I wish they would. They still had some compromises, but they were a lot more forgiving when the prices were lower. I'm sure these will sell way better than the overpriced Flagships.
@Jason Stieber as a 400$ phone, it is way slower than phones in the same category and even lower prices. That alone is a major turn-down and a real threat to mid to long-term reliability. And that's not even considering the horrible performance decrease that we saw with the flagship Pixel lineup. The reality is: they cheaped out too much on performance for the sake of profit. I don't know about you, but in the Pocophone era I would never spend 400$ for a phone that, out of the box, needs 5 seconds to open Spotify. I loved the Nexus 5 and 5X, and the Pixel 3a is definitely a step in the right direction; don't get me wrong. But, as usual in the recent years, to me Google has again underdelivered in hardware.
But the Pixel 3a has a much better camera and a headphone jack, but yes the pricing is too much. The LG G7 ThinQ is probably the best value for money, way better than the OnePlus phones
I just purchased the phone today at Best Buy 3a XL. First impressions are wow! The screen quality on this is not bad at all. If you have ever owned a device that ran on google OS on a HTC m8 google play edition or Nexus 6 you will know what I am talking about. The way the animations and vibration of the motor and just overall NO LAG feel *BUTTER*. The transitions and the way how the phone feels is great. I came from a Huawei Mate 9 and I wanted to go back to an unlocked google phone. What you need to consider is what you do with your phone and what you need it for. To me these are my key takeaways. Unlocked/No bloatware. Great camera. Regular updates OS/Security. Always on display. Headphone Jack. Stereo Speakers that sound pretty damn good. Built in EQ that works without having to root or mod any files. It has the squeeze thing on the side for google assistant. On a day to day basis you just want a phone that works well. If you are coming from an older phone 2015-2017, I would highly recommend this for $479. Plus I got a gift card for $100.

1. Think that main advantage of OLED is the fact that you COULD make bezels thin, guess this one was made by HTC and they obviously lag 5 years behind 2. I remember how 2-3 years ago I was buying device with flagship processor for 300 USD and now we got this for 399. Guess INNOVATIONS like dark theme cost a lot!
I love it! But, my only doubt is that if it would be better pay a hundred dollars more and get a OnePlus 6T or even de OnePlus 7 is the price is like the 6T.
I have a 6T. And honestly, the fingerprint scanner is good. Its just as fast and reliable as the og face I'd, if you ever used the iPhone X. Not saying that is a high bar to hit, but it gets the job done. And personally, the image quality and video on the 6t are great if you know how to use a photo editor. Sure, it's not "insta ready" but the camera, especially video, is still top 5. And in the end, it is just so stupid fast. Even with newer phones, like samsung, my 6t often blows them out of the water.
@ben owen but considering the price its weak .We are geting 845 under 300$ like pocofone . And pixel device are known to slowdown after uses of few month.
just get an mi MIX 2s faster chip / Dual back camera (sure it is not that good as the Pixel ones but it is not bad) / far smaller bezels / wireles charging / Premium feel / and it`s slightly cheaper at least in my country

Just launched, and it's already slow as hell. Well played.
@Jason Stieber lol poco phone is available for 250$ with g cam supoort and 845 processor
@@sumanghosh8312 G cam =/= a good camera. Pocophone also can't touch Google's software, which is one of the main selling points of Pixel devices.
@@notstarboard i know pocophone will not get the full power of GCam... But after installing gcam it clicks great pic specially at night..
But with sd845's outstanding image processing it is capable to produce pics that are comparable with pixel
Pixel 3a is selling for $575 in India. Way more than OnePlus 6T
S8 or pixel 3A??
Help me choose please...
oneplus 6t is much cheaper here in india than the pixel 3a, and overall a much better phone as well in that price range
Not for India, but will definitely sell in US and EU
@@shourya4508 if only they'd have priced it at around 20-25k, id have bought it without second thoughts
@@AK-nz9se Could have been near 28k if not for import taxes on pixel 3a
@@shourya4508 putting just one great feature (cam) on an otherwise mediocre phone doesn't really justify even that price in my personal opinion
20k for 3a, 25k for 3a xl
You get poco at 20k with sd 845
Agree Lets see hat the One+7 does to blow this away of course Price will be number 1
The Pixel 3a is about $90 more expensive here in the UK. And no dual front-speakers is a bit of a killer for me.
Dominic Naylor we have 20% tax, the USA have to pay tax ON TOP OF $399 cost of the phone.
Nokia 8.1 is also a great phone for this price range
Would actually choose that instead if it was available in my country. :-/
Tony Da Realest nah don't compare because pixel is better
@@meritosagie4394 nah it doesn't compare because Nokia is better.
Do you see what's wrong with your comment?
I am UPGRADING from a OnePlus ONE and purchased a 3aXL. Appreciate your video!
Amazing review as always, Dieter is the best! I'm also annoyed by the fact it misses the second front face camera. When you get used to it on the regular Pixel, it makes a lot of difference on the group selfies.
I just placed an order for it. I can't wait.
Picked up a Galaxy S10 e after not being happy with my pixel 3 for 450 at Best buy SD 855 and great camera way better deal
What didn't you like about the Pixel?
