On Suzuki's role with the Canadiens : it has been reported that it was Suzuki that asked the coach to put Slafkovski on his line with Caufield. Add to that he has the pressure of being the team's captain at 24 years old in a market such as Montréal..!
Crazier story about Slaf : Seems like in November, Habs management group (Hughes and Gorton) talked with St-Louis about the ‘’maybe’’ possibility to send Slafkovsky in the AHL, but St-Louis was against the idea and he clearly said that he want to keep him in the NHL and that he will gonna breakout soon. Two months after, he was likely the 2nd best foward in the Habs roster……
he is at the core of the whole rebuild, great dude. bridges the gap between new young talent and seasoned veterans. as you mentioned he is the youngest captain in franchise history
@@alex-dj9bxveteran move by the HOF player. That’s why he’s such a great coach and fit. He’s helped TREMENDOUSLY with Slav’s development. So hard to pick the right guy for the job and the habs hit a home run
Fucking insane. Imagine having a 90 point season just to finish second on your team, BY FIFTY FOUR POINTS!!!
You can make a VERY strong argument for binnington being the MVP of the blues
He was top 10 in alot of stats and was a major reason that the blues came as close as they did to make the playoffs
Matthews over mcdavid is crazy
McDavid had help from Draisaitl and Bouchard
Mathews had Marner and Nelander even from a leafs fan
Goals still mean a lot more than assists. I think analytics calculates an assist as like .66 to a goal?
@@HarrisonHollersbs, every assist is a play made turned into a goal. Matthews is a puck hog who does not actually better the team around him. Mcdavid turns his teammates into gold. Big difference.
@@mcthunderstick2374 I’m not arguing. I’m stating a point about analytics. Thats why Matthews has so much Blue on his charts. McDavid is clearly the best in the league. I don’t get how Pasta and Panarin don’t get more love since they don’t really have the same elite supporting cast on their lines. Panarin’s team finished 1st just saying.
Really love this idea for a video; giving your trophy picks combined with a one from every team video, kinda giving a end of year recap for all thirty two teams... great vid!
Points aside. Larkin had a higher ppg, our teams record is massively worse without him than it is with him. And Larkin is a good defensive forward. He was the MVP this year. Lucas Raymond and Lyon are close seconds
He is also the heartbeat of that team tbh
Without MacKinnon, Colorado still has a good chance of making the playoffs. Without Kucherov, Tampa is golfing right now.
They'll be golfing after the next game anyway😏
@@jannemiettinen4499nope, and guess who had 3 assists to keep them alive for at least one more game. You have to go digging for Mack’s points in between all the aves players who have scored on Hellebuyck
Что за бред я щас прочитал)
Кучеров шакалит очки в большинстве и на пустых воротах)
А Макки это двигатели своих команд и выполняют объём работы в разы больше,чем говнючер)
Both of the Red Wings’ major losing skids this year directly followed Larkin getting injured. Raymond was definitely the most improved, but Larkin’s presence dictated whether this team was a playoff contender or a freefalling wreck of a team.
Wait Granlund was almost ppg with 9% shooting percentage? Woah.
Binner and Hofer were most definitely the MVP for the blues this year they both played insanely good and kept them in a lot of games they probably shouldn’t have been.
Great Video, as usual, Nyquist. I agree with you on your picks.
Jake Sanderson was the MVP of the Sens for me. pts wise he's obviously not up there, but watching him defensively and consistently shutting down the best players on the other team every night. Having all the hard matchups and still ending the season as the plus minus leader on a terrible Sens team. It's a no brainer for me that Sanderson was the MVP.
My Dallas MVP would have been my guy, Wyatt Johnston
Duchene really good too. Tough team to pick just one MVP
Another fun video bud, thanks
When Granlund started playing with Eklund and zetterlund he was ppg and he would easily be ppg on a good team
the Kucherov disrespect is insane
He set an NHL record for empty net points this year
Hawks fan and I gotta make a case for Petr Mrazek. His stats don't do him justice because of the awful team playing in front of him. He stole a lot of games for us and really gave the team more confidence compared to when Soderblom was playing. Can't argue against Bedard though, kid is amazing already
Vatrano was the only Duck who played 82 games too, I’d love him on the third line next year assuming Anaheim’s top players are healthy and Verbeek acquires a top 6 scorer like he said he intends too, Ducks will take a sizable step in the standings if they fire Newell Brown and don’t have 250+ man games lost next year
Thomas is a close second but Binnington is the Blues MVP.
First Gustafson now daccord the sens are really good at drafting goalies but they trade them away too soon
I’ve been watching hockey for 11 years now, and I think this is the runaway for best season I’ve ever watched.
The race for MVP and the presidents trophy race was something special to watch this year.
The players chasing their own history:
- Matthews chasing 70
- Kuch and Mcdavid hitting 100A
-Mackinnon trying for a point in every home game
No other season has ever been this good!
