- In this week's video, I'll offer my review of the AstrHori (Rockstar) 40mm f/5.6 Lens for Leica M Mount. The twist? I'll be using it on a sensor much larger than it was designed for. Will it hold up?

Even though the price is seemingly great for the GFX at the first glance, it really is not - considering that it is an adapted lens that was never intended for it. Within that realm (adapted 40-ish mm that happen to work on GFX), I can recommend a couple more lenses that I myself have tested and that work well on the GFX. Price/performance ratio considered, I think these are better offerings.
Manual:
1. Minolta 45mm f/2. Covers the GFX quite well, is manual like AstrHori. Vignettes a bit wide-open, but much faster @ f/2. Infintissimaly cheaper - mine was $10.
2. Konica Hexanon 40mm f/1.8. Covers the GFX quite well, is manual like AstrHori. Vignettes wide-open, but covers the GFX. Much, much faster wide-open @ f/1.8, and much, much cheaper - mine was $30.
AF:
3. Canon EF 40mm f/2.8. Covers the GFX without vignetting and works like a charm with an AF adapter (Mine is Andoer). Obviously faster than AstrHori. Has AF.
4. Tamron 45mm f/1.8 for Canon EF. Works phenomenally well, covering the GFX without much vignetting. Faster, brighter, has AF on my Andoer AF adapter. The most expensive of the recommended bunch, but at around the same price as AstrHori for a used copy.

Very interesting. How was it focusing manually on the GFX?
Being an f/5.6 lens, it's very easy. You just need to get things in the ballpark and you'll be fine.
Fun, interesting. I have the canon 40mm EF pancake and it works very well. ($125.00 US on eBay, but you need an adapter) Some apertures do not seem to vignette. Admitted I mostly shot it in square format.
I have yet to try it on my new 100S which I got in part based on your recommendation ( in lieu of 50S II).
I find the 100S a bit modern for my taste having used the Pentax 67 for years. But I understand why Fuji did what they did.
That being said, I was simply floored by the camera. Shooting college house weather vanes in Cambridge Massachusetts at well over 100 yards away using the Canon 100-400 handheld (at about 1/300) produced totally useable images of just the ball and spike. The images look like I was in a crane bucket seat using normal lens very nearby.
Needless to say I am very happy I followed your advice.
I miss the rotating viewer and need to learn how to lock iso. Still, I consider the camera without doubt the best I have used.

I've heard of quite a few people using that little Canon lens. Aparently, it works quite well with the AF adapters as well.
Thank you very for the 65:24 image…beautiful. Since I purchased a used GGX 60R my digital XPAN, this lens looks great for street panos…versus the larger 35-70.

I have the same issue with the Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm .95, the aperture blade is in front and I make the mistake every... single... time!!! Just can't get used to it, worse thing is the ring is declicked and soft so I cannot blindly and just by sound put it back in position like I'd do with a clicked one, I need to take the camera off my eye.
Well, after all it's a .95 lens, I'm just gonna glue it in this position and from now on I'm just gonna be a bokeh hunter.
I'd love to see the results on an xpro3 or xt4.
just buy full frame and cameras...its just a minor crop against medium format...it makes only sense for fujifilm.
You get a free lens and then doesn’t take the time to find out the proper pronunciation. This is not a true redesign for a GFX. All the did was use an adapter.
