2vintage you should rebuild this bike to its original glory (stock plastics, engine and frame color, ect.)
man so glad to have found this channel its just so honest no clickbait just raw dirt bike content
There is scratches in the cylinder on the exhaust side... probably aluminum from the piston. Do not hone the cylinder, it's plated! Use maratic acid and red scotbrite pad to remove and deglaze cylinder bore. Then wash with plenty of soap and water. Clean power valve. You may have a warped cylinder head that's why coolant was leaking by head gasket. Sand cylinder head on flat surface. Clean carb, Check jets in carburetor and put back to stock jetting. Pull flywheel and clean ignition with contact cleaner and check crank seal, you may want to replace the seal. If it's dirty in there it can cause weak spark. I had a few of these bikes over the years, good bikes.
Thanks for the reply!
How can you tell if it’s plated?
@@UberNovaYes if a magnet sticks or not
@@UberNovaYes it's a honda power port. "hpp" there all plated
@@jakejames1977 THey are all plated from the factory but you can get a steel liner put in it to replace the plated one
Chuck I was expecting to see you with red hair this time and maybe a Honda logo carved into your scalp! Don't get dull on us!
That is what his boyfriend is also saying...
Incorrect jetting for the aftermarket pipe that was on it...
I enjoy your videos because you don't have a ton of fancy tools and you work out in the driveway just like me. The 80's and 90's era stuff is my favorite. Keep up the good work, I've learned a lot from you.
Good thing u own this bike now, I've seen this a hundred times, people buy aftermarket pipes and dont rejet the carb which leads to poor/over combustion constant over heat to piston and spark plug, the Mark's on the head is probably from a cheap spark plug that broke, keep up the good work.
Another great packed video as usual.....I would not know where to start.Fantastic, looking forward to seeing you get this machine fired up again !
Another great videos lads 👍🏻👍🏻I love how your just flying round the bikes now knowing what to do next instead of finding out , and shows your getting better and better can't wait to see it run 👍🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Out of interest do you guys have day jobs or are you's doing this full time ?? Because you'd have a lot of stock ✌🏻
That’s what happens on my kx100 but the power valve broke and ate up one side of the piston and made the rings to the same as yours. That Cr is gonna be awesome! Good job
If coolant was on the plug, a blown or wrongly installed head gasket is main reason it wont begin to fire..A sticky ring doesnt let coolant into cylinder
The piston overheated by the exhaust bridge causing the piston ring to get stuck due to the lack of oiling holes on the piston, when you get an after market piston you usually have to drill those 2 small holes on the piston where it sits behind that exhaust bridge so when the piston goes up the oil gas mix from the crank case can cool the exhaust bridge on the cylinder so it doesn't over heat the piston ring land causing your exact problem, whoever re built the engine before you did not drill those holes causing that failure
The wiesco piston instructions on the kit you want to get will have those instructions in the piston box on a green piece of paper on how to properly drill those holes so you don't damage the piston
Interesting tip!
Wait a minute you are supposed to read the instructions? No wonder my model cars looked more like abstracts on wheels when I was a kid! lol But seriously very good tip Bryan!
As always great job joe.
Good work man looking forward to seeing it with a new piston👍
Glad it was a easy fix great video can't wait for part 3
Nice video
👍 keep up the good work
hey man nice vid I was just wondering if sometime in the future you could show how to diagnose dirtbike electronics
Hey dude good videos, have learned a lot from them. I have a 1994 Honda cr125r 2 stroke. What spark plug do you recommend?
Smart move tearing it down or could have done further damage trying to run it in that condition! Pick up a set of dental picks to remove circlips. The main question is what caused the engine failure? Jetting off? Improper break in? Overheat condition? Timing off? Need to figure this out to prevent next engine failure!
Yeah exactly I have been wondering what could have caused it. Maybe water pump failure? It definitely was overheating if the ring is welded to the piston. I wonder if jetting is off. I will check and see.
@@2vintage i think its maybe too lean or waterpump, ofc it can be just like nothing wasn't wrong but it still happened, maybe manufacturin fail btw im from finland and my english is not that good.......
More than likely improper warmup procedure and rapid expansion from the Wiseco Forged piston but I would still check timing jetting and cooling system.
