I owned the Google pixel 3 since December and haven't noticed any bogging down. I play intensive games on it quite often too. That makes me wonder if it's only the XL that gave people issues
@@nigel8499 it's the hardware that's different and might have different limitations, with the XL there are more pixels on the screen which is a little more work for the phone to process
Far as I'm concerned it was a lie started by MKBHD whilst being groomed by OnePlus, I know nobody who says their pixel has slowed down and jumped on by anti pixel fanboys, my pixel 2XL which is "Painfully slow" according to reviewers still flies
@@RKO6192 I doubt he was lying, it's just he gets phones before the official release date, he likely was using it before it was officially updated so he's one of the few people who had a bad experience. I've used the 3XL with and without the notch. I hated the notch at first but I dont wanna disable it now because the extra real estate which is useful than a chunky bezel
Notch doesn't imply more screen real estate. Galaxy S8 and S9 had better screen to body ratios without a notch or hole in the display than the X/XR/XS did with a notch, for example. Screen to body ratio doesn't tell the whole story either, because the bits of the screen next to the notch are pretty useless aside from showing the time and notifications; you can't really use that space well while gaming or watching a video and will likely deal with a lot of letterboxing because of it. Disabling the notch would of course give you less screen space than not disabling it, but better yet is not to have a notch in the first place.
@@notstarboard we are talking about Pixel phones. Pixel 3XL design is a Pixel 2XL with more screen real estate. Basically they just added cutouts for additional real estate. That's what they designed
@@notstarboard also, if you are saying having bezels are better, its not. If you cutout that bezel and add more screen, that's still much better making the usable space longer. If you put cutouts on those Galaxy S8 and S9 they would provide more space lol. There is a mode that you can disable the Pixel 3XL notch totally like it simulates a large thick bezel. If you have tried it you would notice that it uses lesser real estate. It's prominent when browsing apps you get to see less content.

It bothers me when people say its plastic THEREFORE no wireless charging. The lack of wireless charging is clearly a cost cut, nothing to do with the lack of glass back. We want premium plastic phones again, htc one x is still my favourite.
Exactly, how on earth so many of the supposedly tech reviewers do not seem to know that plastic does not interfere with electromagnetic field and therefore it is perfectly fine for wireless charging - unlike metal of course. On the sidenote: from what I have heard it is actually a big part of the HTC team that worked on the Pixel 3a - great work!
I saw a lot of reviews about the pixel A XL. Your review touched on a lot of things that other reviewer said because they're factual but your video was the most informative. I purchased the phone confidently based on your review. I am an iPhone user and have been for the past three years. I've always owned Android. I love my iPhone because of the video quality and everything is very simplistic in terms of it just works. I have to say with all the updates and changes I am slowly creeping back to the pixel. I don't like Samsung or any other companies if I use a phone that has to be directly from them. I'm strictly iPhone or pixel. Thank you for the review.
For the longest time I wanted to switch to an Android. I have an iPhone 7 Plus and I really want to upgrade to the 3a. Is it worth the upgrade or should I stick to my 7 Plus? (How does the cpu of both phone compare with each other?)

I can't wait till the full review, can I ask what's the quality of selfie pictures taken on the Pixel 3a/3a XL? And do they really have different screen ratio (18.5:9 vs 18:9)?
If you want that Pixel 3 camera then this Pixel 3a is the device to pick. If a camera is not your priority then there is definitely better devices out there for the money.
Name one. (Yes - I'm serious.) Both Huawei and POCO - carrier-support issues. And I frankly admit that the camera is *overkill*. The Note 9 or S9 is more than twice the price - and I was looking at Best Buy - which has the unlocked 3a for $299USD. It's basically a modern Google Nexus (the first Android smartphone I ever owned) - which - unlike either the S7 that is my current daily driver - OR my GNex- which it replaced - can actually run Pie (in fact, it includes it OOTB). Do I get brave and dare to throw the current beta of Q at it? Twenty-four hour turn-around time - at worst. (All of it on MY end.) The Pixel 3a is a killer phone - and that is *not* counting the camera.

