Thank you for the review, as always you have at a decent level! For a number of the owners of GFX 100S (and other GFX cameras), of course, it would be interesting and important to compare it in detail not with 17mm Laowa, but with a 20 mm focal length of GF 20-35/4 mm lens! It would be great if you or someone else could do it in the near future!

If you can convince Fujifilm to send over the 20-35, I'd glady do it! My guess is that the 19mm is going to be sharper than the 17mm because it was designed for the GFX sensor. My second guess is that the 20-35 is going to be light years ahead in the corners of the image. Fujifilm's GF lenses are typically phenomenal from corner to corner. Just suspicions and completely unsubstantiated as I don't have the lenses on hand.

Actually the 19mm Focal length + F2.8 aperture is exactly what makes this lens attractive, if that's F4 lens I won't even care to look at it. you know for Astro, even with tracker, faster lens is ALLWAYS better. coming from FF with Astro modified A7III and A7R III + Sigma 14 F1.4, 20 F1.4, the only thing I feel it's missing in the medium format system is the fast wide angle lens for astro.

F2.8 for night and milkyway photography. Get it together 😉

@Dylan Goldby if you read the description of the lens on any photography store like B&H they highlight that the wide aperture is for night photography. That's why they didn't do F4. That's already done. It would be 35mm equivalent of F2.2. Whereas the F4 would be 3.1. That's a lot more light coming in. It's almost like the 24mm 1.7 prime lens that they are going after for fast night photography.

Well, I kind of disagree with your quote about not needing anything more than F4. I'm wanting to shoot Astrophotography with my GFX100S. So the faster the aperture the better. But since this lens is pretty soft in the corners, that's a dealbreaker for me. Yes, I could crop in some, but I want to take full advantage of the GFX100's sensor size.

Thank you for this review Dylan, excellent as usual. Do you by any chance have any thoughts on this lens' potential for astrophotography? If not, what lens would you currently suggest for astro on a GFX 100S?

Thanks for the review! You mention that a wide f2.8 aperture is not really necessary for such a wide lens, but I think it is precisely this light gathering capability that make the lens stand out vs the competition. I am considering this Laowa 19mm for astrophotography, would the sharpness be sufficiently good? I have been using the FF Laowa 15mm f2 with decent results...

That really depends on how demanding you are. My point in the video was that if a lens has a wide aperture, it needs to be useable. Personally, I wasn't overly satisfied with the wide-open performance. As you saw, there's a little softness, especially towards the sides of the frame. As to whether that would affect you, only you can really say.

Is the hood removable? How does one attach filters?

Pretty sure the hood is removable and it has a 77 mm filter thread.