My suspicion is still someone accidentally or intentionally ran straight gas in that motor. I did notice the head had a few smacks delivered by the piston, it might have favoured one side of the cylinder wall in my opinion, it could be the crank wasn't balanced properly because of the damage to the motor which by the way you lucked out on. in my opinion that crank shouldn't have any play in it, should be tight all around I only suggest that because looks like the piston probably bucked a few times...just to be on the safe side you should replace the crank and the head just so you won't end up with a blown motor again. It's obvious what that piston was saying hey lol after all that every other part behind it takes a shit. Why not go deeper into it?
@Twisted-X H I've had a few that were run with no premix and they were completely destroyed with the piston crown and head surfaces cratered pretty bad. With no damage showing on that piston I would say the two Knicks in the head are from previous failure.
I got a 1988 cr250r for $900. It is mechanically mint. And is fast as hell. Not sure if that was a good deal but it sure seems like one.
I always weld up my rings when installing a new piston!!😂
What is the best way to remove that nut in power valve cover area next to the governor? I keep mangling the nut trying to get it off there.
Seeing cold seizure “ signs of not warming up or issues with cooling system . Pressure check radiators for sure and head for warp . I’ve been on this planet CR “ before . Find the cause if ya can to prevent another similar failure
brian crull i was going to say the same thing although he should check that side where it welded itself together if the ports arnt clear where the coolant can run through it can get hot, i dont think it would be a fuel issue like he said
For sure cold seized same thing happend to my buddy's sled and it melted piston to the cylinder but got it out with acid
The previous owner did a first class spray job on that 🤣🤣🤣
I've seen a lot worse and I really like it when they spray paint everything including the dirt and grime and then finish it up with a duct tape seat cover.....PERFECT!
These 125s are wicked for what they are!!! I owned one. Loved it!!! Small n alot of ripp for a 125!
Im a big fan keap up the grind
You should have put a radiator pressure check gauge on it find out where the leaks were before you start tearing it apart I told you this about a year-and-a-half ago. By 1 before you before you take shit apart.
Buy a ohm meter to find out if you coil or stator is bad to
You should so a plug chop once you rebuild it because if it was lean, then you will blow the new top end too.
That bike is sweet keep it going broo
Look up Wrench Rabbit to see if they offer a kit for that year bike. You can get gaskets and a top end kit for a good deal n you wouldnt have to wait for seperate orders to come in. Everything would come in at once.
Can you remove the cylinder for new piston and ring on the 1988 cr 125??…
Looks like it will hit the frame up front..
That’s a nice bike 🏍
Like I said last video, invest a couple hundred bucks and she'll be up and running...good guess on my part lol. Great job. I dont know the ins and outs, that's your job haha.
This young lad will know all the fixes by the time he's 30,he'll be the go to guy who helps everyone get parts and tell them what parts always fail on what bikes, experience is key and he flips a lot of classics/the best fun crossers /trail /dirt bikes 👍 need more MUGEN POWER early 80s ROCKET SHIPS, Johnny O mara's cr125 was kicking out over 35hp when he kicked ass in Europe beating 500's,he was cornering way faster as it didn't weigh snot compared to the big 500's of Jobe and Thorpe
Nice work on the bike, you might want to check the water pump, they put a plastic gear in there,it's going to be nice bike..
Yes I'm checking water pump and clutch next video!
Great bike, the old ones run like work horses 💪
Great video
Wish I could found a deal like you did on this 90 cr 125
I traded a compound bow for one
Could u send or tell me the link u bought the top end kit for the cr125 please
Good tip ,even if the rings are stuck,,blow the rad out with a airline,,that is a nice bike,,
Is there no machine shops in Wisconsin?
My 96 cr250 wheelies before it comes on pipe then it takes off really fast. Original piston rings front tire.
Bike overheated. That happened to my 96 cr125. Check the water pump because mine failed. They use a shitty plastic gear for it
He can learn alot from this comment section
i would definitely buy this bike off of you when ur done
CAN SUM1 PLEASEEEEEE TELL ME WHAT THE GAS TO AIR RATIO IS TO MY 2008 kx250f 4 stroke
Use a ring spanner for head nuts other wise youll strip using a socket like that
yeaaa new bansheee!!!
Barrel and piston is toast mate lol
I just got a cr 125 r and it needs a new piston I ordered the parts and I think I got the wrong piston the old piston has 1 ring but the one I ordered has 2 its either a Performance piston or its wrong it will be here tomorrow or next day but I have never worked on one or anything like this seems pretty simple but I want it right
Good looking bike for year and price .. get it done bies
I have a 2002 cr 125 ran when I got it it started to have hard start so I rebuilt the top end it started first try then it will not start
What’s the brand for the front fender?
