OK ...... I NEVER HAD IT ... BUT MY MOTHER COULD HEAR HER GRANDMOTHER"
.
she never lied to me ..... and i failed her in her last days 😞
My youth thanks roger❤
Brings tears to my eyes. I remember my oldest brother turning me on to this in 1970 or 71. Turned 10 in 1970 turned 20 in 80 God I was so lucky to have lived that time in my teens.only the lucky ones go to our grave with those memories
I,m 75 now and does the same for me , PS I was 23 in 1970 OH WOW,,,,, life passes so fast!
grab every thing you can from life ,,its over in a Flash
Yes it does my friend. What a long strange trip it's been. But at least I enjoyed the ride. Happy Hollidays
My late cousin Rob introduced me to this song I was only 10 or 11 at the time love daltry
Douglas Martin, such great sentiments, we were a lucky generation. ❤
Best version is him and Leo singing it together ❤️
Great vocals, we should all cherish the great singers of the 70's, like us they're getting old
There is a duet of this song with Roger and Leo , absolutely brilliant .
Leo Sayer wrote this great song.
Leo Sayer and David Courtney wrote it, Adam Faith produced it ---CAN YOU BELIEVE it failed to even chart in the USA?
You can just hear Leo sayer singing it but Roger puts his heart & soul into it, it's one of those songs you just have to play more than once.
This was made for leo sayer
I saw him ( Leo) perform this in London last year 🙏
We were so young. 😢😊
No song has so many twist and turns, it's a masterpiece
So, ill stand on my and pray!! Brilliant.
Correct,.
First time I heard this song was on a Sunday afternoon at uncle Churches house in 77’ went outside for a walk in the rain on cherry street. I’ve never felt so calm since ❤
Russ Ballard on lead, Bob Henrit on drums , wow !! amazing,
It's worth being old now, to have been young then.
well said!
only in the 70s, best songs ever
A vague memory of this line & the song came to me from my boyhood a half century ago this morning. I'm glad it did. I think it's the story of my life.
Your comptely right like all good songs, they tell story!
Simple, powerful , only gets better and more meaningful.
een van de beste nummer die er is uitgebracht ,sta na zoveel jaren nog steeds zot van ♥

I was 17 when this was released and had just broken up with my first love. Memories flooding back......
Just reminded of it listening to Johnny Walker on Radio 2 today - I loved this when I was 9 years old - have t heard it for many years - love it - Rogers birthday tomorrow I think
God yes, im 60 now..takes me back to better times
Goose bumps and tears in the eyes I get from this song. Music at its best
It reminds me of going in and out of prison at a young age then I was in my cell and someone must of requested the song to be played on the prison radio I remember standing there looking out of my bard windows and this song came on it brought tears to my eyes because it reminded me of my life if that makes sense i never went back prison I haven't for 15years but I'd never forgotten this song

Brilliant 👍👍
Roger at his best 4star
I was fourteen years old when this came out and homeless.
He is a majestic talent.
I paid all my dues so I picked up my shoes,
I got up and walked away.
Oh, I was just a boy,
I didn't know how to play.
Worked hard and failed
now all I can say is
I threw it all away.
Oh, I was just a boy
giving it all away...
sail away, sail away,
ooh, I know better now, I know better now
giving it all away
ooh, I know better now, I know better now
I've given it all away...
Went out in the world too much for my nerves
only myself to blame.
oh, I was just a boy
nobody else to blame...
I've done all I can, now it's out of my hands
stand on my head and say
oh, I was just a boy
giving it all away...
sail away, sail away,
ooh, I know better now, I know better now
giving it all away
ooh, I know better now, I know better now
given it all away..
💘
A real singer.

Omg, this song is like a time machine, in an instance I'm transported back to my childhood 45years ago and it feels like yesterday. What a song and what a voice an amazing live performance full of emotion, love it, many thanks for posting this.

Roger daltrey and the Who simply the best
Good one, Dan. I like this song - have it on an album. Rolls along very nicely, my good friend. Not to be confused with Cisco Kid and Pancho, eh.
The scary thing is that Roger Daltrey is almost 80 years old now.

Great singer
I like how at 79 on that cruise show here on youtube he sings it in the same key, and I dare say it's even better than this great version.
Brilliant
Untoucheable
Rodger Daltry was brillant.
Mon Dieu ça me rappelle ma chère enfance 😭😭😭
This was my very first Single, i was 9 or 10 Years old in Lisbon. The B side also had a nice title but unfortunately I forgot it.

I love Rogers solo work,.. he seems to have more soul in his voice. I think he actually sounds better than he does with The Who,……