@@EliasSchnetzer had the pixel 2 xl last year terrible screens and performance issues went to the iPhone XR battery life was ridiculously good but hate the OS and Apple eco system, then went back to the Pixel 3 again terrible performance slow and buggy battery life is awful had to charge twice a day, now I am on day three of the 10S e performance is much better battery slightly better hoping it is just the constant new phone tweaking that is draining the battery. disabled a lot of Samsung stuff, I converted the Bixby button to turn on Camera and installed Rootless Pixel Launcher to get swipe right Google feed.
@@murph5150 Didn't hear from bad performance on Pixel 3 from other people. Most of the reviews say it's great. 🤔
@@EliasSchnetzer No. Mkbhd also said pixel 3 became slow.
@@jeevankachana9924 Did he? Where?
*People* we can't afford premium
*Microsoft* we've got *surface go*
*Google* yo.. here comes *pixel 3a*
*People* No, thanks...
People: No, thanks, I'll stick to my iPhone and MacBook.
This guy is awesome
Good job on the review Verge!
Feel like verge is taking over tech RUclips channels because of this guy. Mate this is great.
the only thing that's keeping me from buying this is the lack of expandable storage. i don't stream music so 64gb of storage just won't cut it.
i'm sick of modern tech having useless or hindering non-features or just outright removing stuff for dubious reasons.
1. Think that main advantage of OLED is the fact that you COULD make bezels thin, guess this one was made by HTC and they obviously lag 5 years behind
I'd rather have this camera and the REAL finger print scanner on the back. Under the screen is great, but not on the 6T. It misses, often.
Great video guys!
Finally, you didn't say anything like it's not an iPhone or iProduct.
I think it is a good first phone for youth
They should have give a 730 chip
If they cannot give a 845.
Sd 710
@ben owen but considering the price its weak .We are geting 845 under 300$ like pocofone . And pixel device are known to slowdown after uses of few month.
just get an mi MIX 2s faster chip / Dual back camera (sure it is not that good as the Pixel ones but it is not bad) / far smaller bezels / wireles charging / Premium feel / and it`s slightly cheaper at least in my country
I waiting so much for a replacement for my beloved Nexus 5.
But now I in doubt if OnePlus filled this lack.
Same thing here... what did you endup doing ?
You guys can buy Razer phone 2 at 500$ and buy a best phone in performance
I bought one recently and the performance is incredible and camera is amazing
It has ip rating (67/68)
Snapdragon 845 (overclocked)
Stereo speakers
Amazing camera
Dual sim
Sd card support (up to 2 tb)
MAHIR KHAN DESHWALI I think the video recording was a smaller downside of that phone.
considering i just got it for €179 in a black friday deal, Im happy 😁
How? I got it for €329 unlocked from Google. Got €70 off during black Friday Love it
Thanks for the shoutout! been a Nexus 5 user for 6 years now ( don't ask me why )
Glad to think im a part of the og android master race that has given birth to this era
Yuvan Seth why
Yeah, why?
Nexus 4, 5, 6 here kek
You say all this but the Nexus 5 was an enthusiast phone with amazing specs for the price this is just a good phone for the price with average specs even at its price.
It's basically the reincarnation of the Nexus 5 just in the body of Pixel and updated components.
reincarnation of the nexus line, glad they're doing it
Worse CPU xd for the time
@@NickHunter I agree with this I had a nexus 6p and loved it while using project fi. I bought it at 479.99 a year goes by and I had that battery bug. Google did an RMA and sent me back a Google Pixel XL. Loved both phones. Nexus is why I tried Google phones.
@@michaelwilliams1036 Pixel is the final answer to the shortcoming of the Nexus lineup, the only thing holding back those phones was the janky camera. First few photos I took with the Pixel I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. The unlimited photo storage doesn't hurt either! :-)
I haven't been able to recommend a phone when friends or family members asked about a good affordable phone for a couple of years. But this?!? This is just the one!!! 3.5mm jack is back baby!!!
The seconds lost in opening two dots are the seconds lost forever
Google budget pixel for India is $399 in U.S and *$570* here in India 🙊
Still wishing for an iPhone SE2!
mpoon Dream on 😂
Dunno, I also think is going to happen
Think of it this way. Spend $400 bucks to get an unlocked Google Phone with at least 3 years of updates and the best all around camera in the game. Count me in!
The real question is how are updates going to work for TMobile? Do they come from Google or have to go through TMobile?
I wish you went slightly more in depth. Great camera, but does it do 60fps recording? SD support? How good is the fingerprint sensor? I have the Nokia 6.1 and I must say, I freaking hate how iffy the fingerprint sensor is on this phone. I was gonna switch AT SOME POINT, but not yet. Like you said, wait a bit.
Great review, but again, I strongly feel reviewers should talk about the quality of audio output from the headphone jack and via bluetooth headphones.
The SD 670 is a big No for many people.
K
Is it less powerful than the 835?
675
99% of people don't even know what SOC their phone has. The only way they judge performance is by amount of ram
They at least should have gone with 700 series I mean
Many people do see the SOC bro.
Why do all reviewers forget to mention that the 3a has a snapdragon 670 while the XL has a 710
not according to the google store specifications
They both have 670.
I read the reviews, watched a bunch of videos and what sold me was that this was the true successor to the Nexus 5X. As a proud member of 5X community, I am more than happy to give this one a shot. Nexus 5X was just like this back in the days, good camera, okay hardware, great software.