And my habs didn’t even make the playoffs 😂
Wait, ur a Celtics fan and a Habs fan 🤣 how tf
@@toastgalaxy776 Im from a small town in NL Canada, grew up around a family of habs fans. I started getting into basketball when Isaiah Thomas was killing the league at 5’9” and it was then I realized the Irish heritage in Boston is very similar to Irish heritage in Newfoundland. Made me appreciate them not just for the players on the team at the time, but for the city itself.
Understandable question though, I get it a lot 🤣🤣
@@aboxus3302 love hearing about things like that and IT was an absolute boss should have won MVP.
Really enjoyed the video. Impossible task to rank MVPs, but as a bias ducks fan I think my boy Frank the Tank didn’t get enough love. 37 goals was above a ton of guys that you think of. And he plays hard.
Hot take: Frank Vatrano had a better season than Connor Bedard.
As a blues fan whos favorite player is Robert Thomas, i gotta give their mvp title to Jordan Binnington who had an absolute monster season and most likely would have been a vezina trophy finalist had he played on a top team
An interesting stat about Robert Thomas, he played the most minutes against other teams’ top lines of all centers in the entire league and still finished with a positive +/- and 86 points. It may not sound super impressive, but remember he’s doing that playing with players like Kyrou or Buchnevich that would probably be on a second line for contending teams. He didn’t have the best supporting cast. Dude should be considered for a selke.
I think wings mvps go
1) Dylan Larkin
2) Lucas Raymond
3) Patrick Kane
4) Alex Lyon
5) Moritz Sieder
Crazy how many young captains there are in the league now. I think the future of the NHL is very bright!
The league is in such a great place with talent! Only looking at the talent of the Defensemen, many teams can claim their guy as a dynamic contributor to the team’s success on the backend.
Rank the best indicators of a goalie performance:
- Wins
- Save percentage
- Goals against average
- Shutouts
- Goals saved above average (Hockey Reference)
- Goals saved above expected (Evolving Hockey)
Also how does one determine the defensive impact of a player? Is it possession metrics? What about before 2007-08, when the NHL started tracking possession and advanced analytics ?
Well, since I created GSAA, I think that should be #1 indicator.
The Blues should totally be parayko. Thomas was great but parayko was one of if not the only reasons we were competitive all year long. He seriously might be the best defense player in the leauge and the most underrated.
Kuch should win the Hart by definition, he factored in on a greater % of his teams goals than MacKinnon and had more points in less games
I really do think that the Nashville Predators have Josi and Forsberg to share the MVP. It really sucks that Josi is not in the Norris convo like you said but there are a lot of candidates that probably have much more change in that onversation.
Disagree with Robert Thomas on the Blues. Jordan Binnington should be the MVP there, though I'd put Thomas 2nd.
I wouodve put kadri for the flames. Led the team in points and helped connor zary martin Posposil emerge and got andrei kuzmenko back on his game at the end of the season.
Mathew’s at 4 Mcdavid at 3
144 points and only +8.... it's crazy. That's why the Art Ross is an individual trophy and means nothing.
people sleep on how well pastrnak did playing with bums, slow finish to the season but he carried HARD offensively and imo the hardest carry besides kucherov
Here's my simple argument for anyone that says 38 assists isn't good enough to win the Hart.
If that's your stance, then 32 goals - McDavid's total - isn't ANYWHERE FUCKING CLOSE to good enough to win the Hart.
Hughes is probably 4th after McKinnon, mcdavid and kuchy
Eh Panarin should be top five if not top 4, mcdavid is still more impactful than Matthew’s. I’m mostly fine with putting Matthews over Panarin, but I still think the season Panarin had is extremely overlooked. He almost single handily turned Laf’s career around while easily putting up career highs in an offense where a lot of guys were not having their best seasons.
mrazek was the best player on the blackhawks
if they didn’t have mrazek the they would have finished below the sharks
Big isles fan. I like Dobson but I just feel he’s so clumsy. There’s maybe one or two plays every 5-6 games or so and you scratch your head at what the thought process was. But I’m very critical of that guy too so……
Even though Reinhart is putting incredible numbers, I'd still go with Barkov. Every player of his line has had career year, Huberdeau, Tkachuk and now Reinhart. Probably the team could manage without Reinhart but would it without Barkov?
The Devils best player was in fact Nico Hischer. He does it all. He's the Captain and plays very well in all situations. Jack is underweight and he gets knocked around too much resulting in countless injuries that keep him out of the lineup. He's about the same size and weight as Lucas Raymond was last season before he put 15 lb's of muscle on. Jack should take note and do the same things Raymond did to beef up his frame and start dishing out as much as he takes. Then perhaps he'll be the Devil's MVP but he isn't "that guy" just yet.
