Leo Sayer is possibly one of Britains finest performers, and yet was most under rated, this song along with the show must go on, are lyrical masterpieces, and Leo's performance tells the story perfectly.
***** Agreed. There's more than a touch of genius in both the songwriting and delivery. Not untypically for such an exceptional British talent, he ultimately got a raw deal, and Britain has probably lost him forever to Australia.
Yes indeed. At that time he was simply brilliant.....I loved him, but he was overshadowed by the "Big Rock Bands" he had no chance at that time. Lyrical Masterpieces....absolutely....brilliant presentation.....Just did not hit the the niche at the right time....A tragedy I'd say. ....Given better, balanced TV coverage, he'd have been one of the unforgetables of Britain. But hey: That's just the way it goes. Like a long stem Rose. Everybody knows.
He wasn't underrated to begin with in the early to mid seventies (a fabulous time by the way, not anything like neo-liberal propaganda would have you believe)he made some fantastic music that still sounds as good today,in my opinion,as it did then.I haven't seen or heard him for a while but I hope he is fit and well.
My favourite solo artists of the 70’s ..loved all 70’s music but Leo Sayer had some of the best hits of the decade ..prolific hit maker but very underrated
Pure genius. Leo Sayer (and a few others - Cat Stevens, Mud, Racey) gave my unhappy and troublesome childhood moments of joy with uplifting tunes. Leo was different, a real poet and interpreter.
wish I could hang out with all the fans here, cant seem to find people in real life that actually get the magnitude of this talent...bravo Leo and friends.
I saw Leo at Ebbets Field, a nightclub that sat 250 in Denver Colorado,in 1973. He preformed in the clown suit and was simply amazing. He opened for The Climax Blues Band. Both were relatively unknown in the States at the time. How lucky at 17 years old was I ?
I saw Leo in concert in the late seventies and again about seven years ago. He still sounded and performed in exactly the same way in the latter concert, even though he was approaching his seventies! I am still a huge fan, still listen to his music.

Listen, I have never really paid much attention to Leo Sayer before. Yes I remember hearing "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" as kid, but it is a revelation to see him perform. He is truly an amazing talent with an amazing presence on the stage. He communicates so much more than just with his voice. He is a complete package. I think I appreciate so much more the years in which I grew up now, than I ever did living them.

I think someone else said on here that if they had a time machine, this is a show they'd travel back to. I agree, Leo Sayer is so underrated it's criminal.
regardless how well it is performed or how technically and naturally gifted the singer, there is something very special that comes across when the writer sings it, that no one else gets
Brilliant stuff! In these days of processed vocals and pitch correction it's so nice to hear a singer with an honest-to-god set of pipes cutting loose. We really were spoiled for great singers in the seventies.
I was born in the early 80's in the States and am ashamed to say I only found Leo Sayer's music a few years ago. I rank him up there with the best England had to offer at the time. Why isn't he massively more popular?
It happens buddy, he was very popular in the UK and did have a point where he was very popular in the United states appearing on sesame street, the muppets, and probally a bunch of other shows,he was aired on the radio a lot and did very well in the disco era.
oO0E Unfortunately, being british does not instill all of us with any taste, class, or for that matter, brains or culture. A pity, as he is far more talented than all of them, or at least, the ones I know about. I too was dragged up in the 80s and it is only because my mother is an exceptional person that I know and appreciate his work - I usually like super hard metal
