Yeah that's the problem with Android devices (generally),they only give 2 years update Wich pretty super lame compared to iOS , currently using Note 8 and iPhone 7+,
I'm thinking about picking up the Pixel 3a today, switching from 8 years with the iPhone. I currently have an iPhone 8 that I still owe $350 on, but I can upgrade with Verizon to this phone for $349 and essentially break even, minus taxes and the upgrade fee. I'll lose wireless charging and having a waterproof phone, but I've never wirelessly charged my phone nor ever dropped a phone in water, so I don't think I'm losing much. I saw the leak for the new iPhone, and as much as I've loved the iPhone 4S through 8, I'm over it and ready for a change. I care more about an elegant OS and user experience than specs, and Android has come a long way, particularly on the Google Pixel. I tried switching to the Pixel 2 last year, but the design wasn't as good both in hardware and software, so I'm glad this phone has come out so I can give Android another chance. I've never had an Android before, but it feels liberating to finally leave the iPhone. I still love Apple and will continue to purchase MacBooks for personal use, but it's nice to finally broaden my horizons.
I did the same. I had every iPhone up to the 8. I switched last year and haven't looked back. It's so liberating breaking out of the Apple mindset. I love my 3a XL.
Mike you are incredible! I have never experienced anyone that could present seamlessly with the speed of your delivery with no 'ums' or pauses, and your attention to detail and Engineering skills are phenomenal! are more impressive than the products you review, that being said I am a pixel 2 XL user and I have serious problems with the Pixel's always muting during a call, or if there's a screen change or you set the phone down, or there's been a screen change, or you set the phone down, or if you have another voice app like Google Voice running and a call comes in, or selecting another app, and by the time I get back to the call in progress, the person hangs up. I've also experienced the pixel then going black to sleep with no way to return to the call or any function until the caller hangs up! but the reason that these pixels are so amazing as they used less overhead than any other phones like Galaxy where there's so much more going on, but the reason that these pixels are so amazing as they used less overhead than any other phones like Galaxy where there's so much more going on. Pixels operate so much faster especially with system updates!
Thank you! I really appreciate your positive feedback! I agree that Google does a good job of using minimal overhead. That's unfortunate that your Pixel 2XL had so many problems. I haven't experienced them yet with this phone, but I just got it yesterday. Let's see if anyone else has.

Great review! I have this phone as well and really like it a lot! Prior to getting this, I was an iOS user for almost 7 years and I decided I wanted to tryout something different. When I first heard about this, it was really a no brainer for me. Btw, I came here from your brothers channel (Nate O'Brien) and you sound exactly like him! 😂
Liked and subscribed. I ordered the XL version. The lighter 670 processor isn't bad. Most mid-range phones these days have a snapdragon 630 or 660. And the camera is so good they could have literally built a camera and called it the G cam for 400 and that alone would have sold.
The bezel isn't chunky or unfortunate. I don't like doing thumb gymnastic trying to reach the top and bottom edges on bezelless phones. But for landscape mode, I actually have a place to rest my thumbs while playing games when there's a bit of bezel. With bezelless curved display it's easy to crack the screen when you drop the phone and glass screen protectors generally don't work well with them. They have more issues with accidental palm touches too. Bezelless displays have their downsides.
Thank you for the in depth review. I ordered the 3a today! I've been holding on to my Huawei Mate SE that's been having touch screen response issues waiting for something to come along that struck my fancy and didn't cost an arm and a leg. I'm not a heavy user of my phone and would rather operate on my laptop if I need the processing power to do anything other than snap photos and browse the internet.
I have the pixel 3a XL.. This thing is sweet... Battery is great, camera is really good...I think I love this phone.. And I usually keep flagship phones... This doesn't feel like a midranger at all...great phone... Highly recommend
@@MikeOBrienMedia well this is day one with the pixel 3a and it's just what I expected and I am very happy I got this and it was a huge upgrade for me and it is worth every penny for me
Good review. I always find it amusing when people baulk at the material used to build the phone, because the first thing I do for every phone I slip it into an otterbox defender.
I am due for an upgrade really soon and I am seriously considering to get this 3a. I am curious to know how is the Pixel 3a holding up? Does it have the same problems with charging, random rebooting, and screen issues as the flagship Pixel 3?
I just subscribed to your channel. Very good review. At 399.00 this is a very good phone. A dated design but I like it, plain & simple. With polycarbonate your don't have to worry about a drop. Now, that camera, this will definitely sell this phone. OLED display & pure android. I use the s10+ and love it but I'm going to pick this up, why not? If your an average consumer who can't afford or don't wanna pay 1,000 this is the ticket. The bottom line, flagship camera!
I agree with you 100%. I think that is an accurate analysis of this phone! Thanks for subscribing by the way!! I think we might hit 10k subscribers soon 🙏
I saw this in TMobile today and I was impressed by the build quality. I currently have a Nokia 6.1, but now that Pixel is being sold @ TMO I think Pixel may be my new phone.
Im coming from a Huawei honor 8 I've had for 3 years, REALLY considering this phone. My only two concerns is the speed and battery life of the pixel 3a. How do they compare?
Battery life looks really good from what I've seen. And for speed, it is noticably slower than my S10, but that is primarily due to the processor. The pure Android is light and the Google apps work very quickly. You might see some lag in CPU-heavy programs (such as the photo-sphere camera mode)
Picked up the Pixel 3a for my wife and she too also has or had a Honor 8 until today but the Pixel 3a is legit coming from the Honor 8. She really likes the software and camera unlike the Honor 8...
I like a lighter phone. My entire network is Chrome/android so I assume this would integrate well. I currently run Android One on my phone to avoid corporate skins. Does this phone have a skin on Android?
Purchased it, just set it up. For the price, It will do what I need a phone to do. Not giving any phone manufacturer a grand for a phone - not happening. Considering they all do the same thing: text, take pictures and drop calls (of course there are a few other perks) Nonetheless, I am satisfied.
I'm a regular Pixel 3 owner and really love it (more than your S10) but i do recommend to you to keep it instead of choosing the 3A as it is much more beautiful and a flagship... The only downside is the OS...
@@maxoo._ thank you for the reply. I love the s10. The Samsung One UI isn't that bad. Part of me wants that pure Google experience plus it may sound silly but that call screen feature is very intriguing. Also night sight is amazing.

