clearly my childhood fantasy that I could use my DS as a supercomputer wasn't as far off as it seemed
Depending on your definition of “super,” of course.
for a 1960s super computer perspective yeah it's a super computer, you can even send people to the moon with that kind of power
@@serabc98you should be able to do it multiple times at once lol. for instance a 2014 smartphone could do the moon mission like 12 times at once. and that is the era of dual or quad core chips that are weak af compared to your phone now.
the ds is like a 1995 desktop pc or a 1980 super computer the ds had 3d acceleration and 18 bit color you know how advanced that is photorealistic graphics over 4 million bytes of ram
It can run linux
Next thing you know they're gonna build a time machine with the DS.
cant wait
wonder if it'll be native or emulated
might be native emulating might be too slow
real
3rd reply lollllll true tho
Pretty neat to see what's actually running on old DS hardware.
Having the entire screen at full speed would be cooler but it is what it is.
He can. He's just using a 16-year-old virgin. There are updated versions of this from 2022-2021 2020 that he could have downloaded and used but instead he used one that was 16 years old
The NDS is INSANELY slow so it is actually quite impressive that it can do all that even at remotely usable speeds
@@Alpine_flo92002wonder how much better a DSi optimized version would be?
@@EvilTurkeySlices The DSI has way more memory and a much faster CPU and I think it actually has two CPU cores. Would be MUCH faster
Go ahead and make those changes then 😂
This needs to be run on the white NDS, which always reminded me the classic Macbook.
Yes, beautiful handheld
More like the classic iBook, that was the true old school white Mac laptop
System 7 only runs on Motorola 68xxx Apple Powerbooks that were dark grey. Intel Macbooks need an emulator to use System 7, and PowerPC PowerBooks (and IBooks) can only use System 9.
So using system 7 on a black DS is more legit.
Hello world.
That wallpaper is blissful.
Bliss? Wallpaper?
Yes modern day bliss windows XP bliss Micheal mjd has a documentary about how XP got bliss.
One of my childhood memories in the early 90s was visiting my mom at work and using her Mac 128k during her lunch break to play Brickle (Breakout clone) and Wheel of Fortune. Those lo-fi sound effects are ingrained in my mind for life. XD
Neat, now you just need to get a printer and word processor running and the triangle of usefulness will be complete for the Nintendo DS.
If only the DS had a printer.
@@repoversemedium the game boy color had a printer but printers were more cool in the 90s but not in the 2000s
Finally! I can develop iOS apps on hardware I own!
Can’t buy a mac for XCode 🙂
Man that was awesome I really enjoyed it. I liked the donkey Kong gag and the ending was great good for you dude
BRAND NEW VIDEO LETS GOO!!!
the first one i watched was running windows 1.0 apps on windows 10.
i cant believe that was six years ago.
Oh man, I gotta try this as soon as I can, I love the DS!
Me too
I love the DS as well!
@@DecisiveRebel22Same, oh look a little kitty girl!
Same! Who doesn't!
2Ds is the real G for me bro, but ds is the father so gotta respect the drip bro 💯🔥🗣
Babe wake up, MJD just uploaded…
Ahh yes…
*the Nintendo DSiMac*
ah yes, the DSMac!
DSPlus
Mactendo DS
That basically turned the DS into a mini Macintosh laptop. I didn't care about the games on the DS, I just wanted to do this back in the day.
I love how this channel is becoming more and more unpredictable 😆
I remember spending weeks hunting down windows binaries to extract the images for the Macs to run this on my DS. Thrilled this isn’t forgotten
Thanks for covering this! Used it before, it's a cool piece of software. Gamebrew is full of surprising ports and projects. (Trogdor the Burninator on GBA goes crazy)
Wild projects, love it!
And today we have the Aya Neo Flip DS, which resembles a DS, but runs Windows, with a Ryzen 7 7840U APU that can run the latest AAA games while using the bottom touch screen for multitasking.
14:38 Fun fact: That “lovely, lovely, arrow key layout” is present on the 70s and 80s era computer keyboards. As you can imagine, it is painful to use for movement.
love the classic mac videos
daamn clean segway to the outro
I love the DS as well, and I still use it today for games and many things! So glad you love it too!
I hope those capable put more work into MacOS on Wii. If it was easy to install and worked smoothly, that would be a blessing for those who wish to relive the classic Mac era, with full CD ROM support, and component video out for a clean picture on a CRT. The 90s Mac capacitors are not holding up well so original hardware is becoming scarce. Personally my experience with web emulators or using virtual machines and emulators on M1 Mac, I encounter too much input delay with the mouse cursor. So using the newest available and mass produced PowerPC devices would be a dream come true.
