    I’m a full time professional commercial photographer and I just recently switched over from canon to Fuji. I bought the gfx 50s ii and also purchased the 23, 45, 55, 80 & 110 all at the same time. After my first shoot I definitely found I needed something in between the 23 and 45. I’m not finding much crossover in these actually. The 80 and 110 are essential in my studio and they render differently. The 110 pushed the background out harder which is awesome for head/face shots. I definitely want to add the 30 next but I did find that the 63mm would be unnecessary.

    Yes 🎉The 45 was great for me on the 50s then the 100s. I sold it then repurchased later after having the 63 for a while. 110 the bomb. 23 great when you need it but when not hemmmmm 45-100 great for work when clients are all over the place. Had and sold the 80 but loved the 110 output and fov. As you say, people need to live into lenses to truly see what works for them.

    Stumbled upon this 8 months later. Glad to see that there are other people with terminal GAS…..As mostly a landscape guy I now carry the 20-35, 45-100 and 100-200. Yes I do have some primes that I don’t use as much as I do only a little portrait work. No doubt that all the GS lenses have superior performance (and price). I have been working with the GFX system since the GFX50R appeared. I have not looked back.

      You're a man after my own heart - GAS is a real issue - I don't own any of those lenses - but super curious as to whether the 20-35 can replace my 23mm that I never use.... you know when you've got GAS really bad when you're checking the lens roadmap looking for things to get excited about!

      @@JonnyBarrett Exactly my thought about the 23mm. So far I think it can. Also next year will see T/S lenses that will likely put an additional nail in the coffin of the 23mm. I do plan to do a couple of direct comparisons. I will try to remember to let you know. BTW the 20mm end of that zoom is very useful

    • @Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy

      @@icogicog8287 I see people dumping their 30mm primes on ebay, probably because both the 20-35mm and the 30mm tilt shift is coming. Who's gonna want a fixed 30mm then? Ultra-wide zooms are so nice to get your framing correct though. It's a lot easier once you've set up the tripod to zoom, than to move it all around.

Used the 32-64 exclusively for my Haute Coutre shoot for ELLE. In my brutally sharp category. Love my nifty 50, 63mm. One of my faves! Did an ELLE cover with the 80mm and loved the rendition. The 45-100 f4 is a killer event lens. The res and stabilisation on the 100s gives you loooads of latitude.

    • @ThisIsWideAngle
      @ThisIsWideAngle 9 месяцев назад

      For events it is nice, i guess.
      But at work we need it for pixel peeping purposes (art reproduction as a wider alternative to the 120mm macro) and it is unusable because of distortion and the resolution doesn't hold up in the corners.
      Also the profile of capture one pretty much sucks.
      So we call it "the stinker"...

I do love the gf 32-64, but the 20-35 is increasingly taking over for the landscape photos I take… You should try the 20-35… what a lens! Ps… don’t get the GF macro, either get a Mamiya macro and adapt it, or get the XF 80 mm macro instead for the X-cameras… a much better true 1:1 macro lens, than the 1:0.5 of the GF 120 mm macro

    Hey Jonny, I just got a GFX 50s II w/ the kit lens. I’m thinking of adding one more lens for general street photography (stills and architecture), low light city walks, and portrait. Do you feel the GF 80 f1.7 is the best option given it’s aperture or should I lean more towards the GF 45 and use my XH-1 w/ XF35 f1.4. Thanks!

    • @JonnyBarrett
      @JonnyBarrett  2 года назад +3

      The kit lens being 35-70mm?
      Honest answer is if you've 'just got that' - use it for 2-3 months and pay attention to the focal lengths you're using & where the lens feels limited.
      The 80 is a 63mm equivalent lens - you'll likely find that restrictive for architecture/street stuff. It's a great 'people' lens - but for landscapes is neither wide or long. F1.7 is great.
      The 45mm is a 35mm equivalent - that gives you a LOT of latitudes, but again is covered in your current set up. F2.8 also great.
      They're both great lenses - but honest answer is find what works for you (that's not me being evasive...but remember, as this video proves, I suck at picking 'one lens' 😅.

    I’ve narrowed my GFX lenses to three at least until the 20-35 comes out. The 30, the 45, the 100-200 are my go to lenses for my 50r and 100s. I also have my old Minolta 58mm 1,4 that I use on my 50r for the most part. I’m headed to The Yukon and Alaskas Arctic Circle for two months and I’ll be packing the above plus my Fuji X cameras and long lenses for wildlife. I’m REALLY hoping the 20-35 hits the market before I leave.

    • @JonnyBarrett
      @JonnyBarrett  2 года назад +2

      Jorge - nice kit!
      Having been to Alaska with my GFX - I took the 23mm and it was almost too wide - you're likely a better photographer than me, but that plain is ENORMOUS in an expanse like alaska. The zooms were much more useful, but wildlife and the GFX is tricky, as you really need something 300mm+ and it just doesn't exist (except on X series which you're smart to cover)
      THAT SAID - alaska was one of the greatest trips of my life. You could go with a polariod and have a blast - ENJOY IT - you're bringing the ferrari of kit - post your IG - I' d like to see the photos!

    Ordered the Zchwaa 45mm yesterday, used on ebay. Let someone else take the depreciation hit. Probably going to pick up the 80mm or 110mm, but the Used prices in Japan went up this month. (The mecca of used camera lenses) I'm guessing because their rebates there have expired, so the used market adjusts to suit. There was a real nice deal on an 80mm about a week ago I missed out on. Maybe I'll just do that two lens prime kit you suggest, and keep my 35-70mm for hiking and landscapes. Apparently at f/8 and beyond, you can't tell the difference except that it's lighter. We'll see.

    even though i share the dumb gene with you.. because I too have way too many lenses that I sort of don't need... i think not owning the 110 f2 should be declared a crime if you have a GFX 100. sell it! get a gfx50 and 110! there is no excuse !
    also, people should try the smaller tube for macro. it's better. in many ways it's like with teleconverters, the 1.4 is great so the 2x should be great too!! never is.. so people get the 18 not the 45!

    I shoot weddings and with the announcement of Hass flippy screen and 100MPX I just might trade the GFX100's in for 2 of those - however - I might wait to see what they do with the 907x - I had one of those too along with the X1Dii buuuut - 100mpx - its just where I want to be after the glorious RZ met its processor match and then some - we must have shot 100+ weddings over the years - I go for quality of image every time - now we have that - but the GFX is slow and stupidly heavy for a 35mm inspired camera- the specs on the X2D look insane - INSANE I tell you - however - with that said there is seriously little to compare to a full length bridal portrait shot from ground level on a jaunty angle with a GF110mm

      Curious - how do you feel about this now that it's come out? From my perspective, the GFX still looks like the better choice. Agree on weight/speed - I don't think the hassy solves that though. Speed is starting to nag at me though.

      I am also looking into the X2D now. I rented the X1DII a while ago with the 45P/4.0 and it was amazing for documenting a wedding day. The ergonomics are better (the grip) and the software experience (app data transfer) is way more stable and did not fail me once. That said: I did miss the joystick a little for focus point selection but after a while you get used to the screen touchpad. It gets more difficult when you use the camera in certain vertical angles though and it will force you to focus and recompose. Also, using the Hassy with gloves will be less nice than the GFX. But then…. Colors in the Hassy are lovely as well - and I started to like the Phocus app. Their lenses are indeed smaller and lighter than Fujis. But there is just one zoom. So, if you live the look and feel of the camera then the Hassy is a clear choice. If you need a flexible tool and cost is also part of the deal, the Fuji cannot be beat. It has eye AF as well and shoots video. There you have it 😅😂
