I stumbled across your channel today by looking for Fujifilm TCL reviews as I am considering one. I really like your presentation in these videos and find this one particularly informative and inspiring! Thank you for sharing, subscribed for more!
Great stuff mate!!! Love how you go through the whole approach!
Cheers, brother. That's the important bit, right?
Incredibly insightful. Commenting for the algorithm and to congratulate you on your fantastic work and ability to tell stories
Great work, what an inspiring video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great work and well explained. Thanks a lot.
Thanks for watching, Natalino!
Fantastic as always, mate. Really enjoyed this one.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for stopping by, as always.
@@DylanGoldbyPhotographer Always, mate.
Great portrait series!!!
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing 🙏
Gorgeous work Dylan
Thank you!
Nice! Great shots. Love my godox flashes have the ad600's and they just work and they are a total work horse. Just don't loose any screws etc as Godox is Fxing hopeless. The best thing in My Kit is a bit of white Corflute ( not sure of spelling ) Officeworks 10 bucks You can reflect flash from in front or behind or wherever and adjust an angle and intensity very quickly. using one light they are always a lower intensity used a s a fill and so much cheaper than a reflector.
Godox lights are good value, for sure. When it comes to modifying them on trips like this that involve multiple flights, trains, motorcycles, and hiking just to get to a location, there are very few reflectors or modifiers that are worth taking. It would be so much easier if I could bring everyone to a studio. Ha!
Always looking forward to seeing which metal band shirt you’ll be wearing :D Just in case you might like it, Seven Spires just released their new album and I’ve been listening to it non-stop for a week. It is superb.
Ah, yes. Thank you for making this video as well! I’ve always found it most difficult to just approach strangers and talk to them (being the shy Finn that I am). I feel like I am getting better at it and being a lot less self-conscious, which I weirdly enough attribute to practicing meditation and as a result not having as many thoughts of ”gee, I wonder what people are thinking of me” going on in my head in general.
Ha! I'll be sure to throw in a couple of Finnish bands for you! Some great music flowing out of Finland recently. Thanks for the recommendation of Seven Spires, looking forward to giving it a full run. There's been so much prog playing in this house I need a break! ha.
That's the biggest thing you really need to get past. Nobody has a passing thought for anyone else in this world, so just approach and see how it goes. For this project, I really need translation and local knowledge, so I've been able to pass that off to another person, thankfully! It's hard, but in the end, the worst thing that can happen is that someone says "no".
@@DylanGoldbyPhotographer Finland definitely has a good metal scene going :-) My favorite at the moment is definitely Swallow the Sun, which I managed to see live before Covid and was blown away. Crimfall is another favorite but I think the band has split apart...
Now that I think of it, I feel it easier to approach and take photographs of strangers outside Finland. I don't know why. Maybe it's more acceptable or expected of "tourists" or there's something deeper going on with the connection between language and thinking.
In Finland I would naturally speak Finnish and we tend to be somewhat reserved when meeting new people. Whereas when I speak English the whole mentality is already much more outgoing and amicable. It's hard to put into words, but there is a difference, I think.
thanks for sharing! Although I don't and never use flash before but it's nice to see how it can help to perfect your shots for certain situation.
Flash is not for every photographer or every situation, but it can be a really useful tool at times. I've really enjoyed working with it for this project, but I'm also looking forward to traveling with a small kit again. Heck, I'm looking forward to traveling again. haha.
@@DylanGoldbyPhotographer Soon! I am waiting to travel with my camera
Thanks, very helpful that you break down your whole thought process as you do here. Maybe consider goving us a bit more time to really look at your photographs.
Thanks for watching, Karsten, and thanks for the suggestion. For now, you can always pause the video if you wish to examine the photographs more closely.
Great work as always.. have you tried velvet fabric? it soaks in all the light with little to no reflection. May not be the look you're going for with already great work but just an option.
I have. It gets dirty very easily. Honestly, I just use whatever I can buy at a local market when I arrive.
Hi Dylan can you please provide the link to fujilove that you mentioned at the end of your video? I couldn’t find it. Thank you so much for this absolutely fantastic video taking us through your process of photographing these amazing portraits.
Argh, my bad. I thought I'd added it to the description. Here we are: fujilove.com/fujilove-ebook-flash-fujifilm/

HELLO .. a question .. what do you think about the black and white photos with the 50 r.?-- is it better to turn them from color to white and engro with the lightromm ..? or take direct with the filter that comes with the gtx50r? If so, what filters do you use?
Hi Walter, that really depends on your goals. I don't use the black and white film simulations when it comes to post-production. If you'd rather just shoot jpegs, I can't see why you couldn't just use them, though!
you videos are so inspiring the your work is outstanding! from your experience which do you like better. the 50R or 50S?
Thanks, Tom! I much preferred the 50R. It sat in my hands better and fit in my bags a lot better. I'm currently using the 100S, which I'd say is ergonomically one of the best cameras I've used to date. Not quite a Nikon D750, but getting there.
@@DylanGoldbyPhotographer gotcha! Im actually struggling to decide between a used 50s or new 50s2 (my first medium format)
Obviously price plays a role here :) the difference is pretty much a good manual/native gfx lens