I like the idea of having the raw android system and no manufacturer skins or fluff on top. Actually, I'm thinking that it's both the Nexus of 2019 *AND* an iPhone XR killer. The headphone jack is retained; however, wireless charging is missing. Still, how many folks actually use it (wireless charging, I mean)? Then there is the fact that it can swallow the Q beta - and can do so *now*; how many sub$400USD phones can state that?
Did this guy just state that the Nexus phones had bad cameras? The $250 Nexus 5 had a decent camera which was good for the price point. The Nexus 6+ had a good camera. Don't just make stuff up.
yeah that comment made me question if he even used that phone. I'm still rocking the nexus 6p atm, and it still holds up against modern flagships like the iphone XS and pixel 3. Someone posted a great video 6 months ago comparing the nexus 6p to the whole pixel line and it's still able to trade blows. My friends are always asking me which phone I'm using when I share pictures.
The Nexus 5 was $350. I'd say it had an adequate camera. People said it was bad on release, but it really wasn't. It did very well in good light but had poor dynamic range and struggled in low or variable light. The Nexus 6+ doesn't exist, so I'm not sure which phone you're talking about lol

Glad you mentioned the speaker quality. I couldn't get info on it before
Which part was it? Thanks in advance!
This just took a steamy dump on oneplus, in terms of camera quality.
Nothing touching the OnePlus right now dude
@@webbie1891 in terms of camera quality plenty of phones beat it, including the pixel 3a

yeah
And much more efficient to the battery
it's more about efficiency and battery life than actual raw performance.
Just to redress the balance a bit, to date I've had no camera issues at all with my Pixel 3XL.

How big is it? Is it a very large phone like when you hold it?

With Apple's crazy high prices, this is Google's chance to shine. They need to amp up their game more.
The Nexus 5x and 6p had the best android cameras of their time.
The Nexus 5x was also really cheap, I had mine for a few months so I didn't experience any of its issues but it was pretty amazing for the price.
I still have my Nexus 6P, I am using it right now. I love the size of this phone and the front facing speakers.. I did however break down today and buy the Pixel 3A XL... I hope the camera is as good... I always get compliments on my pictures on this phone. Always....
I had a Nexus 5X. As much as I loved that phone (possibly my favourite phone ever), let's be honest the camera was dogshit in anything less than the best conditions.
@@ilyasibz what? Maybe your unit was defective. After having it it was really hard getting used to other phones cameras. Even the main camera in the Galaxy S7 didn't feel as good.
I've read in Reddit of other people that also had trouble getting used to other phones cameras.
I had no complaints with my 6P until it started powering off at 50% battery. Then I went back to Samsung. Looking forward to trying other phones as they show innovation and great specs. Currently looking at Asus zenfone 6