I second this so much! Also, couldn't the Wii U also be used for the same purpose? Considering it's also a PowerPC system (a beefed up Wii, after all)? It even has a Radeon GPU (plus, HDMI out!), and ATI graphics cards were no strangers to classic Macs... I've been using emulators (Basilisk/SheepShaver/QEMU), but as you've said, it's not the same as running natively.
Having and old Wii or Wii U as a Macintosh machine would really address the issues you mention, hopefully someone can make it happen!
I thought someone did that before?
also i'm pretty sure it would be possible if it wasnt done before.
@@So1 It's made, it just isn't very useable, that's why I said I wish there was someone capable that could put more work into it. It is very difficult for even a high level tinkerer to setup and when you do finally get it setup, it has tons of issues running. MJD has a video of it.
Every video with MJD doing silly stuff with a DS is a good video
yuss
This background, is Bliss...
Also very cool video, i'm gonna put Mac on my DS just for Fun.
This is awesome!
Good video mjd❤
From my own memories of using a Mac Classic as a youth this certainly isn't any slower! Pretty impressive to see it running on a DS.
Oh hey, I had the red and black DS back in the day. Nice throwback.
dang thats really cool
After glancing at your channel after being recommended this video... I don't understand RUclips's algorithm whatsoever.
First of all, I already love your channel. You have a very similar kind of mood to LGR's videos set, both in premise and presentation. That's not a bad thing whatsoever, and don't mistake me saying it's anything other than perfect as it is. With how vast the world of old bizarre tech, software, homebrew is... we need more people talking about it because no one person can cover all the bases.
THEN I learned that you've been doing this for a DECADE. I've been watching LGR about that long, where the hell have these videos been in my recommended section when I would binge watch LGR, RUclips?! Based on titles alone, any number of your videos would have been up my alley, yet this was the first time I've seen your channel. 😖Like I said, I don't understand RUclips's algorithm.
I'm glad RUclips showed me your work, you've given me quite a backlog of intriguing videos to go through! 😁👍
Cool. Thank you very much!
I really like when you make Mac videos :D
FINALLY A NEW VIDEO
When I was younger I got mac working on a psp, mac os 8 through basilisk, ran surprisingly well despite being emulated
Thats what i like to see!
love the macintosh plus vaporwave reference 😂❤
came here to say this
I’ve been wanting a DS for a while and now I think I need to get one asap. 😮😮
When Michael or 8bitguy upload, the day immediately becomes a great day. Thanks for the upload.
I agree
The last update was in 2008. To put that in perspective, the first gen iPod touch only just came out.
EMaculation is probably the best computer based punny innuendo I've ever heard
If they had introduced the Macintosh in 1984 with that piece of art, we all would still be using only command lines.
Update: To the few people who are offended by my comment, it is just a joke. The only person who could legitimately be offended would be MJD since it was a joke about his artwork.
I did not argue anything else from that comment. So any arguments you would make are your own straw man arguments. If you cannot take the joke, then that is on you. Lighten up.
Update 2: I just got trolled by
alex13902 16 hours ago
thesidneychan 2 hours ago (edited)
Very strange to get trolled twice in succession like that. The most recent reply before those two was 2 months ago, shortly after I made my top-level post. Trolls are so stupid.
Which I would not mind, I actually like command-line stuff, it’s very interesting. Helps you interact with your computer on a deeper level.
@@miss-astronomikal-mcmxcvii I use the bash command shell in Linux all the time. It is so much easier to perform the same or similar operations on multiple files via for or while loops on the command line than mouse clicking through the GUI. Even doing something like changing file permissions on a single file is much more straightforward from the command line.
@@georgeh6856 the idea of command line interface being outdated is kind of wrong, I am not sure why so much people keep bringing it up
It’s just an alternative way that works better or worse in some cases
There are times where gui/tui is better, some times when cli is better, you just mix them to your liking
@@PAPERMAsster
1. My comment was a joke. Lighten up.
2. I never disparaged the command line. My comment was specifically, "using ONLY command lines" (ONLY in caps for emphasis). Your argument is with someone else or with a straw man you created, not with me. The joke I made was that the GUI would not have caught on if his artwork had been displayed. That's it. I'm sorry that offended you so very much.