I have Samsung Pay now and it have worked well for me, is it possible to use that service on the Pixel 3a or would it be better to move over to Google Pay?
I have a Stylo 4 right now, and I'm considering a Moto G7 for my next phone, so I'm def plugged into the low to mid-range market. I'm happy to see Google pay attention to this price point, but I'm just not sure this phone is worth $400.
It's funny going back to a polycarbonate phone now. My old Microsoft Lumia 950 was polycarbonate with the best camera in a phone . Now pixel are arguably the best camera phones . The nice thing about the 3A is that the body is shiny and feels premium. At first you would think it is metal. Nice and solid.
I have the Google 3a XL and I'm impressed with the performance overall. I'm in the UK and you also get a free chrome book worth £200. What's not to like. Only small downfall had to search for a phone case wallet at local phone shops... It's so new none in stock yet. I have managed to find a case on Amazon for £6.49... It will be delivered today! 😁
@@Jhonnycomelate nope. I left my OnePlus 6t for the Pixel 3a XL. Best decision I ever made with my phone choice. It has better battery life, smoother OS, Pixel exclusives, regular updates, it's just a way better experience.
Quick question hope you sees it and reply back to it, so you said its not water resistant so, will it at-least survive walking in rain with phone in wet pocket
To be honest, I like the bezels and they look equal on the top and bottom instead of the A70, which has a water drop and the top and a thinner rounded bezel at the bottom.
just received the 3a ( planning to upgrade to the pixel 4 in Oct) from the mail! been trying to switch out iphone for years! the worse are the battery life ... by 11am my battery is at 30-40% .
Will be more like $430-$450 depending on state and sales tax for most Americans. Still cheaper than Ireland, but unfortunately that the way it goes. It's even more expensive here in the UK at £400 - that's about €450 or more.
Mike, thx for your review. It would have been nicer if YOU had given your opinion of the sound quality - much more relevant and useful than that useless "comparison" where you played a couple seconds.
Thanks for the suggestion! In my opinion, the speakers are nice, but because they're both on the bottom, the position of your phone matters more than it might with other phones. The sound is slightly less full than the S10, but for a $400 phone, I was impressed!
go and spend 10 min with each phone. And you will decide if a 50% diffrence in price is worth for you. Personally i went with the 3a ,but i'm comming from an xperia xa so it will be an impressive bump regardless.