Aho just has had terrible luck with his teammates in the post season because they always seem to get injured until this year. Last year half way through the series Turbo got injured and earlier in the season Svech and Patches were injured so basically what I'm saying is is that he had NO ONE (besides Jarvis who wasn't having the best year) but this year he now has Jarvis (who is on a fking tear I know what I just said is confusing so I hope you get what I mean) and Guentzel who is 100% clicking with both of them it's gonna be a wild postseason for those two teams.
It could very well be wrong, because it sounds too insane to be true for such a young player.
Is Suzuki THE current forward within the entire NHL with the most consecutive games (so current ironman streak for a forward)?
And thus 3rd overall if you include Ds as well?
If the info is good, just look who are the 2 Ds that have played more consecutive games (I mean come on, any of them could be Suzuki's real dad lol, 2 freaking legends).
I mean, it's good company for the young captain. And got there at 24 yo while being the first line center of a team that has been suffering from the goddamn black plague for 3 seasons straight.
After the cup run the team got destroyed.
The season after was historic because it was basically him and a black plague infested team thus supplemented by AHL players.
This season?
He was he only center we basically had for most of the sea lol.
- Game 2, Dach fell into the dark pit under the Bell Center;
- Game, hm... 0? Jedi Knight Dvorak went back to the parallel dimension he came from (stats indicate he played 30 games, but we all know it was some sort of projection using the force or similar trick of the mind. Otherwise how can you be there but also completely invisible at the same time. No footage of him playing this year exists :P).
- Newhook? Eh, at least he played more than half the season, but still, injury problems. He fell awkwardly during his pre-match auto erotic asphyxiation routine; That's what we call a REAL "lower body injury" if you catch my drift...
So day in day out against the best lines in the league; he's a though kid alright!
We all would pick Mcdavid first if we were playing shinny hockey. No question.
Next Raymond will be top 5 and if he does get the nomination for the hart ill get a tattoo of ur logo
Bedard arguably Hawks MVP though I think Mrázek could have an edge over him…
Love kirill, but it’s gotta be faber
Granlund is underrated
Hughes is more essential to the Canucks success than Reinhart or Panarin
Well yeah, Reinhart and Panarin don’t play for Vancouver.
lol Brady that low is hilarious
not even the mvp
Not really
Brady tkachuk kind of looks like erling haaland
Jordan Binnington was without a doubt the Blues MVP
In my opinion its a 2 horse race for Hart... in 3rd is Bread Man. He has been great all around for the Rangers. Matthews has scored a ton but outside of that he is kinda bland. Kuch almost had as many assists as matthews had points and matthews had 69 goals. Thats really fucking sad for Matthews. Matthews shouldn't get a single 1st place vote for Hart
The Atlantic is a nightmare to make playoffs. You got beat out by the Caps, what worldndo you like in where this doesn't hurt.
Listen I consider Robert Thomas and nick suzuki pretty close idk why u think Thomas is was better remember he has a better team then Suzuki yet only 9 points more less goals and not as great at defence as Suzuki but close so u have to explain the huge difference better
Crosby at #8!?!?!? You must be a Crosby hater, if not what is Most Valuable Player mean than? That "insane stretch " where he single handedly pushed a horrible playing team 1 game from the playoffs, while scoring 94 points, the best 200 ft player in the game, one of his best F/O % of his career, on and on. Top #4 easily man, come on. Be better than that!
Markstrom to colorado get innn!!!!
Panarin > Matthews
Dude, Kuch is by far the most valuable player. Mack would be # 2. Kuch was involved in 50% of his teams goals.
The avs have fourgiev in net & Makar having a terrible defensive year, this year mac was the avs best defensive player and having that insane offensive season, I just can't see kuch over mac. Also defense is half of the game so...
@@radek_taylor34 You aren't wrong.
Kucherov should've been first
Only Gretzky and Lemieux had scored 40 goals and 100 assists in a season before this year. We know who the mvp is
Go jets go
This Video but least valuable player from every team!
You’d have to be on meth to put Matthews above McDavid.
One thing i disagree with. Feel like OhNyquist is the Hart/Season MVP for Hockey content creator in the 23-24 season. Great vids bro. Agree with everything here
Crosby too low

+8 for Kucherov vs +35 for MacKinnon with only 4 pts difference...
My choice is done!
MacKinnon is my pick!
If McDavid was number 1 in points, for his bad start, I'd pick him as the Hart Trophy but MacKinnon was constant all year long plus being a two-way forward.
Kucherov... Lots of skills but defensively, not better than the Rules of Nature MacKinnon.
+\- is more a team stat, compare the teams of Colorado and Tampa bay and injuries that occurred this season, and that’ll tell you why that stat is the way it is.
I wonder how many assists McDavid would have ended If he did not miss those few games
I've not even watched it yet but josi is too low
And yep. 100% should be higher because he was absolutely vital for the preds. Even if he wasn't better than hughes he should be higher in mvp rankings
I want Mackinnon to win hart
I gotta say, I disagree with this list.
It’s subjective most people probably don’t have this exact list as their picks.
Kuch over Mack