3. Someone else replied about the usefulness of the command line. My response to him, which is directly before your reply and which I think is safe to assume you did not read is: "astronomikal-mcmxcvii I use the bash command shell in Linux all the time. It is so much easier to perform the same or similar operations on multiple files via for or while loops on the command line than mouse clicking through the GUI. Even doing something like changing file permissions on a single file is much more straightforward from the command line."
Again, please do not create straw men and then use that to argue against me. It was just a joke. I did not disparage the command line in any way. Lighten up.
@@georgeh6856that comment didn't seem like he took offense - seems more like he was thinking out loud about the generalisations they've seen elsewhere, which your comment addresses humorously. So it's not necessarily a personal jab against you. The "you" in his comment seemed general, not specifically you personally.
Now to find the oldest mac you can emulate a DS on.
I love this
That's impressive
this was my first experience with Classic MacOS. Either that or the PSP version of MiniVmac
How about a video exploring the evolution of Microsoft Paint throughout different Windows versions? Michael MJD could dive into the changes in features, design, and overall user experience over the years.
awesome!
Brilliant! I love macOS
Legend
You are best in PC's tool❤
Where did you find the .dsk files? I can't find them anywhere.
I was wondering where you got your pc wallpaper from and where to get it, thanks.
6:40 I just got Black Cat PTSD.
hi! nice video. i tried doing what you just did but the link in the description gives me errors (maybe because i'm not in the us). is there any other way to download the files i need?
Love the DS content.
Now let's see it run Kid Pix, the Living Books, the Junior Field Trips, and the Thinking Things Collections through Mac OS.
Your desktop background is the modern version of bliss. Thats hilarious.
This is crazy you installing Mac OS on the wii now the Nintendo ds wow
I don't know if that was ever asked before but did you upload the bliss photo somewhere? I always found that photo with the vineyards really beautiful but couldn't find it anywhere, only found the original Bliss or the 3D render nightmare made by Microsoft
Can anybody point me in the direction of the required files needed for the R4 Revolution card?
MacOS on a DS and its not an "everything went wrong" video?
If you don’t mind me asking, how would I do this on a 2ds? (Or 3ds)
I wonder what would be the minimum requirements for runing the Mac emulator in the cheapest device posible either portable or the 5 dollars pc
Mini vMac works well on Android too. Some games are pretty playable.
As for System 7.5, it boots but runs sloooow on real compact Mac hardware. The latest usable version is likely to be 7.0.1, which is the sweet spot on a 68k Classic II.
I wonder if this would work well on my dsi. I'm going to try this later
Is OS X on the Wii possible? Specifically the early versions like 10.0 or 10.2..
you need to calibrate the bottom screen digitizer. it can be done in the default OS menu before entering a game on the DS, but I'm not sure that calibration is caried over into Mac OS
New lightning!!! ⚡
I have an R4 Card and an expansion pak laying around. May as well try it out.
im watching you through emulation on a asus rog ally through a android emulator man this little pc is a beast
This would be so cool to run Cosmic Osmo or something! Might have to dig up my R4
so cool
hey, where can I get that Bliss wallpaper?
Cool!
Where did you find the dsk files?
clutch Michael
Obviously, when you do Mac-related ideas you become Mac-hael MJD.
woah, that's crazy
I notice the small hinge is cracked on that Crimson and Black DS Lite, I don't know what it is about that color but it seems like every single one of those in that color the hinge is broke.
Do you have to have an r4 cartridge or can you just use a microSD card homebrewed
r4/r4i is necessary to get this on the ds phat and ds lite. you can simply mod any dsi or 3ds model to get this.
@@pmcthepro ok because I have a 3ds thanks
WAIT I WANT THIS
This is the ideal way to play System's Twilight
surprising!
It’s a Time Machine!❤
where did you download the .dsk file?
There is a touch window for old macs by edmark it would go over the crt
For people with a 3DS there's Mini vMac 3DS
Is it possible to speed up the system to full speed?
Wow I actually own a Macintosh plus. This is so odd to me 😂
I don't think the "hitbox" is off on the bottom screen, it's probably the DS's touchscreen that's old and the accuracy is all over the place.
remember during the 2020 debates when Michael pence has that fly crawling around on his head? LOL!
Been trying to get this running on my N3DS with TwilightMenu, but it seems like this was only made to run on a few specific flashcarts. 😢
03:03 (URL) "drunkencoders" 🤣
I can relate to that 😜
There’s also a Mac emulator for the 3DS!
I’m just gonna say there’s a 3ds version of this as well
You should try recalibrating your DS touch screen! But also it is rather imprecise
I still need my DS… I liked you.
FINALLY