small sacrifice in performance, great price, no notch, headphone jack, this is perfect
What a hell of a review... This is how it's supposed to be done... Amazing 👌
I thought the 6P/5X had people praising the cameras at the time tho? Especially for the price especially for the 5X
This isn't an IPhone XR killer..... This is a midrange offering from Google that offers better affordability and headphone jack.
Well said
It's a industry killer for those that know value.
Google isn't pretending they have the best hardware anymore and is just trying to offer the best bang per buck.
That is exactly what I am after.
Unfortunately Google was too late this year for me but Google is doing well. I'll give them a pass for 5g phones if they try again not pixel 3 or copy apple Jack gate.
I hated that they copied apple's failure. No Jack is NOT innovation fk apple killing the jack.
No apple Jack's for them.
This may be as good as one plus budget flagships
The build quality on the 3a & XL with the polycarbonate build quality is excellent. I like it better than the glass sandwich? In case of a drop very durable? That 📷, OLED display & 🔋 are really nice? On average 7to8hrs SOT. The 670processer works admirably, no lags or stutters. I would recommend either phone to anyone? The tech geeks or the novice?
I wouldn’t call this an XR killer but it’s a great phone for someone who just needs a phone like it’s a perfect phone to get for a parent...good job google a solid entry level phone
Yep. Perfect for my mom.
That's exactly why I'm looking at it.
@@GalaxyNexus1- Exactly. It is just over half the price of the S9 or Note 9, and is less than half the price of the S10e. It also has *no notch at all* - which can't be said of the S9, Note 9, or the S10e. If you are used to the photos of an S7, do you *really* have a need for even the doubtless-superior camera of the Pixel 3a - let alone any of the competitors - which cost more than the Pixel 3a/3a XL?
Yes ok for parents but most people I know in this category don’t even care about the quality of the camera to be honest , probably will find most people esp in uk will go with a cheap Samsung contract or other I just really dont know anyone with a google phone , and could you really see kids going for this plastic phone
Lol exactly why I'm looking at reviews ba
The Nexus 6P had the most amazing camera for its time. In fact it was THE phone that started putting Google at the top of the photography charts with its improved HDR+ goodness. It was not the fastest phone of its day either, packing the overheating snapdragon 810. Except for the metal body that only the 6P had, these new Pixel "a" phones are the clear continuation of the last Nexus releases.
Perhaps I got a bad one but I would say the Nexus 6P is the worst of all Nexus phones. The camera was the only good part about it IMO.
I owned the Google pixel 3 since December and haven't noticed any bogging down. I play intensive games on it quite often too. That makes me wonder if it's only the XL that gave people issues
Is it not the same software?
This is the problem with reviews on launch day… It's the reviewers that actually use the device for a month and then make a review who really use the device, the people who live with it for a long period of time
@@Zipzeolocke I mean with the 2XL is when he started claiming that "Pixels get slow after 6 months" - Look at his video of "Why I don't use the Pixel"
I have a pixel 3 XL. I have not had any issues with software.
Excellent video, love the detailing you did on the chipset build.
I swear every reviewer thinks a cheaper phone from a big brand is a "iphone xr killer"

@@pattycarljackson yes it does. It's like saying a flagship killer. It's ideally getting a cheaper phone for comparable or better specs than the pricer product
Michael Hazell it’s not killing off anything. Apple generally sells more iPhones then Samsung sells their phones. No supposed “flagship killer” has actually ever killed off their more expensive counterparts especially a Samsung phone.

What a remarkable review!!! Keep it up
The 3a phones pretty much give a reason why not to get the premium pixel phones. Great review on the 3a/3aXL
Which is a better feel on the hand. Pixel 3a or the XL version? I'm asking because I'm not a fan of very big phones
Would you know if there's a dual sim dual standby support using Android Q Beta? nano + esim?

Love the fact that they brought back the jack but the rest of the specs just feels like a slap in the face because of how noticably cut back they are.

@@PGHammer21A Lol! About every other Chinese mid-range smartphone is a better value than the Pixel 3a minus the camera. Nexus is dead as actually it was a disgrace after the Nexus 5.

Daniel I think they are trying to reach a whole new level of people who don't want to spend all the flagship money but have all the features packed into a device and think it is a smart choice on their part because most will be able to get other accessories that go with their phones and break into Google ecosystem which will help them get better over time.I see Moto and many others that are in many people's hands with not many complaints. So kudos to Google for trying to get out into some of the market and let others experience their features and the other products they sell. Thanks so much for sharing glad to see you guys and girls back in my feed.Good Job Deb.😉👍✌

Just ordered one. Have had various phones over the years both iOS and Android. Im over those high end phones. Paying 800 dollars for a phone is silly. Getting back to Android for now. I like the idea of having the raw android system and no manufacturer skins or fluff on top. Shame it doesnt have wireless charging, its not a deal breaker but its very convinient being able to just plop it down on the shelf in the car or when you get home instead of fidgeting with a cable.