At 8mins & 40seconds in the video he give props to google for "finally using a double ended USB-C". the pixel has been using a double ended USB type-c for years on their power brick.... Not only that but he was wrong three other times during this video..... I think some of this was rushed and he might not know a whole lot about the pixel phone but I still appreciated his in-depth review and I'm sure he'll get better. Just some constructive criticism
Bezels on this device are way better than any implementation from ANY company for me. Water resistance would've been nice but if price cuts mean you get 3.5 mm jack back, I'll take that any day. I'm sure life proof or other brands will soon make waterproof cases for this anyways. Time will tell about the battery performance. I barely use high performance games so I'll take a lower grade chipset for the sake of battery efficiency.
@fartbox tongue puncher in real world usage, I don't think so. You can ask people who has both pixel 2 and pixel 2 xl or pixel 3 and pixel 3 xl. And their battery size difference is not that even that big.
Me, too. Not sure I can live with the lower 402 PPI than the 3a's resolution. But then again, with the 3a XL I'd get a slightly larger screen with a slightly larger virtual keyboard.
Very detailed in the description, but great phone; not into android like that but I’ll say this is the cheap affordable phone for this year! ($300) is a great deal is you if you ask me. Rare but low cost!! Apple should take note 📝
Thank you! I wonder if other phone brands will follow this trend or keep going up in price... Samsung clearly wants to keep going up, as we saw with their $2000 Galaxy Fold, but Apple does have the iPhone SE
Mike O'Brien I doubt it, lowest that Apple can sell there phones would be in between 600-800 still a lot! But they I’m pretty sure they’ll go up. The trade option is the way to go
Wait a second How long do you have your HTC desire 630 ? My one started to develop battery problems not long ago as well. Coincidence ? Or HTC wants us to buy new phones ? PS thinking about a new pixel 3a as well but it's expensive to buy one where I live.
I've got a pixel 2.. rite now.. idk.. the price range is good, but i don't think i like , that, it's not waterproof.. but i do like the camera.. so.. i wonder how much i could get for my trade in..?? Have to shop around...thanks for sharing...
I don't personally own this phone, but have been looking into the phone, generally when youtube doesn't fill the screen on most phones when you got "full screen" you usually have to pinch and zoom the screen while it's in full screen mode to fill the screen.
I like the polycarbonate build quality. For myself I like it better than the glass sandwich. I paid 4oo.oo bucks tax included for my 3a XL. To me it's definitely a no brainer. That camera, OLED display & 🔋 are very good. This is the true value pixal, the flagships are definitely overpriced for what's offered. I would say both are great deals!
Good video with except when you talk about getting it for $299 at Best buy cuz that's a little bit true and not...you have to add another line to your account. I think the better deal is to go with the Google store I'm trade in your old iPhone. As an example Google will give you 250 for your iPhone SE depending on its condition makes the pixel 3 a good deal.
Thanks! I agree. It's interesting that Google decided to go in the opposite direction of their competitors. We'll see if this turns out to be a big seller or not!
I expect stellar battery performance with both models due to the 670 & 9pie. I want my pie & eat it too! The best thing finally, it's handled on ALL US carrier's. That will make the 3a have excellent sales. You getting much for 399.00, yikes! That camera......
I the only thing that I see badly to that phone is its memory capacity, it should have arrived with 128Gb, no matter that the RAM memory was 4Gb. I've already seen many videos where some reviewers have complained because the phone comes in plastic, is it serious? Then they complain that the glass catches many fingerprints, if they let it fall, the back part breaks. So, I do not understand the people, they complain about everything, it's something boring and already very fed up, to hear the same thing. The one that does not want it with that material, because they do not buy it, now, in the market there are many phones to choose from. If that phone had come with 128Gb of internal memory, believe me, I buy it, I think I would sacrifice my Xiaomi Mi A2 of 6Gb of RAM and 128Gb for one of these Google phones, but since it does not come in that version, no, it does not interest me at all. IMHO!🤷🏻♂️📱
I felt that way when I bought my pixel 1 and got the 128gb...found out with that backup feature I had 4000 pics but only used like 40gbs and had access to all my photos and videos
Google will never sell this well only in America maybe. Countries like India, UK, Europe and latin América..prices are ridiculous. The 3a costs equivalent to 520 dollars in the UK and about 570 dollars in India. Which is crazy.
Pixel is you want a cheaper phone with better camera but one plus if you want a more powerful phone for like gaming or other daily stuff but more expensive
It depends if you really use your phone a lot if you need it for everything you do then I would say one plus but if you don't need it as much then get pixel
All the "features" Google dropped on this phone actually seem like upgrades to me: plastic is better than glass for me. No wireless charging is nothing to complain about. Only one camera.... Ect.

