@James Henderson yes, smoking did play its part in the whole cancer thing but so did the childhood starvation, several miscarriages and other heath issues. You cant just blame it all on smoking. It was her life after all and her choises, not yours. Do some reasearch before speaking bullshit.

So hard to believe that she died in January 1993--so soon after this awards presentation. She may have already been ill from the cancer that claimed her life but probably not wanting to "call attention" to herself suffered in silence. What a class act! Regardless of whether you liked her acting, no one can deny that her poise and grace are largely absent from this current generation of so-called stars who do nothing but call attention to themselves!

Winston L Audrey Hepburn's mother was Ella, Baroness of Heemstra. Audrey Hepburn's brothers were noble born.
Audrey Hepburn's father was, well, not a good person during the war. British Union of Fascists(BUF) was the group Roger Waters modeled his stormtroopers in _The Wall_ after.
Audrey's father abandoned Audrey and her mother to be an insurrectionist.
Audrey Hepburn's life story is quite astounding, associating with the Dutch Underground during the German occupation of the Low Countries, nearly starving to death, not able to get medicine, having friends die, watching a young child being sent to one of *those trains* for camp.

She went to Somalia around August 1992. Upon her return, due to abdominal pain, she went for testing in Switzerland with inconclusive results. She continued on with testing in Los Angelos and in November was diagnosed with a rare form of abdominal cancer, which had metastasized after years of spreading as a thin coating over her small intestine. She underwent surgery followed by chemo but it was too late. She passed away in January 1993. I don't believe she knew about her cancer during this speech.

To bad she is no longer here the world need more Audrey. I recently had my little niece who just turned 12 to watch her in Funny face and she was in awe just like I was when I first watched it and her very first movie "Roman Holiday" she spoke about the outfits and she just was so in love with the movies we watched them at least three times or more until she went home. I love how movies like Romain Holiday and Funny face still have the same effects they had on my grandmother when she watched it with my mom to my mother watching it with me, and now getting the opportunity to share it with my daughter and nieces. I can't wait to experience Gone with the wind with her and Meet me in Saint Loui. Even though old Hollywood has it's negatives the hard work, dedication, and thought that went into each and every little detail is what made these and so many more classics magical for generations down the line.