Where you at the community garage soooo many ppl working on stuff😳
a new chrome exhaust and a polish and she will be mint
Wich bike should i buy kx85(kx80) honda cr85
Honda crf 150
same problem on my 1998 cr125 you need to make a cilinder had flat and it's good... btw powervalves need to be close
That bike is sick I had a 94
Should paint the frame an make engine normal colour
The engine is a "normal" color....
I told you guys the piston ring was stuck, i had the same problem!
Very nice bike 👌
Restore it paint the frame back to the original red and get the correct graphics for that year
Anyone know clutch cable size 2001 kx125?
Put the frontbrake line on the otherside of the fork, that way it cannot break.
Good idea to buy a proper set of hose removal forceps instead of a screwdriver.
That would perfect give away bike make someone very happy😂
Power valve stuck open would not keep it from running.
How do you get these so cheap
Polyish the cylinder and new piston .. rings do that mostly after holding throttle position wide open .. you'll get it done bies . #capebreton
Dude, that same fucking ringtone is in every single video of yours from every year hahahaha
That's an interesting tool to take the wrist pin clips out with whatever works
Haha yeah
It's like playing operation but for adults where do I get a pair?
@@wd-40everything65 instead of a buzz the clip goes across the driveway or into the bottom end
And that's when the red light lights up!
Yes part 2,,time to watch sumin that’s not on the shit tv in uk,thanks
I have 30 compression on a new top end lol I got a kx100
No more girlfriend I see... hahahahaha
Nope she's my fiance now lol
2vintage damn son, wishing you a happy marriage man!
That bike looks exactly like mine
Top speed run?
From Argentina. 😊❤
What web site did u find piston kit on have 84 yz 125
I found it on ebay.
That's why you rering your two strokes yearly
Coolant leaked in when you loosened the head
Always change sprockets with chain
Don't check up and down with 2 fingers check with hand
Is anyone actually going to buy his merch
Think the head dents are detonation.
I still dont understand y people spay paint there engines
Paint exhaust flat black like stock!!!!
That cylinder has an iron sleeve pressed in it
16:59 what happened to your voice 😂😂😂
Dude if u can order parts off of Rocky Mountain piston and gasket would prob be cheaper
They didn't have an oversize piston
Are you going to keep it for a collection like your there bikes
Idk yet
Ok
I have a kdx 50 and just put a new carb on and it will only run on choke it dies immediately if you take it of choke any suggestions? Thank you.
Jetted wrong.Not getting enough gas.
2vintage its leaking out of the flow hose bad
2vintage that’s why I got a new carb because the float on the other one was broke and I guess that’s not the problem
Is it a brand new carb and is it a Chinese copy
@@landong2120 Turn the air screw all the way in until it seats lightly...then turn it out two turns, thus is a normal staring point. Start the bike with the choke on...allow it to warm up a little then turn the choke down to half...and adjust your idle screw to what seems like a normal speed. Turn the choke off...if the bike starts to die, crank up the idle screw a bit, if it is too fast turn it back down, then turn the choke back off...continue this until the bike stays running with the choke off. Then go back to the air screw and adjust it up and down to figure out where the bike runs best. Then readjust the idle screw and give the bike a rip...report back to us the results.
Love the CR brotha 👍 , Check out My Kawasaki KDX Mystery, It was abandoned, I rescued it.. New project. I'm going to revive it, and it will be braapin soon enough 😂
Plz check the piston wall clearance. This happen to my gas gas. That means the clearance of the piston to the cylinder wall was to tight. Plz listen. I paid double the money cause I didn’t check the clearance. And gas gas parts aren’t cheap.
Yessir been there an done it listen to him
Idiots
David Davis yes Ik. So now 2vintage learns from my dumbass.
Check the oil for milk
Why
@@noutvaneerd9976 to see if coolant is mixing with the oil
@@2vintage is it to check the water pump seal
@@noutvaneerd9976 yeah that would mean water pump seal is bad
@@2vintage thanks mate🔥
It’s a Gudgeon pin, not wrist pin 👍
awesome man
I just was about to buy that bike but the guy must have sold it to you a hour later
If you ever think about selling that bike lmk
Turbo Kawasaki 650 go-kart build do it Turbo
👍👍👍👍
Rings stuck ismy guess,,
Lol
