The Day After: Edmonton Oilers 3, Vancouver Canucks 4 Discussion | VAN LEADS 2-1

  • In today's Day After Episode I discuss the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 loss on home ice to the Vancouver Canucks in game 3. The #oilers fall behind 2-1 in the series despite outshooting the #canucks 45-18 in the game. Stuart Skinner was abysmal, Nurse-Ceci are completely unplayable, and Connor McDavid was held pointless. McDavid also took a hard cross-check to the face from Carson Soucy but the response on the ice by the Oilers players was lacking in my opinion. That is concerning. The Oilers need more from the rest of the lineup or else this series will be over in 5 games. There's a lot to talk about so sit back, relax, grab a snack and let's get into it. #nhl

I’ve been trying to do that in comments all over… the problem is the “toxic” elements of both fan bases come out in droves during times like this, and they all tend to be squeaky wheel bullies… it’s very hard to stay level headed when chatting with people like that..

    Nuck fan coming in peace. I mentioned it on your other vids before. You actually watch the games, pay attention to the meta data, and understand the game within the game. Kudos for that. I predicted Nucks in 7. Not because of homerism but objectively I would be more comfortable going into a series with balance rather than superior top end talent. As for a possible Soucy suspension, not going to happen. The league would have to do some major mental gymnastics to justify it. If they suspend Soucy, they have to look at McD as well as Z. Not to mention they would be setting a f'd up precedent, which would spillover to all the other series.

  • @NilrocFilms
    @NilrocFilms 10 дней назад +15

    As a Canucks fan I appreciate your unbiased look at the games. As far as a suspension for Soucy I can’t see that happening because of the Marchand Punch. I would like to bring up that NcDavid is no angel out there. He is always doing dirty stuff with his stick that goes unnoticed all the time. Even on the play you referenced he did a wicked slash first. What I’m trying to say is McDavid brings these things on to himself with his dirty play. Case in point high stick on Hughes game 2.
    Also nothing was called by the Refs game 2 on Kane for a Slew Foot(Actually 2 that game) Were in the playoffs and a lot of dirty stuff goes on both sides. If they do suspend Soucy it will make the NHL look bias towards one team. I think we both know who the league really wants to get through and that would be the Oilers. Case in point having Kelly Sutherland ref game 2. That guy has a history with the Canucks and it’s not good. Keep up the great work!

    The whole ref discussion has been around since the dawn of hockey. It is a part of the playoffs to me. This is playoff hockey, shit happens. It's the team that doesn't let it let them crumble that comes out on top. We learned that back in 2011 losing to the Bruins. Refs were atrocious but our Canucks let the Bruins beat them down. There have have been an insane amount of missed calls on both sides so it is even in that regards. It’s impossible to win in the playoffs without average goaltending. Skinner has been atrocious for second year in a row. It’s not because Vancouver is better, 40 plus shots is more than enough. We have a suck goalie, sub 800, and we will waste another year again if he starts again in this playoffs.

      Austin is too soft on Skinner. He isn't a major reason they are losing. He is the MAIN reason they are losing. The oilers offence has been better. If they had an average goaltender, they'd be fine. How do you not bolster your goaltending for 2 years when all you have is Skinner, Campbell, and Pickard. Wasting generational talent by neglecting half the game and crossing your fingers and assuming their goaltenders would just improve

    First time in this series I chimed into the opponents realm and found your channel. Very articulate in your analysis and even though I'm not as familiar with the team, I've gotta say everything you've said made sense. Love the Simpsons reference. I'd totally take out Cici and replace with Stecher. He stepped it up during the 2020 play in playoffs for VAN. Can definitely give you effective minutes as second pair again. He played with heart and soul. Always plays with Grit. Which seems exactly what you'll need. But Knoblock is not experienced to know what he has in the press box. And he keeps playing those 5 guys to the bone. Our VAN commentator noted the same thing in the 3rd period. It looked as though he's completely frustrated/loss behind the bench. Tocchet implemented the standard plan against a top heavy ie. one line team. He assigned not just one, but two checking line. Miller and Lindholm. What's even better is they're not just checking McDavid & Assoc's, they're countering with goals against. It's absolutely brilliant. Cause even if you assign one checking line ie. Miller (as he did in 1st/2nd game of the season), the other three lines out matches oilers other 3 lines. Look forward to subsequent games video from you.

    In my opinion, I agree with the team supporting their captain statement. I believe the canucks are going harder at McDavid as a result of how the oilers were going after hughes. McDavids stick to his face with the cut and no call and then sending him off the ice, and the slew foot.

    One thing I find weird is we've only had one line going this series but you want someone to jump in and even take a suspension to stand up for mcdavid.... but think about who's on the ice, imagine this team without Drai, Nuge, Hyman, Bouch, or Ekholm suspended game 4. You can't have one of those players take a stupid suspension. Take a number, get him next game.

      But you absolutely can. Last year Woodcroft mentioned that the Oilers will get on average 3 goals a game, so if you can hold the other team to 3 or less goals The Oilers have a very high chance of winning that game. The moment Skinner let in a third goal in the first period there is no reason for him coming out in the second. Obviously he’s not going to be the goalie to keep the oilers in it for the rest of the game.
      At least if Pics came out then you can say that you tried a solution, even if it didn’t end up working out. Let’s not forget that Skinner did exactly this last year in the second round against Vegas, he has a history you can look at and if management isn’t going to address The Oilers lack of a
      Playoff goaltender, then maybe run what we have as a tandem.
