You're the Bob Ross of auto body work. Love it. 🎉
My Bob Ross vid will be out soon😁😁
I work at a collision repair/body shop. It's all about speed there. I would love to find a restoration shop where I could be the perfectionist that I am without getting told to hurry up. I'm not the best at anything. But i love to challenge myself. And most importantly. I don't like modern vehicles. I love classic cars. I would rather do rust repair on a 60's model anything than what I have to work on daily.
You work at maaco? Because that’s exactly how it was when I worked there
I still use lead in my seams
The front of the peak looks funny. Must be the camera.

I saw metal spreaders the other day at harbor freight while i was getting my trusted plastic spreaders and thought 😮 now how the hell is that supposed to flex and be an extension of my hand while i mold and shape my filler???? Dumbest thing iv ever seen. We called those paint scrapers!!! 😂😂😂 They must be confused 🤔😂😂😂
I use them to scrape my bondo board
@@OldBondoBilly I use them to scrape my wooden fence before I repaint it LoL
I would never cheese grade Bondo.
If it's a big dent. Slap down some duraglas. Hit that up with 80 grit on a da. Before completely hardens to a rock then put my Bondo on. Depending on how hot it is that day.
Maybe hit the bondo up with 150 before it completely cures 100%.. but you have to be careful not to do it too early. Like he said you would break the seal and It could start peeling off which is something you don't want.
Then you got to scrape it all off and start over

You can also turn out the lights, and in the dark, move a single drop light up, down, and around and watch the shadows do their thing. I call it the "drop-light-trick." Works on drywall too. That is how I sculpted the 3-gallon Bondo quarter panel on the 73' Barracuda I once had. I used the "rocker-trick" too with a yardstick! Just like you, Billy! Yeah, you know all the old tricks! On a side note, can you show us your official Bondo pants, Billy? I had a pair of Bondo pants when I Bondo'd the Barracuda. I would clean my spreader on them. They got so covered in Bondo they could stand up on their own! They were the coolest thing until they broke in two. Ha ha!

What sander is that?
I've been trying to figure it out by the colors, it looks close to dynabrade, a couple of IR sanders and maybe a makita... heck, even HF has a baxter sander that uses the same colors, but I can't find anything that really looks like that one. I don't have anything that will cut short strand like that, like even a bondo hog won't do that (honestly, I swear my old DA cuts faster than my hog...)
Block primer with 320? YER FIRED! GET OUTTA MUH SHOP!!😂😂
It’s a Baxter with the bearing welded
I hate some of these smart ass comments. What is the make of your Sander Billy please. I’ve just looked at 300… from $450 to $39.99. Appreciate your advice and as always “Good Job” and Fuck em all. Happy New Year.
My “rough-in” sander is the Baxter DA from Harbor Freight with the bearing welded, $90. My precision DA if the National Detroit EZQ, $330
Dang. I was wondering this too. I guess I'm going to just have to stick with my orbital sander and pray 😂
Billy how do you feel about duraglas fiber filler? I bought some to fix the little imperfections on my ride. Is it a little too hard for a rookie to use? Should I buy a can of fibral lite instead?
Fibral Lite is stronger than duraglass

Can you please tell me what you you use to skim coat a pitted roof? On a 68 cougar, its getting a vinyl top so it doesn't need show car quality, but what wont crack? Or what filler? Any advise id be grateful 🙏 thanks
If it is rusty, I would spray 2K self etching primer on it then smear some dolphin glaze in any real big pits, but smaller pits aren’t gonna show through a vinyl top
@@OldBondoBilly thank you so much for your time. I was about to lead it lol
@OldBondoBilly Thank you for your time. After I stripped the roof down to bare metal and neutralize the rust I was going to POR15 the roof before I do the vinyl. I know a lot of people don't like it but also I think it's something that takes experience. One lack of detail can determine the whole outcome of the product. Once you get the hang of it and use it properly, you could drop that stuff down there with the titanic and it would be fine lol
You’re in OKC? Close enough to come meet in person and see a master work and teach in person LOL
Are you saying I should hold local classes?
Id be there!!
Omg I use that gun too and I was having issues with the gun being clogged too from sitting. I can figure out if it was the gun or the cheap single stage
Sitting for a month inside the gun??? What’s in it
Rust oleum but the purple gun turned to crap so I quit using that method. Now I mix up black basecoat and lacquer thinner in a can and pour it in my gun when I need it.
Great video as always brotha! I always learn so much from your videos!!!
what is your take on bondo over bare metal verse putting epoxy down first and then your body filler.
Thanks Harvey
I try to make it clear every chance I get that these new hot shots with their put Bondo on top of eeepoxy crap is just attention seeking, trying to be relevant. I don’t trust epoxy on bare metal, but I lifetime guarantee 2K self etching primer over bare metal
@@OldBondoBilly 1st person/bodyman/painter that I have ever heard say "they don't trust Epoxy on bare metal"....😕🤨 Wow....

I strip anything worth stripping (so boilers, radiators, cookers ect.) For the high valuble / "non-ferrous" metals inside for a living, however I know nothing about what I'm gutting out of it and so I'm always intruiged by how it works, / how its built made vs how to tear it apart, as that comes second nature to me at this point

My kids mistake you for ‘billy the dancing bug’ from hey duggee everytime they get so disappointed😂😂(it’s the accent I think) little do they know you’d do more for them than Hey Duggee would ever do

Why do people that don’t know what they’re doing give advise on you tube?
Oh, you have a channel?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@@PhillipHall01What video? I've been digging trying to figure out what sander that is just because I don't have anything that will cut short strand anything close to how that thing does. Though I've also decided that I need to get my mits on some of that Upol Fibral in case that stuff just cuts better than other short strand fillers.

I'm using USC firbrofiller and it seems very thick. Is there a way to thin it down? It's feels so think it's very difficult to mix all the air out of it.
Are you talking about Duraglass?
@@OldBondoBilly yes
USC makes plastic thinner you can add to make it creamier

"The baddest that you've ever seen"...What brand 6 inch sander is THAT btw? 🤔 LOOKS ta be one of those Bauer brand, that Harbor Freight introduced into their MORE "quality" kinda tools a couple plus years ago...I love mine! 😏 Also, please explain WHY you were using the Rust Oleum Satin Black 1st on the filler..(IK why, I think, Lol.) Just not ALL viewers might understand...👍. Looks like one of those cheapo Harbor Freight stands too lol. IK. FINE for rough in work. NOT so much WHEN, needing a stationary stand for precise blocking etc. Nice masking off where the factory stripes were/are supposed to go too. Is THAT the actual 69 pacer that was white with the orange stripes and that magnificent orange on black houndstooth interior? 🤔 Cool stuff 😎

That clank clank clank of the panel stand chains makes me feel like I'm there with ya brother.

say i need to cover a welded seam and use kitty hair. Would the right procudure be scratch 36 or 80 then apply and level kitty hair,Epoxy car, then poly filler skim coat, high build primer? This is for the sail panel welds on a novas qtr panel. Thanks man.
I recommend Upol Fibral Lite over welds, and any area where the filler will exceed 1/8 inch. Putting filler over the entire surface is a waste of labor and materials. Grind with 36 for filler on bare metal, 80 if your putting filler over primer or paint. Spray 2K self etching primer over bare metal, then epoxy over that if it has to be outside
