- This is it Oil Country, the Western Conference Finals begin tonight! Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers faceoff against Wyatt Johnston and the Dallas Stars in Game 1. The #oilers and #texashockey have not met in a playoff series since 2003! There is a lot of history between these two teams from the late 90s and early 00s and for Oilers fans, you're hoping for some major redemption. Stuart Skinner gets the start for Edmonton as he goes up against Jake Oettinger for Dallas in goal. This is going to be an exciting and terrific series of hockey and I cannot wait. The Kane/Drai/Holloway line has been super entertaining to watch. The slower methodical playmaking from Drai is a perfect fit for Holloway

Oilers are another Avalanche to me. Top heavy. PP dependent and average goal tending. I’m a Stars fan and anything can happen but I trust our depth and mix of young talent and experienced talent.
I’m predicting 5-3 Oilers. I definitely don’t expect the stars to come out too hot and the oilers will push in the first so I think we’ll get an early lead and then start giving it away as the game goes on, but never know… LETS GO OILERS!!!
Just like the Canucks the Oilers can be wicked good or wicked bad. Wishing them good luck and to make it to the finals. A game needed every night in this series

The stars coach hasn't gotten a win in game 1. So a good showing from the Oilers will help to get a early lead on the series.
Everyone needs to be contributing on the Oilers this series, or it'll be a short one.
Getting up early and making the Stars play from behind will be important.
Drai has 2 EV goals, 6 PP goals. I think you don’t remember the EV goals cause they were against LA, and 1 of them was right after a PP ended

I've actually given so much credit to every Oilers opponent so far that I've had Oilers fans think I'm not homer enough lol In my series preview I said if Skinner falters then it's Stars in 4 or 5. The longer you stay the more you'll notice that I'm not as much of a homer as you think at first glance. Good luck in the series =)

Our old guys play on the 4th line not top 4 defenceman, you think 39 year old sutter is going to keep up with Mcdavid.oilers have played Tanev for years in the battle of Alberta so he is nothing new. Seguin 32,Benn 35, tanev 35, pavelski 39, dadanov 35, sutter 39, smith 39, duchene 33(tail end of prime). The oldest oilers in lineup is ryan 39, Kane 33, ekholm 34, carrick 32, Henrique 34, nuge 32. Everyone else on both teams are 31 and younger still in there primes . You have 39 year old on the second line.
Be a low scoring game for oilers. High for Dallas... hope I'm wrong
I genuinely want an explanation for this: are the oilers also not a deep team? We have 14 NHL forwards on the roster. I think our offence comes a little more from the top but foegle played most of the year on the top 6 - played really well. Now our 3rd liner. McLeod doesn’t get enough credit. Holloway finally blooming. Brown - exceptional defence and has pedigree. Ryan and Perry - grizzled mature vets. Janmark plays his role WELL. Carrick noticable forchecker. Nvm Henrique not being in last series barely at all. Like… I get that we don’t score my committee but say the oilers aren’t deep I just don’t get.
I just meant that most of the offense generated usually comes from 5 or 6 guys on Edmonton whereas the Stars seem to get scoring from all 4 lines. It's not to discredit the Oilers in any way, but in the post-season Foegele has 1 goal (an empty netter in Game 1 against the Kings), McLeod has 0 goals, Ryan 0 goals, Brown 0 goals, Henrique 1 goal (though mostly injured), Carrick 0 goals, Perry 0 goals. Being a good role-player or checker or grinder or PKer is obviously important but you need more offense from the bottom-six to have success in the playoffs. Edmonton's role players need to produce a bit more IMO.

My PTW: Holloway and score prediction: 4-2 GO OILERS Go
Did a quick points and goals comparison between the two teams. Oilers have the much better first line, better second line and better defence scoring depth. Stars have better 3rd line and much better 4th line. When balanced for TOI oilers should hold the scoring and shot attempt leads in most games.
Biggest disadvantage for oil is in goal, and the schizophrenic defence. If the Defence is good to close out the playoffs Oilers in 6. If they also win the 3rd line scoring Oilers in 5. If defence falters, Stars win in 6.
When the oilers play at their best, which is fairly infrequently, they beat any team in the league. The secret sauce to this series will be which Edmonton oilers show up

Same, kind of. I don’t expect the oilers to win, Dallas is a better team than Vancouver. So it would have so much worse to lose against Vancouver, and I was much more nervous going into that series. I’m a lot calmer about this
I'm looking forward to this series. Miss the days of seeing the Oilers annually in the Salo/Cujo days. I, of course, have a different opinion about the first game finish. Go Stars!
shesterkin was arguably the best goalie left in the playoffs and he struggled a bit last night. goaltending is such a streaky postition.

The good news is Connor is a race horse and does better the more he plays. He doesnt need rest so he'll come out flying.