According to Google, P3 weighs 148g, P3A weighs 147g. You really could notice 1 gramme difference which makes it feel cheaper?
I got the Pixel 3a in black. Astonishing value for a quality smartphone from google
Agreed!
I'm getting one. Trading in from a S8+. Been w/ Samsung since 08' and I'm just tired of the os and never updates.
Please come back and let us know what you think once you try it!
Yeah that's the problem with Android devices (generally),they only give 2 years update Wich pretty super lame compared to iOS , currently using Note 8 and iPhone 7+,
Was thinking of getting the S9 it's a better buy than this but it's the Software + Updates that worries me
I'm thinking about picking up the Pixel 3a today, switching from 8 years with the iPhone.
@@MikeOBrienMedia thank you Mike but would you do for a living that you I think you said you're an Engineer?
Pixel 3a is my all time favorite
Not ( XL ) i just love it
Light weight

Global Citizen how is your battery life?
Why do you think the fingerprint sensor on the back not safe ? I seriously doubt your comment about that.
Copied directly from support.google.com:
"We strongly recommend locking your screen to help protect your phone. Your fingerprint sensor gives you a convenient unlocking option.
But there are a few things to keep in mind:
A fingerprint can be less secure than a strong PIN, pattern, or password.
A copy of your fingerprint could be used to unlock your phone. You leave fingerprints on many things you touch, including your phone."
@@MikeOBrienMedia
Google must be mentioning about fingerprint sensors in general. Not that the sensor on Pixel phone is weaker. Anyways will watch your video again. I could have had wrong perception.
I would like to see a comparison between the Pixel 3a XL vs Oneplus 7 Pro, please.
Liked and subscribed. I ordered the XL version. The lighter 670 processor isn't bad. Most mid-range phones these days have a snapdragon 630 or 660. And the camera is so good they could have literally built a camera and called it the G cam for 400 and that alone would have sold.
The G cam 😂😂 that's great. Thanks for liking and subscribing!!

