first really rock and heavy at times I saw was Resurrection (Rez) Band and loved their stuff

Petra is great!! love the reaction. Hope you can do more Petra. I have seen Petra live about a dozen times and it is always a great show. They are currently touring on the 50th anniversary tour. Petra has a wide variety of styles from the years they played. My first album I owned was "On Fire" and is one of Petra's heavier albums along with "Jekyll & Hyde". Songs I would recommend by Petra are: "All about who you know", "Mine Field", Beyond Belief", "Hit you where you live", "Counsel of the Holy", "This means war", "Midnight oil", "Armed and dangerous", "Jekyll & Hyde", "Test of time", "Woulda Should Coulda". These listed are heavier songs. Many more amazing tunes with different styles are like: Graverobber, Creed, Sleeping Giant, More Power to ya, Backsliding blues, God gave rock and roll to you, Clean, Rose colored stain glass windows, No doubt, Praise ye the lord. and I could go on and on so many great tunes.
Also hope you can check out Bands X-sinner, Randy Rose (Rose), and Crashdog.

Midnight Oil is a great jam. It has ALL the ingredients for a good rock song. Definitely one of my many favorites from Petra.

Wow, what memories. Petra was huge when I was in college. A couple friends and I became groupies and followed them from venue to venue. Amazing godly men. I have an album that they did, they put a message in the album that if you spun it backwards they say "what are you looking for the devil for when you oughta be looking for the Lord?" There were a few secular bands in the early 80's that had backwards messages and it went around that they were a worship to the devil. God bless Petra 💜

Check out the song "Right Place", from Petra's "No Doubt" album (released in 1995).
I play this song in my imaginary Sturgis playlist lol with Stryper, Darrell Mansfield Band, Red Sea, X-Sinner, Resurrection Band, Trouble, Modest Attraction…. etc.
Another amazing band (still doing music today) is Stryper. "To Hell with the Devil" is one of their best original songs. They had several crossover hits in the 80s.

O Mannnn so you should check out their Jekyll and Hyde song. now that's some hard licks. They have so much through the years that they have given to the music world. I remember going to the Christian bookstore in 93 and seeing these guys there. and 6 hour later right side watching them person this song. Thanks for the reaction to this cos it brings back memories.

Lyrically Petra had some of the strongest words in a Christian song. There was no confusion of what they were talking about. They didn't have vague lyrics that could be easily confused songs about life in general or a relationship with the opposite sex.
The song CREED....that is ALL!!!
The first reaction song should be the legendary song beyond belief, seen and not heard, minefield, hit you where you live, dance and destiny plus this means war.
If you liked that style of rock, another to check out is Liaison. "Urgency" is a good track.

Ok, before you dive into the Petra catalog there are some important things you need to know about them so you don't make any haste decisions like you did on the first reaction. Understand that Petra was a groundbreaking group. They were among the first Christian artists who played rock and roll. They were scorned at and heavily criticized for it. They received very little support from their peers. Rock and roll did not belong in the church is what they were told. Devil's music. Let's skip the debate on that and focus on what your complaint was about on the first reaction. The audio production was not up to standards according to you. With Petra not getting the full support from the record label they were signed with meant they were working with second and third rate equipment and sound production for their videos. Not their fault. As the Christian market opened their mind to Petra's style of music so did their buget. So what I'm saying is when you explore the works of Petra you'll find some of the earlier videos will not be as polished as the later ones. It has nothing to do with their abilities or talent. You would be better off reacting to their studio recordings on their late seventies and early eighties stuff. Now also you need to know there was two distinct chapters in their history. The first is with lead vocalist Greg Volz. He was with them till 1985. The second was with lead vocalist John Schlitt. He was with them till early 2000's. Both chapters are filled with great music but they differ in styles with the Schlitt years being a harder rock sound. Here's my suggestions starting with the Greg Volz era. Angel of Light, More Power to Ya, Judas Kiss, Rose Colored Stained Glass Windows, Adoni and God Gave Rock and Roll to You. Greg rejoined the Group around 2011 and did a 25 year anniversary tour with them. They have a concert video from that tour called Classic Petra. You can get quality videos from this. About anything from the John Schlitt years is very good. My list from this era are. Creed, Beyond Belief, Seen and Not Heard, Destiny, Dance, and Sight Unseen. Please know that the songs I listed are just a small portion of their catalog and doesn't imply they're the best. That all depends on personal preferences.

Get the stuff by called John slit his name not the band that’s most of his welder stuff. I guess the last year’s nothing earlier or after this means war after that album nothing else before was that that was the first loud album.
