Wayne Gretzky is considered the GOAT, but do you think Connor McDavid could become a more legendary Oiler?

Wayne's hockey IQ was probably higher, but there's zero doubt McDavid's skillset is faaaaar superior. But its really not fair comparing different eras like this.

in the 80s goalies were not that good i can imagine Connor playing in the 80s and easily make 300 pts or more and if you take Wayne young again and make him play today he would be good but probably equal to guys like Panarin , Patrick Kane , Crosby not better for sure

2nd season 109 assits, plus 55 goals, i remember in his 3rd season, he had like 45 goals at game 38. Just think about that wooden stick with no flex, i bet a guy at work he would get 5 goals and get 50 goals in 39 games. Wayne got 92 goals that year in the NHL plus 120 apples. Im sorry if you had the opportunity to watch him play live, there is no doubt that he is the greatest goal scorer, greatest play maker, they put him on the PK just to scare the other teams.

Gretzky in his prime was far beyond any other player. He would create grade A scoring chances almost every rush often out of nothing. A lot has been said about the different era, but Gretz played at a time when defenders were allowed to clutch and grab a lot more than they can now. But he was like a ghost out there, opposing players couldn't touch him. Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr and Connor McDavid had 100 assist seasons, Wayne Gretzky did it 11 times.

Gretzky had like 167 points in his rookie season, but he had 1 goal less, so he didn't get his name on the art ross, he didn't win the rookie of the year either. The NHL did everything they could to prevent him from having too many points. Also in the day a 2 line pass was offside

Ill catch allot of shit for this, but the league Gordie Howe played in is the equivalent to highschool level today. If he were alive today he wouldn't stand a chance in todays NHL.

Even Gretz said if he played in this era that he wouldn't have had half the points he did because the goalies and their equipment wasn't as good back then. He's so humble and honest in saying that. Having said that, imagine Mcdavid, Mackinnon, Crosby or Ovi if they started their careers in 1979 against the weaker goalies. Would be interesting to see what their yearly points would be.