Outdoor visibility(nits count) and overall performance(gaming, video playback and camera)?
The bezel isn't chunky or unfortunate. I don't like doing thumb gymnastic trying to reach the top and bottom edges on bezelless phones. But for landscape mode, I actually have a place to rest my thumbs while playing games when there's a bit of bezel. With bezelless curved display it's easy to crack the screen when you drop the phone and glass screen protectors generally don't work well with them. They have more issues with accidental palm touches too. Bezelless displays have their downsides.
Exactly!!!!
Yeah it sounds like the 3a is definitely the right phone for you. Thanks for watching!!
Thank you for this video im definitely going to get the pixel 3a
Thanks! Please come back and let us know what you think!
@@MikeOBrienMedia will do!!
Does it have the same problems with charging, random rebooting, and screen issues as the flagship Pixel 3?
i heard that google cut corners with the screen, did you run into that? its dragon trail glass (so real glass?) vs gorilla glass???
Sweet looking phone! I love the Night Sight feature.
For a second I thought idubbz was reviewing phones when I saw the thumbnail...
Hey, that's pretty good, nice review man!
Thanks for sharing! I'm glad she likes the new phone!
@fartbox tongue puncher Yeah, it was time to move on from the Honor 8. It was stuck on nougat and the camera was not cutting it.
yesterday was my first full day with my 3a. It definitely lasted all day, and that included playing a good bit of pokemon!
I have a note 8 and just picked this up to see how Google does things.i. definitely getting the pixel 4.This 3a is no slouch. I'm liking it.
Haptic feedback ? Same, better or worse ?
The haptic feedback is clicky. Not mushy feeling.
I have a s10. Was thinking of switching to the Pixel 3a. Thoughts??
I'm a regular Pixel 3 owner and really love it (more than your S10) but i do recommend to you to keep it instead of choosing the 3A as it is much more beautiful and a flagship... The only downside is the OS...
@@maxoo._ thank you for the reply. I love the s10. The Samsung One UI isn't that bad. Part of me wants that pure Google experience plus it may sound silly but that call screen feature is very intriguing. Also night sight is amazing.
@@DarrenNY81 my dream would be that Google should make the same smartphone as the S10 for the Pixel 4 🥰😍😘
But leaving the bixby button of course and putting all the buttons on the right side (power and volume rocker)
These aesthetics more the Google experience would be amazing ! 👍
@@maxoo._ everyone keep talking about how horrible Bixby is. Lol. I haven't used it yet. The last android phone I had was the Note 3.
I'd wait and get a pixel 4 unless you are wanting to get out of owning flagships all together.
For me the killer is the non SD slot :( and the waterproof features, Other than that it sounds like a good phone.
Have the 3a xl and I have an iPhone xs max.. I love the pixel.. The camera is amazing!! Have not gone back to my iPhone yet..
Found you at 10k subs. Keep up the good work!
Switched from an s8+ to a pixel 2 xl my friend is about to purchase pixel 3a xl soon mainly because of price, headphone jack & cameras
Rather wait for OnePlus 7 and 7plus
@@Jhonnycomelate nope. I left my OnePlus 6t for the Pixel 3a XL. Best decision I ever made with my phone choice. It has better battery life, smoother OS, Pixel exclusives, regular updates, it's just a way better experience.
3:07 Stereo speakers: Only one speaker is located at the bottom! Behind the other grill is the microphone.
How would you feel about switching from an S9 to a 3a XL?
Great! I came from a OnePlus 6t and absolutely recommend the 3a XL over the 6t.
I did this, I'm not disappointed. But being totally honest I kept my S9 so I can use it whenever I want.
Quick question hope you sees it and reply back to it, so you said its not water resistant so, will it at-least survive walking in rain with phone in wet pocket
I love uncle Google, he is my best virtual friend and answers most of my questions. I do however hate large bezels, I think I will settle for the A70.
"uncle Google" 😂
Yeah the bezel is a bit chunky, but it's not bad for the price
To be honest, I like the bezels and they look equal on the top and bottom instead of the A70, which has a water drop and the top and a thinner rounded bezel at the bottom.
Im a light gamer but I do play pubg and cod. Can it handle those games smoothly?
just received the 3a ( planning to upgrade to the pixel 4 in Oct) from the mail! been trying to switch out iphone for years! the worse are the battery life ... by 11am my battery is at 30-40% .
Can you review the new P30?
Are you going to keep it?
Great detailed overview, But enquiring minds want to know how is the call quality ?
Exactly!!!!!
I live in Ireland and the phone is 399 Euro, in USA it's 399$
What to do ? Anyone can help ?
It's a 100 Euro difference.
Will be more like $430-$450 depending on state and sales tax for most Americans. Still cheaper than Ireland, but unfortunately that the way it goes. It's even more expensive here in the UK at £400 - that's about €450 or more.
Aleks B Bro 399$ to 399€ is not 100€ difference it is more like 45€.
After watching really dull and misinformed videos, this is an awesome video. And well lit and filmed too (great depth of field).
Thank you! I really appreciate your positive feedback!
Great video 👍
Costco now has the S10 for $629, is it still worth it to buy the 3a for $400?
go and spend 10 min with each phone. And you will decide if a 50% diffrence in price is worth for you. Personally i went with the 3a ,but i'm comming from an xperia xa so it will be an impressive bump regardless.
Can you explain this phone why 64gb internal memory no SD cardslot?
So no wireless charging, does it or the XL support NFC for payments?
They both do
no wireless charging?? Why do they offer pixel 3,A,XL"wireless charging stand???

I'm torn... I don't know if I should get the 3a or the 3a XL?! :-/
3a xl. That 3700mah battery will get you through full day.
Get the XL. I wasn't sure but it's taken less than a week to get used to the size.
I'm a new subscribe to your page and I'm researching on what type of phone I should buy next at a reasonable price.

Pixel 2 (refurbished) vs Pixel 3a. Which one would you pick and why?
Probably pixel 2, cause it costs less than 3a, but better specs....
The 3a I own a pixel 2 I have had it for a year and a half and it's already giving me issues. I just trade it in for the 3a XL
I would choose the Pixel 2 but only in a brand new version coming from Google store... 😁

Pixel 2 has huge bezels
This phone with previous snapdragon 800 series I really sure will be more powerful and fantastic
Should I pay $650 from Google store for Pixel 3a or buy BNIB a Samsung S9 for $600?

It will probably sell in the north america but it will have a tough in asian/european market mainly because of chinese smartphones..
399€ in europe
@@pitchblack3138 in UK we use pounds... Unfortunately conversion rate not good at all. India expensive too because of taxes. Latin America even worse

One plus 7 Or Google pixel 3a
Which phone should I buy?
Pixel is you want a cheaper phone with better camera but one plus if you want a more powerful phone for like gaming or other daily stuff but more expensive
It depends if you really use your phone a lot if you need it for everything you do then I would say one plus but if you don't need it as much then get pixel
All the "features" Google dropped on this phone actually seem like upgrades to me: plastic is better than glass for me. No wireless charging is nothing to complain about. Only one camera.... Ect.
