My favourite solo artists of the 70’s ..loved all 70’s music but Leo Sayer had some of the best hits of the decade ..prolific hit maker but very underrated

Pure genius. Leo Sayer (and a few others - Cat Stevens, Mud, Racey) gave my unhappy and troublesome childhood moments of joy with uplifting tunes. Leo was different, a real poet and interpreter.

I saw Leo at Ebbets Field, a nightclub that sat 250 in Denver Colorado,in 1973. He preformed in the clown suit and was simply amazing. He opened for The Climax Blues Band. Both were relatively unknown in the States at the time. How lucky at 17 years old was I ?

Leo Sayer is possibly one of Britains finest performers, and yet was most under rated, this song along with the show must go on, are lyrical masterpieces, and Leo's performance tells the story perfectly.

    • @Pragwo1f
      @Pragwo1f 9 лет назад +19

***** Agreed. There's more than a touch of genius in both the songwriting and delivery. Not untypically for such an exceptional British talent, he ultimately got a raw deal, and Britain has probably lost him forever to Australia.

    • @patagualianmostly7437
      @patagualianmostly7437 7 лет назад +16

Yes indeed. At that time he was simply brilliant.....I loved him, but he was overshadowed by the "Big Rock Bands" he had no chance at that time.
Lyrical Masterpieces....absolutely....brilliant presentation.....Just did not hit the the niche at the right time....A tragedy I'd say. ....Given better, balanced TV coverage, he'd have been one of the unforgetables of Britain.
But hey: That's just the way it goes. Like a long stem Rose. Everybody knows.

    • @anthonysteel6877

He wasn't underrated to begin with in the early to mid seventies (a fabulous time by the way, not anything like neo-liberal propaganda would have you believe)he made some fantastic music that still sounds as good today,in my opinion,as it did then.I haven't seen or heard him for a while but I hope he is fit and well.

      TuerkischBaer I'm so happily married! But thanks for asking! Hope you find the one that is right for you! Took me till I was 42 years old to find my Guy, but I did, so there's hope for us all to find the right one as long as 'every step we take' and 'every move we make' is directed towards the one we don't yet know how they look or how they sound or how they are... and sometimes, if we look back, we can understand that there are people who have loved us blindly without ever saying a single word, and we've not even seen them or remembered their name! Yup, it's not easy for some of us to find the one, but I have hope for all of Creation to make their way towards their soul mates and soul families... Stay good and always communicate! No one can read your mind! Not that they can't, just that they're busy with other stuff! Anyways, I'm complimented, and thank you! May you have a super awesome journey towards the one you love! She's out there, I'm telling you, and either you've just been 'blinded by the light', or 'deafened by the thundering of your hearts'! Or both! Best wishes always to you and yours, raine and pierre :-}

It happens buddy, he was very popular in the UK and did have a point where he was very popular in the United states appearing on sesame street, the muppets, and probally a bunch of other shows,he was aired on the radio a lot and did very well in the disco era.

oO0E Unfortunately, being british does not instill all of us with any taste, class, or for that matter, brains or culture. In fact, we probably have a larger proportion of morons than other countries. Leo Sayer had far more success over here with songs he wrote for other, more popular people to perform. A pity, as he is far more talented than all of them, or at least, the ones I know about. I too was dragged up in the 80s and it is only because my mother is an exceptional person that I know and appreciate his work - I usually like super hard metal

I was just sitting, thinking of a new song I could add to my repertoire as a solo performer and this hit me. What a cool song...happy. tells a short story. Thanks Leo!

Well everybody knows down Ladbroke Grove
You have to leap across the street
You can lose your life under a taxi cab
You gotta have eyes in your feet
You find a nice soft corner and you sit right down
Take up your guitar and play
But then the law man comes says move along
So you move along all day
Well I'm a one man band
    Nobody knows nor understands
Is there anybody out there wanna lend me a hand
    To my one man band?
For three days now I haven't eaten at all
My, my you must be getting so thin
And soon my cap won't be large enough
To drop a half a crown in
So hey there mister don't you look so sad
Don't look so ill at ease
Well I can play you any song you like
To cheer up that life you lead
Well I'm a one man band
    Nobody knows nor understands
Is there anybody out there wanna lend me a hand
    To my one man band?
And oh, oh, oh look at the rain falling!
Oh, oh, oh look at it rain!
    Oh look at it rain!
    Nobody sees the minstrel boy
As he sings his tale of woe
    Nobody sees him coming
    Nobody see him go
So hey there mister don't you look so sad
Don't look so ill at ease
Well I can play you any song you like
To cheer up that life you lead
Well I'm a one man band
    Nobody knows nor understands
Is there anybody out there wanna lend me a hand
    To my one man band?
Well I'm a one man band
    Nobody knows nor understands
Is there anybody out there wanna lend me a hand
    To my one man band?
Oh I'm a one man band
    Just a one man band
Oh I'm a one man band

Great stuff. This brings back so many memories. The really great thing is that Leo is still performing. He emigrated to Australia a few years ago & still tours the clubs, in fact, i'm off to see him live in a couple of weeks. I hope he does this one.
